To me, NR suffered from Dad & Mom wanting to cut him, a drug addict hostile son, off. So, at the time of stabbings and slicing Mom and Dad's throat he's insane by media, but all of his actions post killings he does not appear in any way to be insane. I don't buy this. In the video clips of NR roaming the streets post murder, he appears to be at ease and feeling free without a care in the world. Huge public fight at a celebrity party brought shame and anger to son in which he finally acted on impluse that was perhaps street drug induced or maybe not. Not insane at time of murder in my opinion

ITA, I think the other train of thought is it's his defense lawyers (team?) leaking this to the media to already plant the idea to maybe even potential jurors to blame meds for this crime and not him MOO JMO

Oh, absolutely. I wasn't trying to deflect blame from him, he's 100% responsible any way you slice it. I just wanted to dispel misconceptions about psychosis because it leads people down an inaccurate logical path, i.e. he can't be this because he did this. Whether he was or he wasn't, he needs to be held accountable and kept far away from society permanantly, imo.

I wish we knew more about the party, they keep talking about the same incident with the same guy not much else. What was the fight about? Who left first? RR or Nick? I’d be surprised if they would leave without Nick, and leave him at the party if they were that concerned about his mental health ( that’s why they brought him allegedly) There has to be more info we don't know yet.

And factor in the alleged med review/adjustment while allegedly taking street drugs ( who was aware of that? ) Im waiting for “the system failed him “ to come out. 17 rehabs was that the system or him not trying? ( just thinking cost probably would have not concerned him, maybe never took it that seriously?)
Same with the med adjustment , if he was that off the wall, who was monitoring that? And how much is the clients responsibility ?

Exactly. They learn where the bread is buttered that way, and it reinforces their antisocial traits. **NOT BLAMING VICTIMS* since I know that no one know how their own behavior could have affected NR. They all did the best they could, and sadly paid the ultimate price.
I do hope is his locked away forever, whether in Prison with treatment, or in Treatment (like prison).

maybe it will all become much clearer when more information becomes available! but judging a case like this seems (especially the sanity question) seems pretty complicated to me. i hope there will be an outcome that will bring a sense of justice and that will make the family feel safe, while also giving a fair process to someone with mental illness. tbh, i do think he has a much better chance at that last part than most mentally ill people who have commited a crime who don’t have his background and wealthy family. i’m interested to see the case that the defense will make.

something i’ve been thinking — NR does seem like he has been a really unlikeable character even before this reached this tragic climax, and i wonder if and how the defense will try to make him more likeable to the jury, besides focusing on creating empathy for his mental illness and addiction.

Then they will have to keep their client away from the stand, because whenever Nick opens his mouth, his nasty personality shines through his words. Also, I bet provoking him into angry outburst is a piece of cake.

I agree. And I think undiagnosed schizophrenia could far more likely result in a successful insanity defence than blame for medications for the treatment of it, whether changed or not. JMO

Was a blood sample taken from NR after he was arrested?
This would show what drugs would have been in his system along with his prescribed meds.

Very familiar with that defence around here, Mathew De Grood killed 5 people at a party, also connected And the Winnipeg bus guy that cut off a strangers head ,waved it at police through the front window of the bus. They say untreated schiz, can’t remember if that meant undiagnosed or just untreated.

my prediction is that they’ll shave off his beard (and maybe do something to his eyebrows?) as soon as possible too, to give him a friendlier look! i don’t know if we will see him in outside clothes any time soon, but i bet they would put him in a woolen sweater.

personally, i do feel conflicted about him! i think it must be so hard to live with addiction and schizophrenia. i think he’s both a victim (of himself) and a monster, when you think of what he has done. i totally understand if people only see him as the latter, too and i do think other people should be protected from him, clearly.

I get schizophrenia and MH issues are beyond total control but many suffers have fulfilling lives by stabilising meds , it would seem nick had a seething resentment that prehaps prevented him from wanting to stabilise in order to cause as much havoc and unhappiness to those he resented imo moo

This comes across in the Charlie interviews, you can see the hate aimed at his father ,this is in my opinion an example of how Nick enjoyed watching others squirm and feel uncomfortable

Yes I agree. I watched the 25 minute interview with Rob and Nick in 2015 by AOL. If you watch the interview and his mannerisms, you can tell that something is off. He doesn't make a whole lot of eye contact and he is staring off into space. When his dad was talking about their relationship he seemed agitated. The interview is definitely something to watch. He is clearly disturbed. What is a parent supposed to do with a child of this nature? The Reiners had to much heart to institutionalize him and Rob Reiner told friends he was scared of Nic according to many news articles. Then to throw drug addiction into the equation, he was a ticking time bomb. Imo
