CM just asked her what books she reads. SHE said novels. HE said "Mystery Novels, ok"

I laughed out loud when JB said that ICA wanted to interview the potential jurors.

Is it normal practice for defendant to interview potential jurors????

I have never heard of this before. If it's not normal practice, how DARE her. WHO does she think she is?

Unfortunately, he has a legal point. Even AZLawyer discussed it in the legal threads that this mkay become an appeals issue.

USUALLY, the attorneys are given the chance to question the entire pool of PT's.
Then at that point, they take turns making their challenges. When they run out of strikes then the 'first' 12 are sworn in.

But JP is taking that option away from them by wanting to swear in the first 12 now, and then going on to the alternates. That is really kind of unfair to both sides, but mostly the defense since they are such underdogs here.

I wonder what the state didn't like about her?

How many jurors are left in the pool? How many strikes are left? I am so confused...

Before long we are going to hear HHJP say..."before you came to court last year...."

  • #1,370
Has anyone of the pj's mentioned the 31 days yet?

With all due respect, this is not only about the defendant's right to a fair trial. HHJP is making sure her due process rights are being protected per the U.S. Constitution. HOWEVER, most importantly this is about seeking justice for a murdered 2 1/2 year old defenseless child.

It is called the justice system for a reason.

Thanks is just not enough!

I believe the defense has 2 left and the state has 4.. I've lost track of how many are left.

I sincerely hope not.

With respect to Caylee (and I would be the last person to dispute that her death is nothing less then terrible), ICA is entitled to a fair trial (I would churn out the usual thing about a trial not being about the victim per se but to determine whether or not that the State has proved the Defendant is Guilty of the crime charged.

Unfortunately, as emotional as we all can be about Caylee (and she was an adorable child) the cold, hard truth is that Caylee's cuteness, her pretty face, her life, the way she would make those around her smile is not at all relevant to the guilt of ICA or anything to do with her death.

For the Penalty phase, however, that could well be relevant.

Totally concur, uklaw. But have to say with all the leniency the court has given toward the DT and the time and cost incurred in this process, there is no doubt in my mind this girl is getting the fairest trial she can humanly get. MOO

This is the LAST juror for the day. And I think the last Juror period, but I could be wrong.

I wonder what the state didn't like about her?

I wondered that too... maybe her eagerness to be on this jury suggests to them she has an agenda?

17 some left to question

2 strikes for the defense
4 for the state

So now Friday is the earliest they can start? If they get 12 and a few alternates by end of day tomorrow? (I am kind of rooting for Monday, personally, have to take a flight Friday afternoon...) :(
