The perp may have called her from down the road from her house in order to lure her out. "Hey Melissa, my car broke down about 1/4 mile from your house. Could you come out and get me?" If the person was a friend/acquaintance/student/boyfriend she would have thought nothing of it.

In one of the articles it mentioned that her family stated she had gone out to help someone with car trouble. If that is true, Melissa's phone records should reveal who that person/people are.

I totally agree...

Eric Berry, 44, of Lyndonville, a cousin by marriage whose daughter is Jenkins' goddaughter, described her as a beautiful, kind person whom he believes was coming to someone's aid when she disappeared.

"She left her house with the idea, I think, to try to help somebody, and that's as far as I'm going to go with that because I don't want to damage any investigation," he said.

for "figuring it out purposes": several links upstream state that her car was found running on the side of the road 1/4 mile from her house (child had been inside the car for 2-4 hours which would mean anywhere from 7:30pm-11:30 pm) and also that child witnessed his mother abducted and there was a struggle near the scene

I said yesterday that recent phone calls or texts should help if she was lured out of the house...should not take long for LE to know who may have called her, in fact they should know already...JMO

Police warned the tight knit town to remain vigilant, fearing the killer could strike again.

"I cannot disclose the details of how the body was found or the condition of the body, but this death is considered suspicious," Det. Sgt. Walter Smith said Monday. "We don't know if it's an isolated incident, we expect the public to use all diligence and vigilance while out and about."

Sounds like LE doesn't think this was domestic violence!

Maybe the police are just using extreme caution, but the above statement doesn't make this murder sound personal.

I wonder if the little boy can talk and convey who it was. My daughter could talk well at two and she would be able to say who it was, for example, if ist was 'Daddy.' Which makes me think it was someone who didn't think the boy could identify the perp.

I am leaning that it wasn't the dad and I'm not sure why. Lots of dads would not be able to take full time the child for many reasons so it doesn't surprise me the boy is with friends. Maybe they have an easier schedule etc, who knows.

If she went to help a friend, then they should know where the call came from. And if it was from a payphone, a location and maybe a camera.

It's all so sad. Scary that her car was found so close to her house. Makes me think she was being watched.

What if the killer left his car where hers was later found, walked up to her door and told her that he had broken down, or run out of gas, and asked for a ride back. Then, there would be no previous incoming phone call, and she would be in her car with the killer and the baby. He could have then forced her into his car and taken off. She may have even called or emailed someone else before leaving to say I am running out to help a friend with car trouble but I'll be right back....
Seems a bit contrived, but would explain many of the questions we have been having.

By saying they "cannot disclose details of how the body was found," that makes me think someone gave a tip leading to where the body was.

That does make some sense. For instance, if a motorist's car overheated and they were in the middle of nowhere, I wouldn't find it strange that they might approach the closest house and ask for a jug of water or something. And she may have just been being nice and offered to give the person a ride back to his vehicle. If she were talking to a friend on the phone at the time or had made plans to call a friend at a certain time, she may have either told the friend what was going on and that she'd call when she got back home or sent a text. That is indeed scary.

And it could have been a non-stranger, someone she knew in passing, so she felt safe enough to go, but not friends enough to mention his name to another friend. Maybe she was on the phone with the friend that reported her missing, she might have left it that she would call her back as soon as she was done, which would have made the warning flags go up after a short time that she didn't call.

How big is the town she is from? I know where I grew up, everyone knew who everyone else was even if we didn't "know" them.

Or someone needed a jumpstart.

This all really seems like a really likely scenario now. That could also explain why there is a policeman stationed at her house. There could be shoe prints or other trace evidence if someone did approach the house asking for help.

I do hope they can release some information or make an arrest very soon to put this community at ease. I can't imagine living in such a small close-knit community knowing a murderer is on the loose.

I wonder if the motorist with car trouble is a ruse LE has heard before and that is why they are telling residents to remain vigilant.

Just saw on the news it is indeed her; they will not comment on COD at this time.
