I agree with everything you said.
Given the proximity of Bob's house to many mountain roads, passes and camps, my guess is he is up there.
My guess is he is not more than an hour away from the house, probably less. IIRC you can get up to the mtns in about 15 minutes?. Think about it. You just killed someone.

There is a large "park" (Carbon Canyon Regional Park) about 20 minutes from Bob's house, I use the term park loosely because from the google picture of it, its huge. Lots of houses but also lots of canyons and ravines.

Placentia PD don't have their own cold case unit at all anymore (I recall moaning upthread about it closing due to funding issues)?

Orange County doesn't have a named one either. Larry Montgomery works at the OC DA's Bureau of Investigations, as an investigator for the TracKRS unit (tracking killers, rapists and sexual offenders)? Here, though he's not listed:

TracKRS is a cold case unit in everything but name, which individual police depts in OC can request help from?

Does anyone know who has to pay for the investigation in those cases? The individual police dept, or the DA's office?

I'm not being pessimistic here, it's just that I'd like to know (moneywise) exactly who we are asking to pay, and for what, if special funding would have to be allocated to investigate Bob's case. I don't think an investigation by Larry would be cheap, and if Placentia has to fund it, there might be a time of yearly budget allocation when it would be worth us reminding those with the decision powers that Bob's case is still unsolved?

I do find it very heartening that a distinguished law professor is taking an interest in Bob's case. He's open about his identity but I won't go pointing out exact details of where he's commenting, for reasons you may guess. I hope some of his students start taking an interest too.....

Yes, thanks, this is my understanding. I'm not sure who would fund the investigation but I'd guess the OC DA's Office.

Roberta posted this tribute the day before her mom's memorial at sea. Sounds like Bob had a lot of old friends in Morovia. I wonder if he got back in touch with them after Roberta passed him the news?

According to RB, Bob was a "total loner" and had only 1 close friend. According to RB, that's why they didn't hold a vigil for him after he went missing.

Dad is such a total loner and not normally sociable or outgoing, even in a social setting.

Dad has only one close friend that we know of, besides the BL who I don't think was ever a true friend.

He occasionally attended Masonic meetings and pot lucks after moving to OC but never talked about any social contacts made thru that connection.

Dad always seemed to prefer to be alone but I guess he could have had another side when family and friends were not around - we just don't know.

A candlelight vigil for family and friends was considered but there are so few local OC people who were close to our father.

Ya right, lol. Given the evidence which has been made public, they did not have a vigil for Bob because they did not want to draw attention to the case.

I'll bet the "special care-giver" Maria would be able to tell some stories.

The thing is, I think many people struggle when a long-term partner dies; they struggle to adjust to being just 'me' in all sorts of ways. Sadly, sometimes friends struggle to adjust to the bereaved person's new status too.

For an older person who has been married a long time it's a terrible wrench. They need all the help they can get to start socializing again. Sadly, it looks like Bob didn't exactly get that - and when he did struggle through on his own and managed to form new friendships, I think he encountered opposition from family.

So certainly in his widower year, I don't think he would have given much away to family at all. They might have truly believed he was totally isolated (though they knew about the neighbour and hairdresser at least). But I do think myself that Bob had a huge network of former workmates, and friends and people from clubs and churches etc - especially from Monrovia - who would have dropped everything to help in the search for him.

Just because people lose touch over the years, it doesn't mean to say they stop caring.

In England it's traditional for the brides' parents to pay, but I guess that can't be the case in the US - Bob's kids have said he was really mean with his money, after all. I wonder who did foot the bill for that grand event, and how the other daughters managed to fund theirs?
