They are not radios. Their radios can be clearly seen around their waist.

JMO

We will have to agree to disagree, as I am convinced they are radio's - just like to one in the SES mans hand.

I agree they are radios IMO.

I'm sure we would have heard at the inquest if Senior Constable Chris Rowley's was wearing a body worn camera considering all the searching he did & it was not mentioned at all. Nothing was mentioned in his testimony that he had or anyone else had body worn cameras .

IMO none of the NSW police had body worn cameras fitted that day.

This photo is of NSWPOL at Benaroon Drive 12th September 2014. Two of them can be seen wearing body cam. One of them is Chris Rowley.
Which one do you think is Chris Rowely?

I don't see any body worn cameras.

Here is a pic of NSW Police with both Body Cam and Radio

There are a few different styles over the years, these are from 2018 - but you can see the difference.

Officially rolled out then but were trialled and used in NSW since 2014

Reveal body cameras making a “big difference” in Australia | Reveal

I wonder if any responding LE wore these?

"After a two year trial in Kempsey, the cameras have been rolled out to every police station in the Mid North Coast Police District."

There are different types of Radio's that are used, and in Country area's are mostly needed - I can't go into specifics as I'm not an expert, but it's to do with one is to the normal Police channel and the other would be to communicate with the search command. IMO - you would need to speak to an expert.

Description of Police gear

Can you provide a link for the photo, so we know when it was taken - as I said before there are various models and it depends on which year they were used.

so am I right in saying that he may have arrived home around the same time William went missing?

Who knows?
I get the impression that Richard thought he got home sometime in that 15min (according to Laura Beacroft) window when William disappeared.
I get the impression that the police think it was around ½ an hour earlier than that ... judging by the time on the CCTV recording.

I wonder how long it takes to drive home for him from the tennis courts?

the larger one on their belt would be VHF, which has programmable channels and is used via radio repeaters specific for police, fire, etc. The smaller ones are UHF which work across smaller areas and depending on the range of their aerials and terrain limiting reception. I use both at my work.
It’s hard to distinguish which models they may be using in comparing it to the item on their collar. It looks like some body cams (which I also use as part of my work, but much newer than these), but some police do have the handset part of their UHF on their collars which is fed by a lead to the main unit which would be on their waists.
What makes it harder too is some earlier body cams had a lead for power, some were battery operated in the same casing.

If police had arrived on scene with body cams that morning, why hasn't there been any footage shown or discussed , either in the press, or police reports or in the coronial investigation?

Thank you - I'll have to take your word for it as there is no picture in that article for me.

They must have used it for a search engine thumbnail.

It's an open investigation so they won't show footage to public at this stage. For all we know there are police reports. Not everything is being released to the public and persons of interest.

That ^^^ article says that the bodycams were trialled by the "Public Order and Riot Squad, South West Metro Regional Enforcement Squad, Brisbane Water Local Area Command and the Northern Sector of the Police Transport Command".
(There is no pic of Chris Rowley, or any pics at all, in that article.)

This article (from Blues Clues) says the bodycams were rolled out in the mid-North in 2018. And trialled since 2016 in Kempsey.

Chris Rowley was senior constable in Laurieton. Which is neither a bodycam trial squad position, nor Kempsey. imo

Hard to make out. Here is a model of body cam which looks similar, but not sure of model that police used at that time.

She asked for a link to the photo of the police gear which I provided. She did not ask for a link to the Benaroon photo that is evidence they wore body cam. Rolled out and trialled are not the same thing. JMO
