Yeah well fortunately the sentencing doesn’t take into account personal biases and proximity.
What Martin Bryant did was absolutely horrific, but while his ‘body count’ was higher, he also wasn’t as rational as Erin. He didn’t even have a trial or due process.
In a sense, Martin Bryant’s crime was akin to a US mass school shooting, and yes, that is absolutely horrific.
Most of the people who carry out such acts are mentally ill, have intellectual disability or otherwise don’t have a formed prefrontal cortex which accurately ascertains consequences, which doesn’t make it less horrific, per se.
I’m not comparing in a way that compares the horrific nature of the offending.
Erin has been found guilty of purposely murdering 3 people and attempted murder of one by a jury of her peers. People she knew and who only supported her and her children. There was no diminished capacity, no psychotic episode, no mental illness. No disability. Premeditated, sustained, planned mass murder of people who were nothing but kind to her.
IMO
