Due to Bob's misspelling of Fontelle's name, I believe Paula would have searched the wrong name, thus not finding her.

I also don't believe she would be dishonest about the December request of her father, because it debunks her sisters theory of this evil dishonest person whom their dad never met putting memories in his head convincing him they had a previous relationship. The other sisters theory was that their dad was not the same Bob that Fontelle had dated and been engaged to.

Paula is the only one I do not despise. I think she has been the most honest of all 5 of them given the circumstances and pressure she must be receiving from the others in the family.

Also, that RB mentions in her demand letter to Bob's attorney, PB giving their dad the heads up about paper work they were seeking, prior to Bob's irrate call to JeM indicates she was trying to be somewhat of a peacemaker and had some compassionate feelings for her dad.

That's how I see it.

I just made a stupid mistake about dates here, so have edited.

I do agree that it seems it was Bob who set out to contact Fontelle first, and all the daughters probably knew this the whole time.

  • #1,064
I was so wrong. You're right! I remember this, too.

Gosh, I'm a bit too suspicious of this clan, I guess. It's a striking coincidence that Fontelle's daughter was looking for him at the same time, and I'm not a huge believer in coincidences when it comes to this stuff.

Thank you for reminding me!
:rose:

I believe it. From memory, in one of Bob's letters to Fontelle it states he was trying or had tried to find her... her call was the answer to his prayers...

At the time, I didn't know what Bob's words meant, but they make perfect sense now in light of Paula's revelation Bob had sought out Fontelle long before she sought him out.

Bob had requested help in finding Fontelle in Dec of 2008 and iirc the first call from Fontelle to Bob was in May? of 2009.

I need to find Bob's letter again. IIRC, it is in one of the earliest MSM articles.

Thank you! I remember this. It's such a sweet, fairy tale-like reunion.

It's so heartwrenching how this worked out.

1st day of the rest of my life

Dearest Fauntel:

Your call was an answer to my prayer. I have been thinking of you everyday lately...

<snip>

So many times I wondered where you were, how you were, but it's so hard to locate someone and . . . if I did find you, could we get together?

<snip>

I always wondered how to get in touch with you because you were my first love and always will be, nothing can change that. This last year has been very difficult for me, you will never know how many times I have thought of you.

<snip>

In his absence, she guards the tokens of their romance: the photo of the day they married, the rings she wears and the letter he wrote the first day she called.

That letter is clearly dated May 3rd.

This could add a little more to explaining RB's panic-stricken, poison pen letter too. If all the daughters knew Bob had been looking for her, when Fontelle appeared they must have known a serious relationship or marriage was on the cards.

They probably started panicking about the estate the moment they heard she had been in touch.

I agree it made it crunch time, but why?
At least one, if not all, of Bob's daughters were made aware of his previous engagement before meeting their mother in Dec of 2008.

If they really trusted her and were happy for their dad, they would have entrusted her with the concerns about the hair dresser and been glad, as a married man, dad was probably not going to be handing the golden egg over to the hair dresser.

If it were really about their fathers well being and happiness they could have been a team with Fontelle to keep an eye out on their dad.

But instead, call(s) were placed to elder abuse services after the marriage, a demand letter was made to an attorney, and Bob disappears 10 days after the demand letter and coincidentally the day after a heated family meeting. The day before a cleaning lady is expected to arrive and two days before Mrs. Harrod were to return and the day an elder abuse social worker shows up.
(Did they notify elder abuse services when Mrs. Harrod was expected to arrive back in CA?)

Crunch time it was...

I wonder what the reason was for Paula's visit to Bob four days before he disappeared. Was this a 'heads up' about the demands that were going to be made at the Sunday meeting, or ??

I can't help but wonder what the episode airing has done to relationships in Bob's family. I think Fontelle's family will all be happy about the airing. I wonder if JuM is pleased with her sisters appearing though?

