WI - ICE seeks help to ID youth in photos #2 - Identified

Would somebody mind looking at "Joseph Lee Johnson" missing since 2011 from Colfax, Wisconsin? Right time, right place, right age; coloring, nose, and ears seem similar. I think if the missing child cut his hair and lost a few pounds he might look very much like the boy in the ICE photo. But I could be too hopeful and way off.

That does look like him. More so than the Taylor boy IMO, but the people who have seen the still photos would be better able to judge.

Okay, I checked out the international database using the parameters I discussed above and didn't come upon anything that really jumped out at me. There was one young boy who went missing from New Mexico in 2000. Similar nose and mouth, but the eyes aren't a match and I don't think they'd change drastically within a decade.

I saw him as well, and I agree that their look is somewhat similar. There was discussion earlier on regarding the video that the stills from LE came from that indicated the video originated back in 2010. That information is unsubstantiated, but was posted here by someone who knew of it from another forum as well as posted by a commenter on another site. Again, all of that is completely unsubstantiated.

1) What do the two basements have in common, other than the fact that they are both basements and both have a jack post, even though... the photos of the basements do not look alike?

2) Why do we think that BECAUSE the video is from 2010 and TD went missing in 2010 that is some kind of stunning piece of evidence that it may be him?
If that were true, that TD went missing at the very time the video was made... they would look IDENTICAL.

I think some people (myself included) have moved away from believing this boy to be TD or anyone associated with TD.

The two basements aren't really being explored any further for similarities because of this. That was just a tangent people were teasing out for a while, to see if it stuck, and it didn't. JMO.

He looks quite similar to me -- the chin and lips are a better fit than TD's were. But, it's so hard to tell without seeing the hairline and I haven't found other pics of him yet. Also, it would just boggle my freakin' mind if LE hadn't already exhausted all missing persons databases before reaching out to the public.

I truly believe this boy is from the foster care system, was adopted, or lives with his family of origin and has been pulled into some kind of illicit activity through those means -- not through being kidnapped or as an endangered runaway. Again, JMO.

Maybe this sounds far-fetched, but I think it's possible:

Maybe LE did search the missing databases, find a few kids who could be a match for the boy in the video, but are asking for the public's help because they haven't been able to definitively rule out anyone who has already been reported missing (Taylor, Adrian Dunne, etc).

Not if it was a legal adoption.

I think that ICE is getting involved because it involves child *advertiser censored*. This is one of the types of investigations they get involved in, whether or not it involves immigration or illegal aliens. They'd definitely get involved if this video was originally found on a computer overseas. They've done this in the past. Danish police found a video on someone's computer in Denmark last year. They traced it back to the US and turned the investigation over to ICE, who then found the guy who made the video.

My long-winded point is: ICE gets involved in child *advertiser censored* investigations regardless of whether or not immigration is a factor.

...I've been a lurker for quite a few years....

I'm part of the Virginia Tech community, I may have posted about that at least once, not sure....there have been a few incidents at VT that have been discussed here, and I was on campus when they all happened, and I've seen the effect that they've had on folks I know (I feel fortunate not to have been directly affected)

In spite of that, as many horrible stories as are posted here and across the internet in general on a daily basis, I have never been so disturbed by any story over the past years than this one...I hesitantly but eventually viewed the 'screenshots' link...(wishing I hadn't,....). I haven't read anymore of the thread since I viewed the link a few hours ago, and don't know if I'll be back anytime soon.

However, I've seen the help that Websleuthers have provided in other cases...please, PLEASE work together to find this little girl and help her....(and the youth involved, if he has also been a victim...whatever the case, and whatever abuse he may have suffered, he needs to monitored for the rest of his life, that's up for specialists to decide.....)

Sleuth, if you found this boy, thank you. ETA: If you can or if you are told, please let us know.

The automated message before you talk to the agent says they won't even be able to give you a timeframe of how long it will take them to follow up, something to that effect.

And the agent himself said they can't/don't give the informants any information as to how the tip or investigation plays out.

Which I think is pretty standard.

This might be a long shot, but on the other pictures, several shots of his mouth make it appear like he might have braces on his teeth. I recently got braces and my upper lip is different in photos. I wish there was a way to get this picture out to all orthodontists in the area. When you go in for your first visit, they take several pictures of your face and profile for their records.

I know that braces make one self conscious sometimes, and that the people viewing the webcam might have remarked or suggested that he not show the braces.

So, this may be a stupid question but, do braces make one likely to keep their mouth closed for other reasons?

(I had thought that they tended to keep their mouth open more because the braces hurt the lips more when the mouth is closed but I've never actually had braces so I don't know.)

Any thoughts on physical reasons one with braces might intentionally keep their mouth closed ?

I suffered through three years of braces, and it was not at all comfortable to keep my mouth closed, especially right after I would get a new wire and brace-tightening each month.

I can't decide if this boy looks emotionless or just scared. He might be keeping his mouth closed because he's clenching his jaw due to tension or fear. He also might not have braces, which might explain why his mouth is closed.
