Those texts from Gail and Don are so sad. They only wanted to do right by Simon and the kids and seem like lovely and genuine people.

Wow … what an utterly bizarre creature she really is.
Has anyone ever said what she was like as a child? I'd be fascinated to know.
She is a psychologists dream.

Terrible, painful, protracted deaths.

This is the aspect that has been on my mind a lot.
[And often got lost in 'The EP Show' that the accused tried to distract the trial into.]

These were violent murders. Hopefully it will be given due weight in the next, sentencing, phase.
MOO

edited to add:
and coldblooded
And she just sat across the table from them, watching them consume the deadly poison she had served them, knowing what a horrendous, unspeakable death awaited those sweet, elderly people.
Evil. Just evil.

And she let them pray for her.

I wonder if her children will continue to visit her in prison? They may have believed it was accidental up until now...

I think it's very hard to say. For them this isn't a rational exercise, this is their mum and as long as she protests strongly then they might take that because it's preferable to the alternative.

Jimmy Savile's lifelong assistant still loudly proclaims his innocence as far as I'm aware.

I think she just went in and right back out.

Plenty of time to bin something.

The problem for EP was that what she was supposedly binning would require handwashing. Especially if you're then going over to look at food you eat with your hands.

It's really chilling.

That “separated” started it all.

I don't think so. I'm pretty sure that Simon's mystery ICU illness was before all that.

Her daughter is only 11 years old. 😑
Gosh that hit me hard. She's just coming into a stage of life where she needs her mum more than ever- transitioning into womanhood with neither her mum nor her grandmother there to support her. My own daughter is the same age. Just breaks my heart to think of that poor little girl having to go through such pain and heartache, all because of her own mother. What will it do to get sense of self? I can only hope the love of her remaining family will help carry her through.

Wow, just wow! We heard parts of this reported but to read it in its entirety is mind boggling.

Erin, the owner of a large new mortgage free house and at least one property (townhouse in Glen Waverley) that we know of is complaining about not receiving $15,000 in family tax benefit anymore? Saying it was her only income since she didn’t have a job as she took time off to care for her children (her children were around 10 and 13 then, not small children!)
This victim mentality and greed just makes me sick, what a vile person.

She had plenty of money from her inheritance so I don't understand what exactly she wanted/expected?
Seriously, I have no clue.
Disgusting.

In the same year Erin met Simon, she had her first serious brush with the law.

In June 2004, Erin was almost three times over the legal limit when she was involved in a drunken crash at Glen Waverley.

Court records reveal she was driving an unregistered car and didn't stop after the crash or give her name and address. She was also driving 35km/h over the speed limit in a 60 kilometres per hour zone.

Erin pleaded guilty to five charges and was convicted and fined $1,000, which she elected to pay in $40 monthly instalments.

Her licence was cancelled and she was disqualified from driving in Victoria for two and a half years.

An academic upbringing in Melbourne's suburbs

From the courtroom in the regional Victorian town of Morwell, Erin's mind turned back to the suburbs of Melbourne.

"When I was a kid, Mum would weigh us every week to make sure we weren't putting on too much weight and so I went to the extreme of barely eating," Erin testified.

It's here in childhood, Erin said, that her lifelong battles with eating disorders and low self-esteem began.

"I'd been fighting a never-ending battle of low self-esteem most of my adult life, and the further inroads I made into being middle aged, the less, less good I felt about myself," she said.

Despite such feelings, many of those who know Erin remember her as smart and witty.

She was raised in a brick home in a quiet leafy street in Glen Waverley, a middle-class suburb, deep in Melbourne's south-eastern suburbs.

Gumtrees lined her family’s front yard, with parklands and horse-riding trails not far away.

Hers was an intellectual family. Her mother Heather Scutter was a much-respected lecturer at Monash University and expert in children's literature.

She wrote books and academic articles, and gave interviews — including to the ABC. Many former colleagues remember the academic as a lovely co-worker who was dedicated to her job, but not someone they socialised with.

Heather Scutter sits in front of a bookshelf indoors.

Heather Scutter spoke to the ABC several times to discuss Australian literature. (ABC News)

Erin's father, Eitan Scutter held director roles in multiple Australian companies, including in his home state of South Australia, and at Eden in NSW, where he later retired.

And while Erin was offered a place to study the subject at the University of Melbourne, her sister Ceinwen worked as a scientist at Monash University.

But Erin was no scientist.

Speeding and drinking. Smh. She didn't and never has had one drop of concern for the safety of others,
imo.
Sadly I understand how devastating and what lasting impact this will have on her poor children, but honestly, I don't feel those children are safe with her.
She seems to only care about herself, whatever Erin wants and damn everyone else.
And I bet you she has been this way her entire life, childhood included. Entitled, manipulative, and I believe a bully. Jmo.
I hope she hasn't hurt others that we are unaware of, but I fear she has.

How many here believe her? Because I don't.

I think 9 seconds to toss a bag in a bin and wash your hands is not out of the question, especially if your kid is in the car waiting.

Re the handwashing. When out for a meal, using the restroom recently, when it came to washing my hands I thought I wonder how fast I can do this and do an ok job.

Then I tossed the paper towel in the bin. It took me all of 10 seconds.

Edited to say that I am a bit OCD when it comes to washing my hands and I wash them for all kinds of reasons apart from using the toilet.

I wash my hands after I've touched clothes going into the washing machine.
I wash them after I've emptied the robot vacuum cleaners or the normal vacuum
I wash them if I've touched raw chicken or the bag it was in.
I wash them if I touch the kitchen bin even slightly
I wash them for no particular reason "just in case" 🤣

So for my test on how fast I could wash my hands properly, my inspiration was Superman and it's amazing how fast I could do it and still feel that the washing was up to my high standard :)
The 9 seconds also included her entering and exiting the restroom.

I cant recall where I saw this afternoon that the next court hearing will be for the sentencing, at which point there will also be victim impact statements.

1. Can anyone confirm the above?
2. Are victim impact statements voluntary (ie only if they wish to)?

A couple of bits posted here yesterday. Pretty sure that victim impact statements are voluntary - they give the surviving victims the opportunity to say their piece to the convicted murderer.

“She’ll be put in that prison van and she’ll travel to Dame Phyllis Frost. And there we are, unlikely to see her again until about August.

“That’s when her next court hearing has been scheduled. So of course, if she was found not guilty, she’d walk free. But now that she’s been found guilty, the next part in the court process is to set a plea hearing or a pre-sentence hearing.

“That’s when we’re expecting to hear victim impact statements from family members affected by this tragedy. And then after that, we’ll proceed to sentence.

“But sometimes that takes a while. So the first hearing will be in August, and that’s just a mention to discuss these proceedings going forward. But she potentially could appear at that in person. So she would need to be brought in a prison van for that as well.” Link

*************************************

From 19:42 ish Says in this video that Justice Beale is going on leave & a pre-sentence hearing will probably be in the 1st week of August

Still an interim suppression orders over things said in court out side of the jury's presence & that we may be hearing more about that soon ( I guess that is what the application is for tomorrow @ 14:15 ) Link

I recently had to pick up after my dog just before I was getting into the car to go home. No bins in sight so I had to take the bag in the car with me (just like EP claimed she did). I only had a 10 min drive home but the stench from the bag was gross even though I had double bagged it and tied it off both times. EP's son has no recollection of her having to do an emergency toilet stop.... think it is safe to say, the smell would have marked the occasion.
