We're fine thanks. Those pillow fights make an awful mess though.

ETA: Mr Z finally agrees I should have a new computer now, after trying to work on mine for half an hour!

Okay I had a go. I reckon about 9ft diameter. Here are two images. First is from google maps and the second is my computer's zoom version with no scale attached.

The color is very close to the jeep trail color ie bare dirt. Ignoring the shadow idea for a sec, the circle is not precise. Something been and gone? I say that because I had a teepee here on clay soil and the circle remained for years after it had long gone. Energy seems to take ages to dissipate, without scientific explanation. It'd even slip in a crop circle notion, however there's no crops!

ps: Oops apologies for duplication. I've doubled up on you... is that a pun Z?

BBM. From Google Earth is it just under 10 feet in diameter. Could it be a Seismic activity monitoring station?

About 270 yards away (on the same road) there is another of those round thingies. Off to search for more. *looks at clock....crud.. work tomorrow. *sigh* ok I will search for more tomorrow*

Now that's an idea, because those monitors do seem to come in all shapes and sizes.
The one on this blog looks like a house:*http://www.unchartedstreams.com/2012/08/25/mount-saint-helens-the-final-showdown/

The one here is tiny:*http://www.teara.govt.nz/en/photograph/8215/monitoring-seismic-activity

And this earth observatory here, second pic down with the stone walls, looks pretty close to our circular 'white thing'.*http://www.leo.lehigh.edu/Projects/seismic/

Going through these sites, I see a lot of them are talking about sinkholes at the moment. Terrible, horrible acts of nature when the earth can just swallow someone up into a black hole. Vanish as though they never existed. How much worse is it for one human being to have caused another to vanish in the same way, in a cold, deliberate act of cruelty?

I was thinking about the collection of media contacts we want to have ready for when Disappeared airs. I can think of quite a few reasons why it might not be a good idea to post a complete list. And some posters may already have quite a few, or even have established contacts already. I don't think it would be a good idea to post about that, either.

Does anybody have any ideas about how it should be done? Should we concentrate on CA? All send emails? Find one person to do it? I'm a bit foggy on the practical aspects and worried we might not have long if the show airs in April.

It is just that, it did seem to cause a lot of interest in Australia. So it is bound to cause as much if not more interest here, and especially for Californians. I know it is an outside chance, but I am just hoping there is someone out there in Placentia who may have a tiny bit of info that could help Bob's case.

Let's face it, after the initial flurry of media interest, there really hasn't been much. So there could be local people who think Bob's case was resolved long ago, and that tiny thing that they saw at the time that they didn't bother to report, would be of no value now.

Hearing about Bob's case with some of the information that has emerged since his disappearance....well, people may realise they have been holding the answer to one of the puzzles all this time, and never realised.

zwie, are you a former Californian and keeping that from us? ;)

I'm certain there are people who have information and don't realize it. Wish the whole world would watch or read a local news story on a missing person every now and then and think back to what they were doing that day. Such important information can be gained that way.

I have actually lived in places where I didn't know exactly where I was. And have many times driven into different countries and not known it. Have never driven across the sea accidentally though ( just into a river). So I'm as confident as I can be I'm not a former Californian. :)

And boy, do I agree about the info!

Actually, the river was one of those sea inlet things. So technically, I have driven into the sea I suppose. I didn't get to California though. Didn't even get two yards. Rescued by a fisherman with a big jeep and sympathy for the completely stupid.

Oriah is giving me a short course on how to get coordinates. Does anyone else need an explanation of how to do this? I need input on some areas, but had no idea how to translate it into coordinates so that our SAR folks could use their expertise. :)

  • #92
Yes and yes. Are you doing it in the SAR thread?

Count me in. An explanation here would be great, imo.

thank you!

I want to store any info about found remains somewhere together, that doesn't move much so they are easy to refer to. Can't think where though.

There are really only two ways to do this. Set up a thread for each set of remains in the UID forum, or use the advanced search feature for Bob's threads to search for posts discussing human remains. I think the latter would work better for the time being, imo.

If Bob's case continues to draw the interest we have been seeing the last 6 months or so, we might get our own sub forum or a spot in Hot Cases. Wouldnt that be nice?
