GUILTY AR - Dr. Randeep & Sangeeta Mann for car bombing, West Memphis, 2009

  • #81
It sounds like someone made a bomb built into the tire, which was triggered to go off when the doctor moved the tire. It's some kind of homemade bomb. Whoever did it probably intended to kill the doctor and didn't expect him to survive. They either had the bomb rigged up to the car engine (when turned on) or tamped it in that direction..

Mornin' MeoW333:D

That leads me to believe this might be a more sophisticated perp than your average joe, what do you think?

This is what I was trying to say...I'm not very clear sometimes when I communicate:)

"The Profile of a Bomber
In case anyone wants to include a bomber in their stories (and because I happened to find this information) here is Douglas's profile of a bomber:

Wants attention. It's an attention seeking way of doing a crime. Therefore he is likely to want to follow the press coverage of the bomb, so can perhaps be manipulated if you use the press yourself.
Intelligent. If you're an arsonist you just need to know how to use a match. To use a bomb you have to be brighter and know how to make one.
Somewhat courageous - the bomb could blow up in your face.
If there is a common denominator between victims then you can study that.
Not very sociable
Probably liked tinkering with devices when young. Maybe tried some practice bombs in the backyard. Can ask the public for information on this - though FBI not very willing to go public with such things.
Not insane. Hand-making bombs requires logical focus and hours of work
Like any killer, wants power and domination."

LoL Mornin' Kat :)
I agree with the profile of the bomb maker, he would have had to make prior bombs to test them and make sure he made it right or it wouldn't work. The question is if he made them, and tested them, he'd have to do that somewhere extremely rural so as not to draw attention to himself. He'd also have to be intelligent enough not to blow himself up in the process. Once the FBI ATF figures out what was in the components of the bomb i guess we'll know. It seems the force of the bomb was directed towards the engine, and the doctor being on the other side of the tire and engine when moving the tire; well that possibly saved his life.. So whoever put the bomb there put it facing away from where the doctor would be to remove it. Maybe they didn't realize they did that?..

Arkansas State Medical Board

Check out the Board Action and License Adjustments July 4, 2008 - October 15, 2008.

Are the board's actions open for the public? i.e. the cases?

My guess is that someone will be apprehended shortly. I'm betting this is fairly obvious.

Wrinks

I feel the same.

Dr. Trent Pierce is in stable condition at The Med hospital in Memphis, Dr. Joseph Beck told the members of the state Medical Board this morning. The board is holding its regular bi-monthly meeting today and tomorrow. Pierce is the chairman of the board.

FBI and ATF agents are taking members out of the meeting today one by one for interviews.

I really don't think we're looking at a disgruntled doctor who targeted him because of his work with the medical board. Why would the perp target ONE doctor on the board? How could he be assured that there was a need for a tie-breaking vote? It would seem to me that if someone wanted to affect a case before the board, he'd target more physicians - or at least one that normally votes.

If it is someone who has ties in some way to the board, at least that means whomever did this, isn't just targeting people randomly.

Maybe they should look at docs who have a military background and would tend to be more familiar with EIDs.

Also, there are a number of physicians with mid eastern ties practicing in the midwest. Families could come into play.

Good call on the ordnance training SeriouslySearching.

I agree that it could have been random SoobsinMI, that it is a possibility.

But then I consider who the victim was, and if he was the intended victim, I tend to think it must either be something very personal or related to his work in some way.

I think the type of explosive used is important. Not just that it was a tire bomb, but did any component of the bomb require home hand made parts?

Did someone just take a gander at an internet website, come up with a way to construct a bomb...kind of like wikihow 1-2-3 easy steps website, and throw together a few items needed, or were the parts created and designed by the bomber?

Even if it was a hastily constructed bomb some thought went into the making of this bomb, where to place the bomb and the consequences of the bomb detonating. Sounds like there may have been a lot of fantasizing about this crime. Dunno.

I wonder how common it is for spare tires to be used in Iraq as EIDs? It would seem to me to be something they would use for that purpose.

Making any bomb would take planning and time. Coming up with the way to deliver it without the victim being aware would be the easiest part, imo.

I don't know. I will ask my Husband this evening when he comes home from work. He did one tour for 13 months and the last tour was 15 months. He might have an idea.

Thanks, Kat! It may not have anything to do with this case, but you never know.

Thanks, Suzi! I'll be watching. (Hope they'll name a suspect.)

Sorry,haven't seen the presser.

Another article:

Snips from the article

"Federal agents investigating a car bombing that critically injured a state medical board official focused Thursday on a tire the victim reportedly was trying to move from his driveway just before the blast..."

This is the second time I've seen it stated that there was a spare tire lying in his driveway and he was attempting to move it.

"Scott Ferguson, a West Memphis doctor and family friend, said Pierce's family told him a tire had been left in the way of Pierce's hybrid Lexus sport-utility vehicle Wednesday. Ferguson said Pierce apparently leaned down to move the tire out of the way just before the explosion..."

"Banks, the ATF agent, said residue and remains from the bomb had been sent to the agency's laboratory in Atlanta. Banks described the bomb as homemade, not manufactured dynamite or a military-style explosive."

"The agent said bombs have certain characteristics that make them traceable, much like ballistics tests on bullets. "The signature of the device is pretty much identified by the maker," Banks said. "That's our job — to put it back together and find out who did it."

Homemade bomb, no dynamite, or military style explosive (if the bomb maker were a had prior ordnance training, I would think that it would show in the makings of the bomb) Still doesn't tell us how sophisticated this bombmaker is though. Hmm, wonder if the spare tire held the bomb?
