Did judge drop hints at jury selection location?

"Once you start, there's going to be a feeding frenzy," said Perry. "I suspect it may generate some interest, even though there are not that many television stations."

Not that many television stations? That would rule out Florida's biggest cities, leaving us speculating about cities like Sarasota or Key West."

Quoting myself to add what Judge Perry said today about hotels begin VERY CHEAP at the location where they will select a Jury and that if they find a hotel room that is over $50 per night then they will have a problem and that as long as they leave by 8am that morning they will be fine.
Start at the 9:50 mark

You know what I don't understand? If all they can leave Orlando at 8am and be at the designated place to begin jury selection on time, then why do they need hotel/motel accommodations if it's that close? (Our report time for jury selection is 8:30am ~ I imagine that's pretty normal.) :waitasec:

Holy carp! Is he supposed to be telling people??

LOL! If the Judge has chosen the right place....The man doesn't know better. Thank God the whole world has not been glued to this since 2008 like some of us!

I have never been told in SC not to tell I had a summons...I suppose they could?

Less than $50/night? Isn't that like a 2 star hotel?

ETA: Wait, is that for the whole length of the trial or just for whatever is going on now? I'm confused.

Delray Beach is in Palm Beach County in south Florida and is about a 2.5-3 hour drive from Orlando

The location for Jury selection
The Jury will be brought to Orlando and sequestered...I believe Judge Perry already has the hotel booked where the jury will be staying..with all the media descending to Orlando and the summer vacation season starting up hotels and resorts will be busy

Here's the spreadsheet for the anticipated costs: http://www.clickorlando.com/download/2011/0317/27227343.pdf

It is confusing because it allocates $150 per night lodging for the five days of jury selection for 2 clerks at a total of $1,500.

So what's with the $50 business today? More :waitasec: .

ETA: Maybe this spreadsheet wasn't created and submitted by the court? I dunno.

Other clues that I heard is that the technology is different at this location, the Defense may want to check it out but ... there is construction although that may be finished by now and ... it is north.

Next thing ya know, JB will insist that he must know the location early so he can check the bed bug stats for the hotel.

I believe HHJP was referring to the courtroom that is going to be used in trial. The courthouse has been undergoing construction and they have updated some of the technology in that room.

I'd think the $50 was a lighthearted quip based on the indigency, tax payer dollars, tight budgets, etc to push their buttons. There are <$50 a night rooms in most towns but ....

If the hotel rooms will be around $50, then you can rule out Sarasota...Sarasota is a vacation destination so no cheap hotels. Not to mention, we pick up all the Tampa stations in addition to our own.

Respectively snipped. I believe the $50.00 dollars a day is if JB wants more people to attend than what is allocated. The main courthouse in Brevard County is right off Interstate 95, takes about an hour to get to Orlando from there, and the web had a hotel for $49.00 off the interstate. There aren't any independent news stations, though we get NBC, CBS, ABC, FOX and local 13. I think it may be in Brevard County. MOO.

Could it be possible that Judge Perry is getting ready to pull a "fast one" on the group?
Even though the change of venue/jury selection has been granted, could it be a possibility that he will try to "seat the jury" from Orlando to begin with??

No one in the Orlando area that gets summons for that time period would expect their call to duty would actually be for this case, all of the attorneys could be there within the hour time frame that Judge Perry told them again today, and as far as hotel rooms being under $50, they all would be able to stay at home.

IF the jury can't be agreed upon, THEN, take it someplace that he has already done his research on??

Thoughts???

I had mentioned Pasco County back when this topic first came up, now I am beginning to think it could be the place.

Anyone remember the Vampire Killer's trial back around mid-late 90's that happened in Leesburg/Lake County FL area? Lake County is adjacent to Orange County but due to the high profile and media coverage they went outside the county over to Pasco County to get a jury. That jury was then brought back to Lake County for the trial.

Pasco County is directly west of Orlando 3 counties over, above the Tampa area. County Seat there is Dade City. According to mapquest it is about 70 miles or 80 mins away from downtown Orlando. Kind of rural area with no local media that I could find in the whole county. Must get their news out of the Tampa area.

Not a lot of hotels to choose from in the area but they are rather cheap.....$44-$109

Wow, sounds like a logical contender to me.
