The court was told the couple would enter guilty pleas to the regulatory charges when they returned to court.

The following link might be relevant to the offence they are going to plead guilty to. Disciplinary action

Published 8 years ago but I picked up a couple of things I didn’t know.

I think its a good idea to read through different old articles sometimes, some things get lost over the years.

I also periodically look at the layout of the house, trying to imagine how William "vanished into thin air":

Since both FP's full names were maintained on the NSW court lists right up until their matter today, could this be indicative of some development behind the scenes in WT's investigation?

Interesting to me that homicide detectives laid those charges, instead of maybe referring the matter to other police. I guess that's because homicide had the evidence.

Homicide detectives investigating William’s disappearance charged the pair last year with one count each of attempting to dishonestly obtain financial advantage by deception for asking a man to make fake bids at their December 2020 auction in an attempt to increase the sale price.

Evidence about the auction emerged on listening devices police had planted during the long-running investigation into William’s suspected death.

The couple’s lawyer Lauren MacDougall told the Herald the original charge had been “a novel use of a fraud offence in the circumstances”.

The auction case will return to court on September 4.

We've seen their names appear in such lists before, however IIRC they were usually redacted not long afterwards. I've been inclined to think the listing clerks are ignorant of the suppression order until it is pointed out to them.

Not sure how/why that didn't happen in this case.

Yep. The evidence says she gave an untruth, but it is spun that she is not guilty of lying. They will plead guilty to dishonesty in a transaction, but spun that they haven't commited fraud, even though surveilance evidence shows their organisation of dummy bids at their auction. Yo DJ, spin that wheel!!!

I suppose there's some doubt about whether the dishonesty caused them to receive a benefit.

Thanks for posting this. It’s a really well written article imo. It was also good to refresh myself on exactly what was reported (witness statements etc) at the time. Hearing from neighbours that ‘if he was there they would have found him’ with regards to the search efforts.

The article really portrays a sense of urgency that went into the search effort and almost disbelief that he wasn’t found. I didn’t know they searched all the neighbour’s homes. I also didn’t know the FFC mother left the house due to stress in between the time of the disappearance and the date the article was published.

I see the article makes comment about William’s complicated legal history being the reason the FC’s identities have been suppressed. I knew this, but it really made me think how sad it was that there was no press conference with the police and FCs, begging and pleading with genuine, raw emotion, for any information about William’s whereabouts. Especially if he really is missing/taken. That little boy deserved so much more.

Imagine, if little W's bio mother and bio-father had expressed their desire to relax on any shore from the excitement about their missing child!
At the time I didn't have any understanding for that. Still not today. :(

We were told in the "Where's William" podcast that the FP's were prevented by FACS from pleading publicly. And yet it has also been stated that the FP's actively sought to have their identities hidden within the 1st year of WT going missing. I agree that WT deserved as much as any other child could hope to have if they go missing. Now, since WT's disappearance, FACS have had legislation changed so you will only now hear publicly when a child in the care of the minister actually turns up dead!!

Bbm :( I feel the suppression of their identities has actually made people more suspicious.

Does this mean that if a child in the care of FACS (presumably in foster care) goes missing it won’t be reported unless they die and their body is found? I had to type that out myself to get my head around what you said!

FGM was in her eighties I believe, recently bereaved, recently in hospital. William wasn't in any sense her son. Why shouldn't she take a break if she felt she needed it?

I thought she was only in her seventies and described as being fit for her age (no source just my memory for that). No judgment on her for leaving though, it was just something I wasn’t aware of.

News.com.au understands the car belonged to William's foster grandmother at the time he went missing. She died in March [2021], aged 88.

Greedy, entitled, dishonest (no matter how one tries to spin it into a plea bargain) and above the law.

All characteristics needed to pull off a murder or accident cover up IMO.
