Crickey you were lucky. I'm on the SA data base for a bendy old carrot and a couple of garlic cloves I'd forgotten I had in the fridge! Guess it depends who you get. Then the guy on the WA border checked my coleslaw had enough dressing on it or that would have been confiscated too!
Yes there are, but they are pretty lackadaisical about it all .. As in strolling up to your window asking you if you've got any fruit, then waving you straight on when you say no, even if you have a bag of bananas on your passenger seat. I can't remember ever having any of them actually check the car or boot, let alone luggage.

Mr Marple, L2L's link just above says the case seems to have been 10m in from the road and then dragged later closer to the road

Thanks Theodora, that's what I thought. Perhaps somebody found it, saw what was in it, but didn't want to get involved so dragged it closer to the road so it would be found and reported to the police?

Sure, but also 5 year apart?
Has anyone specifically said it hasn't been there for 5 years? I know some say the bones were put into the bag after a time but was it months or years? I just always had a feeling the suitcase was stuffed under the shrubs and well covered until someone dragged it out after finding it randomly. They also thought karlie had been where she was placed under the log for longer than she was. Not wanting to sound rude at all just getting thoughts out :)

A few thoughts:

I didn't follow the threads discussing Karlie's murder. Can anyone comment on whether she was sexually assaulted? In my view there's a difference between a sexually motivated murder and a murder conducted by someone known to the victims involving assault but no sexual component.

With the suspect currently AWAITING SENTENCING he is obviously recently convicted of an offence. Any thoughts on any known criminals that may fit this bill? Also I believe he is in NSW so has clearly committed crime there. Does this mean he's local to NSW now?

Karlies remains were skeletal when found.

Does anyone have the link to the article about the baby girl Cassandra who was living in Wynarka at some stage before she sadly died? I'm after the information about the apparent dad and daughter living in a caravan off the grid near Wynarka who suddenly disappeared, just wondering if it mentioned which year locals had seen the pair.

The suitcase was probably kept somewhere simply to hide the evidence then when incarcerated he freaked out and got a mate to get rid of it and the mate did an awful job? That's the simplest explanation I can think of.

A mate or an elderly gentleman like his father maybe!

MOO!!

I'm finding this a lot harder than I thought I would. Belanglo angel was my first missing/unidentified person case I ever started on and literally have spent hours and hours trying to figure out who she was :( I helped a person on the fb page someone had made to help identify her at one point trying to do different hair colours to see if someone might recognise her that way. With the old laptop I had it took a long time to do lol. To me she is angel. I'm happy she has her name back but I feel a motherly protectiveness over her so will just read but not comment from now on. Might sound stupid but I think it's affected me deeply. I feel bad that all this time she had been alone without her little girl. :(

What keeps going through my head is the differences of the 2 murders.

Mother was killed and body unceremoniously dumped behind a fallen log in a forest.
The child was killed and yet her body was kept, decaying somewhere, not buried or out in the sun, according to forensics.
The suitcase of the child's belongings was also kept for many years.
Then the child's bones were place into the suitcase and the suitcase was dumped.

I'm wondering if the scenario might be that Karlie was befriended by a childless woman or a couple, who thought they would be better parents than Karlie was.
(Not judging her parenting at all, but simply setting the possible mindset of the killer(s)).

Possibly Karlie was killed first with the intention of keeping her daughter.
Then at some later date, the child was killed.

This would explain an emotional attachment to the remains and belongings of the child but no emotional attachment to the mother.
It would explain why the child's possessions were kept and cherished, along with her bones.

Why the suitcase was eventually dumped at Wynarka though is another question entirely. Yet it still seems whoever did the dumping could not bring themselves to separate the bones from the possessions..

To me the BBM (bolded by me) means that the child was killed first in a voilent outburst (not planned) by a male who had control over Karlie and her child. The child was quickly hidden very close to where she was killed. Then Karlie was taken to Belanglo State Forest and voilently killed.

Then the killer returned to where 'they' were living and kept the child hidden.
Making sure Khandalyce couldn't be found and probably hoping Karlie WOULD be found and identified and blamed on Milat.

I do not think that the way Khandalyce's body was kept had anything to do with 'loving' but with making sure nobody would be able to access her body.

There is no way this mother would accept her child being beaten to death en shut up about it, let alone being able to go on with her life and shut up about it.

So to me it was definately the child who died first. And very close in/around Wynarka.
And then the mother deliberately left behind in Milat's territory.

The person who left the suitcase at the roadside IMO is not the killer. But someone who knows what happened, couldn't speak up and wanted closure. And/or real estate/property change that meant the body had to move.

Does anyone else think this case is as good as solved?

Recent article of the suspect in jail already mentions the word PAIR ....So they know who she was with... The article is about a suspect!!.... I wouldn't expect them to reporting of mother and child as the "Pair"...this is a couple... This dogs days are numbered!!!

http://www.news.com.au/national/south-australia/wynarka-murder-male-suspect-identified/story-fnii5yv4-1227579117725

I only see the word PAIR relating to the victims.

Do you think that is normal terminology for mother and child from a reporters perspective??....the article specifically is about a suspect ....???

ETA: You could be right found.....I'm just not feeling it...that's all....

Unless I'm stupid....which I don't think I am (debatable) that's the way I read it....

The pair meaning the 2 victims. It says the pair identified.

Although I do think you are right that the case is near solved.

Yeah may have to go out on a ledge here.....all the news reports....the wording...I think they know she was travelling with someone else..

Heck I believe she had hooked up with someone prior to leaving Alice Springs....and they left as a couple together...

A controlling abuser...worked his magic... as most abusers do...Alienate the person from their friends and family..

Regardless.....feeling confident they have the guy in their sights....