I saw this on the ID channel this morning. I was so hoping that when I searched on the internet that I would find news that this case had been resolved. I am glad I found your site, but sad to see that this case is still unresolved. Do the police even have anyone that they consider a person of interest? This is such a disturbing case to me...it seems there were several people who could have been involved in the disappearance. I hope that they continue to work on this case, and not let it slip into the cracks to be forgotten. If anyone has any information, besides what was on the show, about what the status of this case is currently, I would love to read more. Thank you so much, and I'm so glad to be a part of the Websleuth community!

Welcome Oawesome1

There is a ton of information about this case here on Websleuths. I'm sure someone will chime in here very soon to point you in the direction of timelines, current info, etc.

Glad to have another person interested in Bob Harrod's case.

ETA: Sorry, Oawesome1, this is addressed to you but I forgot to quote you....

To try and answer some of your questions:

Police have never named a person of interest, but in my opinion, from all the statements they have made and their actions, they definitely do have someone in mind.

I'm hoping LE will release a statement about the current status of the case, to reassure worriers like me - but I don't think Det Radomski has given up on Bob in any way, shape or form.

Welcome to Websleuths and Bobs thread! Below is a link to a legal document filed by Fontelle's attorney. Below is also a snip where family members are named persons of interest. The lead detective made a statement in the Disappeared episode that backs this up, IMO. And lastly, the entire document is a must read as it give you insight into the greed of Bob's family.

Even though a homicide investigation by the Placentia Police Department remains open and Jeff Michaels (son-in-law), Julie Michaels (youngest daughter), Andrew Harrod (grandson), and Petitioners Roberta Brady and Paula Borcher all remain persons of interest, Petitioners and Objector agreed to proceed through mediation before the Honorable Arnold Gold on March 25th, 2010.

What a perfect link to answer all the questions in one. Why didn't I think of that?

I love to post that link any chance I get! It says it all doesn't it?

That would make sense. A honey do list and let's go to the Hardware store after that 10:00 am call. Only SIL was unable to provide LE with any reciept to verify that morning HW trip. His provided receipts were for the am convienence store and the 3pm HW store trip.

I think Det. Radomski told us why the timeline hasn't been cleared up. 3 trips out, but only two receipts.

BBM. Even if he paid in cash they should be able to look at the cash register's itemized copy of the receipt to confirm that he was there. All they would need is for JeM to tell them what he bought.

I thought back to RB's comment about the sizable rift amongst the sisters (which dates back to January 2009) in the demand letter she sent Bob's attorney. Once the show aired, I wondered about the size of the rift now.

Good thought! If an item or items were purchased with cash, LE would have been able to obtain the register's copy of the receipt as you mentioned. I'm sure that would have been something they requested when asking to review surveillance video.

In fact, I am postive it is possible. I've preordered items before they are available to purchase and have misplaced the receipt. When I went back to the store and told them what I purchased and that I had lost the receipt, they were able to look my purchase up on the cash register.

Yet, still only 1 receipt for two hardware store trips. Hmmmm.

So it does strongly suggest that the trip where son-in-law met the housekeeper sitting on the front stoop, was the trip which he doesn't have a receipt for.

I'm still confused why detectives have said she arrived at three, and the housekeeper says she arrived at 12noon. Does anyone have any ideas about this?

I think I've found a solution for those who are unable to purchase the episode through Amazon.

iTunes has the episode available for 2.99 and it appears purchases from iTunes are available in a long list of countries:

Hoping this will work for anyone unable to purchase through Amazon.

ETA: Scroll down from tvmuse to find the iTunes link near the bottom of the page.

I'm not sure I am explaining this correctly, as I don't use iTunes.

Unfortunately, although I'm from the heart of Europe and use iTunes frequently, I'm not able to buy any Discovery ID products, nothing shows up looking for disappeared or Long lost love either. They simply don't offer it to us. I really wanted to see this documentary. :banghead:
