They always magically have fund$$$$ Galore when it comes payouts $$$$93 Million in the Braden, and Charlie Powell Case, 6 Million in the Shayne Abegg Case. Oh and $$$$$ funds for lawyers for DNA Donors. SMH.

Those are often different state funds. In most states there are budget items built in for lawsuits and settlements.

I can't see how a system so overburdened as to only be checking up on at risk kids every six months or so can possibly be well funded. Never mind that some foster homes can be worse than the situation the child was removed from and can go unchecked for years.

That doesn't sound like a well funded system to me. I agree that the judges tend to be the biggest wild card and even then can only do what the state laws allow them to do.

ETA: the limit of time for checking on children is not due to funding. It's the law.

Not only are they state funded, but they get federal funding also. If they would not leave children in foster care for 2 3 4 5 years and more, they would have much more funding. Also, if they would not pay for everything for these parents to help them get on track FOR YEARS, they would have more funding. The parents are often nonexistent until the case goes to termination of parental rights, then they pop back up and want to be parents. Then the whole thing starts all over again. And yes, this goes on for years.

Everyone has heard of horrible foster parents. And of course, there are bad people in all walks of life. I do not think this is the norm though and most foster parents really do it because they want to help these children. Fostering is not for the faint of heart. You cannot imagine the hell foster parents are put through.

A dear friend started fostering when they found out they couldn't have kids of their own. A few months in to fostering short term removals, a little fellow (he was five) came to them in a drug emergency removal situation. They adopted him two years later, he's a high school senior this year.

I know the foster system tries really hard to keep everyone on track. There just aren't enough people.

A lot of people foster with the intent of adopting. Especially if they cannot afford the typical adoption costs. It's a great way to do it.

They do have a huge turnover of social workers. Their job is not easy. There are some excellent social workers and some downright evil ones.

But the bottom line is the laws need to change. Stop making it all about the parents rights and reunification and start making it about the children's safety and welfare.

Agreed. The laws should be more about the childs right to health and safety.

I fear this beautiful child was sold for drug money. Praying I’m wrong. Either way, it won’t end well sorry to say. MOO

Does anyone know often it really happens that the caregivers sell a child? I see it suggested a lot in threads. But I'm not sure I'm aware of many cases where it was verified the child was actually sold.

Human/sex trafficking is HUGE in our Country. I don't think it's talked about nearly enough. I don't know the statistics on how many young children are sold by caregivers into trafficking though. I think it's a possibility, especially when someone is caught up in drugs and the underground world. Addicts will do just about anything for drugs.

I don't think trafficking happens nearly as often as it's suggested and there need to be patterns to suggest trafficking. One missing kid is unlikely to be taken and sold. You need multiple missings.

I can say that a few years back there was some re-homing difficult children going on in NW Arkansas. I think the Marshall Islander trafficking was in the same general area.

"An Update this evening in the disappearance and child welfare case involving a 5-year-old Oakville girl Oakley Carlson says that the parents Andrew Carlson and Jordan Bowers are currently being held on 150,000 bail for a case against them involving one of their other children a 6-year-old Sibling to Oakley.

Undersheriff Johansson says that detectives investigating the disappearance of Oakley Carlson discovered information that the parents Andrew Carlson and Jordan Bowers have not been providing medication prescribed to their six-year-old daughter as required by her doctor for approximately 15 months. The medication is necessary for her physical wellbeing and puts her at risk for physical impairment and could eventually result in death. "

It also states that the parents are now saying they saw Oakley last on Nov 30.

"The parents claim the last time they saw Oakley alive was November 30th. The parents have given no indication that Oakley is in the care of an adult and cannot account for her whereabouts or condition."

Well at least now they can keep them locked up until trial. So angry at the Judge, and CPS they failed these children. They had the power to stop this, but gave the parental units carte blanche. MOO

It certainly helps buy more time to search for Oakley too. Thankfully the other 3 children are safe. I'm so heartbroken over Oakley and I think we all know this isn't going to end well.

If these morons are in the habit of denying their children medication that is necessary for their health and well-being, that points to one possible explanation for poor Oakley’s disappearance…perhaps she, like her sibling, needed a medication administered on a regular basis, didn’t get it because her parents were monsters, and died as a result? Just hypothesizing.

Law enforcement are looking for anyone with information about her whereabouts or who may have seen Oakley Carlson alive since January 27th 2021.

“With all of the attention this investigation has gathered they have not received any information that Oakley has been seen alive since that date. The parents claim the last time they saw Oakley alive was November 30th. The parents have given no indication that Oakley is in the care of an adult and cannot account for her whereabouts or condition. Investigators believe Oakley would be unable to survive on her own for this length of time.”

THIS makes me even more curious about what the former foster parents heard and reported to CPS in January 2021. ALMOST A YEAR AGO!

Clearly CPS ignored it. There ought to be at least 5 years prison terms for anyone who failed these children. Up to and including the judge who signed their warrants. MOO

From this article "The Grays Harbor Sheriff’s Office said they only found out about Oakley two days ago when an associate of Bowers and Carlson called to say they had not seen Oakley in a while."

and

"FOX 13 also filed public disclosure requests, hoping to uncover how DCYF handled Oakley’s case."

And the fact that they had a house fire and didn't call 911 and this little girl hasn't been seen since around that time is very disturbing. Was the house fire an attempt to cover something up? Was she injured in the house fire? Were they high at the time and that's why they didn't call 911? Who doesn't call 911 when their house is on fire???
Were they cooking meth and it blew?

Obviously whatever they heard was enough of a concern that they contacted DCYF. And obviously DCYF did nothing. Shame on them!! They need to be held accountable for these things. Children are returned home all the time only to be abused further and end up back in the system. This is not an uncommon thing. The laws need to change to actually protect the children. Stop being so focused on reunification no matter what. It's the children who pay!!!
