Questioning returns to Erin's relationship with her in-laws

The trial is resuming after the break.

Mr Mandy says he wants to return to Erin’s relationship with her in-laws.
He said Simon gave evidence that she sent an aggressive message to the Patterson group chat.
Erin says she remembered the exchange and that he was upset with her because their son was tired on weekends.
“(He) suggested that it was due to my poor parenting, and I was hurt by that,” she says.
Mr Mandy is taking Erin to communication records between Erin and the Pattersons between April 23 and July 28.
Erin says she was not rude or upset in any of the messages to her in-laws during that period.
She says the tone of the messages was the same tone she used earlier in their relationship.

Mr Mandy spends time taking Erin through messages in the Patterson group chat.
He asks Erin how her children’s relationship was with their grandparents.
She says they were “very close”, particularly her son and Don.
“They were like two minds separated by 50 years,” she says, fighting back tears.
“(My son) just loved him.”

She says the factory reset on 5 August 2023 was because she “panicked” and didn’t want detectives to see photos in the Google app of mushrooms and the dehydrator.

Regarding the factory reset on 6 August 2023, Patterson said after the police search she wondered if she could login to her Google account and see where the seized devices were. She said she wondered if police were “silly enough to leave it connected to the internet”.

“I hit factory reset to see what happened,” she says.

OOHHH wow, she's feeling a bit over confident now, saying ^^^ this stuff. Calling the cops silly etc.

She is poking the bear now. I bet the prosecution cannot wait to get their time with her.
Exactly. Your grandiose delusions are showing, Erin!

Did she mean one mind?
That statement doesn't make sense.

Photos of devices in Erin's home shown to court

By Joseph Dunstan

Mr Mandy is leading the court to several photos taken in Erin Patterson's Leongatha house during a police search on August 5, 2023.

She identifies various devices, including two Acer laptops.

Erin also identifies a "very old" Lenovo ThinkPad laptop that was in a tub in the garage among the photos.

Are they trying to blame the police for not finding/taking all the technology in the house?!

Court adjourned

By Joseph Dunstan and Judd Boaz

Mr Mandy indicates the defence doesn't have "long to go" with their examination of Erin Patterson.

He says they will likely finish their questioning of Erin tomorrow morning.

That's where the court is adjourned and today's hearing comes to an end.

Mandy asks Patterson about her relationship with her in-laws who died after the beef wellington lunch.

She asks his client about evidence Simon gave that she sent an “inflammatory” message in a group chat with his parents in 2023. Simon said this was in reference to him raising that their son was always tired when he stayed with him, the court hears.

She says Simon suggested their son was tired because of her “poor parenting” and she was “hurt” by that.

Patterson says she understood she sent the message to Simon and not in a group chat.

Mandy shows the court messages between Patterson and her in-laws from 2022, including discussions about Don tutoring her son.

She agrees this tone was indicative of how she spoke to her in-laws at the time.

Patterson says she had a “really good” relationship with Don and Gail in 2022.

What more is there for him to ask her? It's like he's taken us through the moment she was born.

Her recipe for mushroom carbonara?

By the way she is throwing so much at Simon, I would say the (alleged) motive could be to hurt Simon for all of the hurt that he has apparently caused her.

imo

I think we need more bowel movement testimony - especially with CCTV footage.

She absolutely blames him for everything, IMO. Everything is his fault. I wouldn't actually be surprised if she tried to frame him, either. I know that was her close friends narratives in the weeks after the lunch (before she was charged). Then they all pulled way back.

I have ADHD, neurodivergent people are more likely to be victims of violence than anything else. There's gotta be something more
I didn't mean that as any form of criticism at all. A friend of mine (who has high functioning Aspergers) and I discussing the case today and I just suggested that she may have something like Aspergers. Without a shadow of a doubt, she has more going on, but considering a few things about her, including changing jobs a lot, I just considered it was a possibility. It certainly wouldn't contribute to her committing murder, even if she was. There are much more trouble things going on there...

Patterson’s voice is trembling and she fights back tears.

Oh absolutely. Especially because he has to survive without them. The woman who poisoned Mary Yoder did it for that reason- to get back at her son for breaking up with her.

As infuriating as it is to read her nonsense, thanks to those who post updates!

She's guilty as sin IMO.

Erin says she had to stop during trip

By Joseph Dunstan

Erin says both of the children were in the car on the way to the flying lesson.

She says about 30 minutes in, she felt she needed to use the toilet, so they pulled over at a stretch where there was some bushland.

"I went off into the bush and went to the toilet ... I had diarrhoea," she says.

"I cleaned myself up a bit with tissues and put them in a dog poo bag ... and we hit the road again."

During a stop at the BP Caldermeade, Ms Patterson says she put the dog poo bag containing tissues she'd used while toileting in the bin.

She says she bought food for her children, but tells the court she bought nothing for herself.
BUT, didn't the son state, when questioned by the Police, that she did not stop!!!
