The slain bodies of Rob Reiner and Michele Reiner were found in the master bedroom area of their Brentwood home, and within hours the investigation turned to focus on their younger son, a Los Angeles Police Department official reported on Tuesday to the city’s police commissioners.

The associate, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the family was not ready to speak publicly about the matter, said that the daughter then ran back into the house to search other rooms for her mother, not realizing that Michele Reiner’s body also was in the master bedroom area.

Only after paramedics arrived did an emergency worker come out of the room and inform her that both of her parents had been killed, the family associate said.

Question - Could the DP have more of a chance of happening since it appears to be determined that they were in bed when attacked and killed? To me that's so much worse than having an argument in the kitchen or dining room and picking up a knife and stabbing someone. He brought the weapon into the room with him for one, and only 1 purpose. To kill 2 people, his parents, while they were sleeping and totally unaware of what was to come. It was bad before, but this is beyond horrible. I am SO angry with him.

Yoga instructor Alanna Zabel told us that when she worked with Rob and Michelle in the early 2000s, Nick “interrupted pretty much all of [their] yoga sessions” for “20 minutes or so” with “intense … screaming.”

This egocentric, middle child, had serious behavioral issues, lacked impulse control, and resented his siblings for being born! Sadly, I think this seems to paint what we know to be consistent about NR's life.

Zabel, a wellness and child development expert, was engaged early in NR's life to help teach him how to manage his big emotions (via private yoga sessions), which they did. In 2015, while NR was living in a sober house, Rob Reiner engaged his son to create "Being Charlie," hoping he'd find a sense of purpose and experience pride in his personal accomplishment, but I think for NR, the reward here did not match the work the project required of him.

IMO, sobriety wasn't a long-term option for NR because he didn't like the physical feeling of being clean. He never gave treatment a fighting chance because NR simply liked getting stoned, taking some pills, and doing whatever he wanted.

Murdering people in their sleep is absolutely cowardly. It denies the victims any opportunity to fight for their lives. It denies them the opportunity to verbally appeal to the killer’s conscience, even prevent a murder from occurring. But mainly by choosing sleeping victims the killer can avoid looking into his parents eyes as he’s destroying the very same people who gave him life. Pure Evil.

In a Dopey podcast interview seven years ago, then-24-year-old Reiner called in to the program to talk about his experience of relapsing on methamphetamine. The podcast focuses on addiction and recovery.

Reiner said he remembered that, about a year before, he was taking “cocaine and something else” and was up for days on end.

“I started punching out different things in my guesthouse. ... I started with the TV and then I went over to the lamp and then progressed,” Reiner said on the podcast. “Everything in the house got wrecked.”

That prompted him to leave Los Angeles for a recovery center in Boston in an effort to get sober.

But on his plane ride to Boston, Reiner said he was on meth and suboxone, a prescription medication to treat opioid addiction, and while airborne he said he had a heart attack.

“I literally passed out on the plane and I woke up in a hospital [in Boston],” he said.

After the hospital in Boston, Reiner said he ended up in a sober living home in Maine. But the goal of recovery was in vain because he said he just wanted to go home.

“Wanted to go back to my old life of smoking weed, kind of taking some pills, like doing whatever I wanted,” he said.

(Appearing on a podcast a few weeks later, Nick would be more candid about his ambivalence toward the movie and the promotional efforts around it. Sobriety, he said, was a relative term. While he’d managed to get off meth and heroin, he was still drinking and smoking pot. “I said to [the film’s publicists], ‘Listen, I’m not in a position to do this. I’m not a quote unquote sober guy.’ I’m going to have to go on these talk shows. They said you have to do this. They want the whole father-son angle. It just goes to show you how disgusting it is.” But he finally relented. “It was uncomfortable, but I felt like it was part of the job.”)

Nick Reiner and co-screenwriter Matt E. met at a rehab facility. Around 2011, they started working on this project with an eye towards creating a TV series based on the people and events they witnessed in recovery. Ultimately, the project became a collaboration between the real-life father and son team-- as a way to work through how NR's own drug problems affected their family.

The result, Being Charlie, premiered at the Toronto Film Festival (TIFF) in 2015. At the time of the festival, the film was still unsold to a US Distributor. (I believe the film ended up going straight to VOD (video on demand)).

Nonetheless, we know that Rob & Nick did many interviews and appearances 2015-16 to promote the film, and following the untimely passing of Rob & Michele Reiner, countless video clips from their interviews have surfaced.

No surprise, there are currently countless interpretations, critiques, and opinions of both the father and son from these interviews. However, after seeing so many comments and posts alluding to NR being either "disturbed" or not buying what his dad was selling, I wanted to remind readers about the truth of NR's sobriety during the time of these interviews!

IMO, during these joint appearances, we are witnessing NR being afraid and/or uncomfortable of being outed at any moment-- as a complete fraud! And not a fraud in comparison to his talented father in the film industry, but as a recovering addict!

Please take note that during solo appearances--such as a podcast only a few weeks after appearing in Toronto with his family, NR was more candid about his ambivalence toward the movie and the promotional efforts. Alone, he would confide: Sobriety, is a relative term. While he’d managed to get off meth and heroin, he was still drinking and smoking pot.

Make no mistake, 18+ failed attempts at rehab is what you get when the addict has an alternate definition of 'a sober person' (i.e., the science of sobriety).

I've opined before that recovery has never been NR's goal, and I'm shattered for these parents who were so obviously "All-In" to save their son.

Perhaps the professionals with degrees on their walls--telling Rob & Michele Reiner that NR was a liar, who was also manipulating them, were right all along.... MOO

Thats what I thought, I heard , So this kid goes home murders his family, Manages to get himself to Santa Monica and rents a room right next to the pier ( its busy isnt it?) rents the room in his own name ,allegedly uses his own credit card , doesn’t officially check out but leaves blood all over the bathtub /shower and covers the windows with bedsheets. He somehow makes his way over to the area near USC, walks into a gas station to get a drink and is carrying a red backpack… What on earth was he doing? Assuming you mean Nick? I said that to my friend earlier, 100% those eyes. Like Bryan Kohberger. Chilling in those instances!

My husband has an uncanny way of disappearing under his covers. We've been married for 20 plus years and sometimes I have to look twice to see if he's in there. If MIchele's sleeping habits were similar, it's entirely possible Romy didn't see her.

OF course, as you point out, that means she was probably stabbed under those covers.

I've seen this quote a couple times now, and I don't really understand what the person was trying to say. Perhaps it's over-edited

Is he saying NR wanted to be 'loved' by the Hollywood industry, but they only care about the work you do?

What work have his siblings done that has lead to them being loved, and by whom?

Or is the speaker only referring to his parents as being 'loved'. And, are they really only loved for the work they did? Wasn't it maybe that they were kind, fun, generous, too?
