Unknown about the forest fires in the area. Not sure what you mean by the first, first following Bob's disappearance?
Here is a link to the weather for the day. The closest area to Placentia listed is Fullerton, CA. This wunderground site is amazing for historical weather data! hth:

Sorry Cubby, I wasn't clear. I was trying to form a plan in my head and posted about it before it had taken shape, really.
It's ambitious, but I was thinking it would be so good to organise some yearly satellite maps and charts for those great guys in the SAR thread. Fires, water levels and weather conditions, starting the day Bob disappeared and going up to the present. Just for our approximate area of interest, so we're going to have to come to a concensus on that.
Then collect the information.
Then get input from locals who can point out anything useful they have seen or know about.
Then present it in a really nice way, maybe with satellite maps that can be overlaid with fire/flood patterns etc, year by year.
Then hand it over to our SAR experts, because this is what they're talking about down there, so I'm presuming they'd know what to do with it!
I am sure all the records are out there somewhere. And I think the charts and things could be arranged from my end, will let you know.
What does everybody think?
