This is an Arkansas blog that has a thread on the bombing. Also, lots of updates coming through Twitter.

Thanks! Are the twitter posts at that link as well? Tech dummie here. The below is from the above link:

It also quotes former legislator Scott Ferguson, a family friend and neighbor about circumstances this morning. Pierce was apparently moving to remove a tire in front of his SUV when it exploded.

This poor man...

UPDATE ON DR. PIERCE'S CONDITION: A close family friend told Eyewitness News Wednesday evening that the doctors at the hospital were taking a "team" approach to treating Dr. Pierce. He was in surgery most of the day and team by team, the doctors went in to treat the most critical injuries. The first thing they removed was the shrapnel in the abdomen. They were able to stitch him up and moved on to his face. Dr. Pierce has severe burns on his face. They moved to his damaged eyes. Surgeons were able to work on both eyes, but don't believe they were able to save his left eye. They believe he will see out of his right eye again. Wednesday evening, specialists moved to the metal in his throat. They were trying to remove it. Dr. Pierce also has a broken wrist and leg. Doctors said once he is stablized, he may be transported to a burn treatment center in Ohio. They say he will probably need plastic surgery on his face for the burns.

Let me go to my Twitter and get some addresses for local news outlets. Also, not sure if it was mentioned, but Scott Ferguson is a physician, also.

Awww, that poor, poor man!! I cannot imagine the pain he has to endure at the moment and for such a long time to come. Bless his heart!

A car tire bomb?! WTH? I thought it was interesting when they intially came out this was a "terrorist act". Could they be right?

I don't know this has anything to do with the Board meeting. This was personal, but disciplinary actions from a medical board usually don't amount to much, imo. Unless the Doctor in question did something really horrible, they tend to lean towards lesser actions taken against other Docs. That being said...have there been any Docs losing their license due to this board?

In the video I linked above, the reporter says Dr Pierce's wife could also have been the target because they always carpooled together. IMO, she wasn't the target. I'm going to guess that they were taking seperate cars today because he was going to Little Rock and she was going to his practice where she also works. This tells me it's someone who knew their schedules.

The below is from Kat's link. This guy has lost his house and everything. I wonder if his case was what today's meeting was about?

(snip)
Dr. Jay Clarence Arendall has two months to notify the board he’s scheduled an evaluation at a treatment facility for sexual deviants. If the board doesn’t hear from him by its next scheduled meeting in February, board members will move forward with his case, board attorney Bill Trice said.

SS, I'm bumping this post up because this doc was supposed to provide info to the board in February. The board only meets once a month, so it sounds like his case was coming up today. Google him and you'll find all kinds of stuff that'll make you want to shower in bleach.

About the lawsuit...

Appelants family line:

I suppose there could be some family members upset, but my guess is that this has far more to do with something on the agenda for the board.

However... I'm thinking of a few things in the articles... One of those being disciplined was angry. Dr. Pierce generally doesn't vote, but he is the tie breaker. So... What case was on the agenda that might have needed a tie breakers vote, and do we have any information on which way Dr. Pierce might have leaned in a vote.

Hmm... What is on the agenda for Thurs/Friday

Check out the Board Action and License Adjustments July 4, 2008 - October 15, 2008.

Are the board's actions open for the public? i.e. the cases?

My guess is that someone will be apprehended shortly. I'm betting this is fairly obvious.

If Dr Pierce was going to break a tie to suspend a doctor's license who had been dealing narcotics, would it be possible a doctor he was going to tie break to suspend told a buyer who would go to extreme lengths to keep their drug connection?

Sounds like it has something to do with the Board meeting. I hope they do figure out who did this and I hope the other doctors on the Board are watching their backs.

This morning on headline news they had a blurb about the Dr.'s bomb this morning and say that they are leaning towards it being "possibly" associated with his job on the medical board. I'll go see if it is in print so I can link.

Wrinkles, I looked at the family line genealogy, can you give us your train of thought on that because I was lost :)

Tire bomb? I've never heard of one of those. Anyone else have?

I also heard on the news this morning that the victim lost an eye and has severe burns, and will need plastic surgery for his face later on, I pray that he survives and his family finds comfort to carry on in the light of this horrible attack.

It sounds like someone made a bomb built into the tire, which was triggered to go off when the doctor moved the tire. It's some kind of homemade bomb. Whoever did it probably intended to kill the doctor and didn't expect him to survive. They either had the bomb rigged up to the car engine (when turned on) or tamped it in that direction..
