I noticed that he had a very distinctive look, similar to babies with brain damage, cortical issues. Unfortunately, children who have disabilities are more likely to be victims of abuse.
Someone upthread mentioned he has the “shaken-baby look.” I’m more familiar with the immediate signs in the hours or days after a baby suffers such a trauma. Do we have any experts who can explain how this looks later on in infancy after some time has passed? Could it even be the source of his crossed eyes?
This child presents with low set, posteriorly rotated ears, thickened helixes / folding. depressed nasal bridge, sparse eyebrows with lateral thinning, and possible hypertelorism (wide set eyes). Those features are consistent with a chromosomal anomaly. 'Lazy Eye' can be present at birth and if it were observed by a clinician it would have been noted. It can also be acquired as a result of shaking. For the parents to state it is not related to any disability infers that it was acquired. How ? I don't know.

OP is absolutely correct in stating that children with disabilities are more likely to be victims of abuse. However, I can say with reasonable certainty that shaking is not responsible for this child's physical dysmorphisms other than potentially the 'Lazy Eye' , (but that doesn't mean that shaking hasn't occurred at some point).

*Unfortunately, clinical observations often come across as cold and dispassionate. That certainly isn't my intent here*

Holy moly, the child the father committed "willful cruelty" against was TEN WEEKS OLD at the time.
He's evil personified and how in hell he's out on the streets after that is all on the judge.

imo

Sorry I have just joined this one so I apologise if this has already been said but this looks to me like the dad beat the mum a few days before the alleged "abduction" - the black eyes are not consistent with an injury received in the last day or 2. He likely killed the baby and the mother is lying for him because she is terrified of him.

For what it’s worth, I recently fell and broke the fall with my hand - the first day my hand was swollen, bruised, and not looking great. However, 2 days later it looked GNARLY, so much worse. I’ll include pictures so you can see what I mean. Not necessarily saying that mum’s black eye happened exactly when she said it did - just thought I’d point out that in my experience bruises don’t always follow the timeline we often see in online guides. These pictures were taken around 4 hours after the injury and 2 days after

And younger, some injuries were healing.

more details than i’d seen previously on the 2018 incident involving the father in that above link

On Oct. 13, 2018, Haro and Avina’s 10-week-old daughter was admitted to Hemet Valley Hospital. Doctors reported to police that the little girl had an “acute” fractured rib, six ribs with “healing” fractures, a skull fracture, brain hemorrhage, swelling of the neck and a fractured leg bone that was “healing.”

“The combination of the above findings in a pre-mobile infant, in the absence of a plausible history of significant trauma to explain the injuries, is indicative of abuse (sic) head trauma, child physical abuse and nutritional neglect,” the officer wrote in an affidavit for a warrant obtained by The Register.

And yet he still found someone who would have more children with him!! I wonder if Rebecca or any of her family knew about the abuse and how serious it was?

How the $&?! Is this guy not in PRISON? How?!!!!!

Vanessa Haro, also known as Vanessa Avina, according to the document, told officers that she had picked up Jake Haro from work and dropped him off at home on Oct. 12 before driving to Beaumont to pick up her eldest daughter from school. She returned about an hour later and tried to nurse the infant, but she would not drink. Vanessa took the baby to a hospital.

Jake Haro told investigators that after Vanessa dropped him off, he took the baby’s temperature and found it to be 99-100 degrees. He bathed the baby and accidentally dropped it chest-first on the divider of the twin-basin sink. He could not detect any injuries.

That night, Vanessa woke up Jake and asked him to feel the baby’s back. He felt something “crackle,” the affidavit says. Jake told the investigator that he did not feel the crackle after bathing the infant.

Ok sorry i clicked through to the new OC Register story and it gets worse!! so i had to leave another comment. Yall He tried to blame (frame?) his wife at the time… even filed for a protective order from her (that was denied):

“Jake Haro told investigators that after Vanessa dropped him off, he took the baby’s temperature and found it to be 99-100 degrees. He bathed the baby and accidentally dropped it chest-first on the divider of the twin-basin sink. He could not detect any injuries.

Doctors at Loma Linda University Medical Center told the officer who wrote the affidavit that the baby had an “acute” fractured rib, “healing” fractures of six ribs, a skull fracture, a brain hemorrhage, swelling of the neck and a “healing” fractured leg bone.

Jake Haro told the officer that when he went home after visiting the hospital, his sister opened the web browser on his iPad and found a search for “How to feed a baby with broken ribs.” Jake told the officer that he did not use the iPad at the time of that search, which was performed before the hospital visit.

As the investigation continued, the officer wrote, Jake Haro blamed the injuries on his wife.

But both were charged with willful child cruelty on Oct. 5, 2021. They pleaded guilty to the charge on June 8, 2023.

Shortly after the baby was admitted to the hospital, Jake Haro filed a request for a domestic violence restraining order against his wife, Family Law records show. That case was eventually dismissed”

Yeah seems like he lied but there was enough evidence to charge her.

Isn’t this the woman he was with at the game also? I wonder if she knows more and helped given this whole messed up situation

How about the old healing fractured leg on the 10 week old? How'd they explain that?

I want to know who the prosecutor was that agreed to this guilty plea sentence for JH and then who was the judge that signed off on it.
I read that his probation violation was drugs and a firearm.
imo

"He was sentenced to 180 days in jail and 48 months of probation and is scheduled to appear in court in early September for an alleged probation violation."

I wonder where that child is now ? Can’t believe children are allowed around him at all.

I'd like to know where all of these kids are now. It's been said several places that the 2-year-old has been removed from their care. We know there's an older daughter (his, the one in the child abuse case) and a son (I think his, the one who needed the mouth guard). Early reports said they have 5 children. Is there another one?

Have they all been removed from their care (if they were actually in their care)? I sure hope so.

YIKES this story.

Not all cases of strabismus are due to a genetic disorder. My daughter had strabismus surgery when she was 3. Her eyes did not present any issues until she was about 2. Her doctor did not use eye patches. I can't be completely sure why this happened, but I feel it's due to a traumatic childbirth that caused her to have torticollis and later plagiocephaly which she was treated with a DOC Band at 6 months old. I believe the plagiocephaly moved her eye positioning.

Little Emmanuel might also have undiagnosed plagiocephaly (condition where the baby's skull develops a flattened area usually on the side or back of the head.) Usually this occurs when a baby is left in one position too long. My daughter's case was due to her neck issue, the torticollis, from being injured at birth.

That poor child, Vanessa pled guilty also!! IMO there is no room for redemption, who has custody of this poor baby now?
