If it did happen, then don't blame the cop for answering that way. The protesters are so rude when they get in their faces and yell at them. They have been screaming 'EFF the Police ' for months now. And they always scream 'whats your name officer' as a way to report them for whatever claim they make at the time. So one officer had enough and mouthed off? I am not surprised at all. And the protesters were so angry and outraged? After everything they have screamed, cursed, ranted at these cops for months. Every day and night for MONTHS! And one cop replies in kind and the crowd is outraged?

They are allowed to berate and curse and threaten, night after night. No one says a thing about it other than its their civil right. The cop answers in the same manner and it is suddenly a federal case?

I was watching the live feed and I never heard or saw the cop say anything. I just heard the one guy start yelling at the cop and accusing him of saying that.

You are spot on Katy.
IMO

OMGaw.... did I see that correctly?

The gunman walked over to the cop and drew his gun????

Yes, initially he turned his back on the officer and took a few steps away from the officer, then he turned around, took a step or two forward while drawing the gun.

He also said the 9 mm gun found on the suspect had five rounds in the magazine and one round in the chamber. He said the gun's serial number had been filed off.

Belmar declined to release the victim's name at the news conference but said he had a criminal record, with charges including three assaults, armed robbery, armed criminal action and multiple uses of weapons since he was 17.

[FONT=proxima_nova_rgregular]He took pains to say that the shooting could not be compared to the police killing of Michael Brown in Ferguson or to the chokehold death of Eric Garner in New York. The mayor, who is black, pointed out that the Berkeley police department is majority-black.

[FONT=proxima_nova_rgregular]He promised a thorough investigation but said that the video showed it was not a police officer going off "half-cocked."

[FONT=proxima_nova_rgregular]The protest thinned by daybreak, and Belmar told an early morning news conference that four people had been arrested. He said that bricks and what were believed to be fireworks were thrown at officers, but he said police did not use tear gas.

[FONT=proxima_nova_rgregular]One officer was being treated in a hospital emergency room for injuries to his lower leg sustained while he ran away, Belmar said, and another was treated at the hospital after sustaining injuries to his face from a brick.

BBM

If that is true it makes me so angry. The crowd was so rude and aggressive and threatening towards the cops. Screaming about them ' MURDERING BLACK CHILDREN' etc etc. And then we find out this 'child' had been playing with guns and doing armed robberies for years.

Even the way the mother said ' the cops were messing with him and so he tried to run away, but they shot him..." made me think 'what? '

So the way society is set up now, an armed suspect points his gun at a cop, is shot, and we have to expect a full riot each time? Bricks thrown at cops heads, fireworks thrown at gas pumps? smh

Please stick to the topic. Leave politics and the president out of the thread.

Maybe they should have. :snooty: This is ridiculous.

Especially if it becomes a political/"sociological" discussion with virtually no attention to the details of the case, like the Mike Brown thread and that of the two slain Bronx LEOs.

I think with the NYC LEO's it's newer and a different kind of situation so there will be less evidence/witnesses etc. than there was in the Brown case because both killer and victims are dead, so there will be no grand jury/trial, etc. But there was a monumental amount of factual information on the Brown threads and long intense discussions about specifically the facts and evidence of that particular case. There were more abstract sociological debates as well, but people who were posting regularly on that thread came to know that case inside and out.

Can anyone provide a link to any video of an officer telling someone "my name is officer go-f****-yourself"

I wish LE would start using teargas everywhere and every time these mobs start this crap. If they don't disperse after being ordered to do so, I have no problem with LE doing what they can to force them to disperse. This insanity must end.

I was actually proud of LE in L.A. when the protesters got unruly. When they didn't stay where they were allowed to protest, and were making threats to LE and blocking traffic, a few buses were brought in and arrests were made in mass. It seemed to deescalate rather quickly at that point.

I'm glad that I didn't stay up last night, watching the livestream of this tragedy. It's all getting to be too much.

The theme of this season is "peace on earth, good will toward men", but there are individuals, organizations, and forces in this world who do not want peace, who delight in unrest. I feel a sadness for the turmoil of this present age, but I have hope of a brighter future.

The ACLU went to court and prevented LE from using tear gas on the marchers in St Louis. IIRC

I didn't hear the officer say anything! He was an older officer and gestured that he said nothing, then the protesters started saying he could get fired etc... It was sickening and it makes me feel so bad for those LEO.

Here is just that portion, runs about 1 minute: http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/56842484/highlight/587768
thank you soooo much - gotta scrub everything clean of all this language.

i can't imagine what's going thru their minds = wonder what l/e training tells them to do in these situations?
