Thanks Eloise!! That was one of my earlier thoughts! In jail already and someone who was in possession of their belongings decided to move the suitcase as far away as possible!

There are a few state border quarantine stations in Australia. One of which is in South Australia. They are mobile quarantine stations and can operate anywhere within the state. They will stop you, check your car, caravan, motor home, luggage, etc.

Yes there are, but they are pretty lackadaisical about it all .. As in strolling up to your window asking you if you've got any fruit, then waving you straight on when you say no, even if you have a bag of bananas on your passenger seat. I can't remember ever having any of them actually check the car or boot, let alone luggage.

So the missing persons report was made in September 2009, when they were both still alive and well. Perhaps it's true about Karlie not wanting family contact?

I doubt that they were both still alive in September 2009. It's been reported that Khandalyce was born in 2006 and was aged two when she died. That would take her time of death up to the end of 2008.

If thats the case, something certainly decomposed amongst those clothes. I say from experience as a ex-food hider/hoarder.

What if she was stored in the clothes as a big bundle wrapped in the quilt and he pulled it out as one piece and put the whole lot in the suitcase?

Good news at least they have a lead. So maybe the suitcase man if involved was about to be arrested or sent to jail and was on bail so got rid of suitcase. Or a family member or aquaintance moved it after arrest. IMO it's more likely that it was a recent arrest and the suspect was being investigated regarding other crimes so he moved the evidence. There has been a lot of arrests over the past 6 months due to pedophile links etc. But I realise there is nothing to suggest sex crimes as yet so obviously that's just a thought.

Yes I was wrong a couple of posts after that I realized I had the years mixed up.

I have almost read everything but have a question that kept me awake last night. Why did Karlie choose to travel? it must have been something important because It is not easy to be on the road with a small child. Anyone read anything about that, I haven´t.

I agree. It's not unheard of though for a young mum to perhaps leave to seek another/better life after they have a child. Maybe troubles at home but maybe heard of opportunities to make more money etc in other states etc. Alice Springs does not have a bustling economy. Perhaps she had a friend elsewhere who said there was more work or money etc. maybe family in other states. Or maybe a boyfriend. I guess the police or family will have a better idea.

The only thing that has been reported is that after the birth of Khandalyce, Karlie wasn't doing too well and decided to travel in search of employment.

My thoughts have always been that the person that placed the suitcase there wasn't the killer but someone close as in a family member who no longer wanted to keep this a secret and placed the suitcase there in the hope they would be caught. What baffles me is why keep her all these years?

Off topic - I certainly do. They went through everything! Should have eaten the fruit they confiscated before I got to the border!

It was stated Karlie left Alice Springs looking for work in Adelaide.

Sorry I keep posting stuff just its all too sad. This article says a Facebook page was set up to find them in 2010 so their mother/grandmother could see them again before she passed. Their mother/grandmother clearly thought she was just elsewhere and died wanting to see them one last time. So heartbreaking. Hope they are all together now.

Yes maybe. But that what makes me think the suspect placed it there as why would someone they keep her all these years. Unless they were related and all family have been cleared.

Sorry by family member I meant a family member of the killer not the victims.
