I took that as sarcasm. Making a joke about being dead in ten years and not needing a large home. I think he said it with a smile. JMO

Yes I envision it as perhaps a little schtick...kvetching about the cost with a fond smile and giving in.

It could be Japan.
That's the usual logic but I know there are some people who buy huge cottages up here in Muskoka. Way bigger than their homes in TO. I think they see it as a multi-generational home which is what Honey was thinking about based on some of the anecdotal evidence we have heard.
They were even going to have an elevator in their new house to make it easier for them.

Has KD or anyone else ever made a chart relating to the "follow the money" theory in which they list different people related and/or involved with BS & HS and how they actually came out better or worse financially after their deaths/murders? In other words, who benefitted the most from their deaths/murders? Who would have not benefitted had they lived?

Yes, that's how I pictured it. There's truth in every joke, and I believe Barry did not want the big house. But, they also couldn't stay where they were. The new place would have an elevator, etc. And it would make Honey happy, which I think he cared about. JMO

Off the top of my head. Who am I missing?

Who benefits if they live:
Builders
Charities
Apotex
FDA (continued support from Barry)
JK (keeping his job)
HS sister (if it's true HS promised her money)
The children (if they love their parents and don't want them to die)

Who benefits if they die:
The children and their spouses (financially)
KW (possibly, BS would have enforced that $300,000 judgment had he lived)
AP (by virtue of his business relationship with JS being financially boosted, potentially)
Competitors (if they felt Apotex would fail somehow without BS)

The will specified where the money went. The Sherman's four children.

MY COMMENTS.................

Who benefits if they die:
The children and their spouses and their friends (financially) YES!

KW (possibly, BS would have enforced that $300,000 judgment had he lived) I believe the court ruling would survive the death of Barry Sherman, KW would still be obligated to pay, if the the heirs wanted to pursue it

AP (by virtue of his business relationship with JS being financially boosted, potentially), Once JS has his share

Competitors (if they felt Apotex would fail somehow without BS) Not a direct relationship as such. Four years later Apotex is still running along fine.

Adding to the who benefits if they die list, imo, speculation.
Those who did not want the new house to be built, coveted the desirable Forest Hill property, or who would lose a family home if BS called in a loan.
In short, something or other to do with real estate. Wondering now if the Shermans owned properties/homes in other places around the world (not including Florida)

What if the motive was pure personal revenge instead of just money?

I don't remember where I read-but understand The Sherman's owned a condo at Bloor and Yonge street and were to move in there once their house sold and until their FH home was completed.

Sherman family interest in real estate was quite substantial, and these private companies wouldn’t have been included in the probated will/estate files released.

“Relatives pop up in the records of Sherman’s non-Apotex ventures held through “Sherm”-prefixed companies—including Shermco Inc., Sherfam Inc., Sherfam Industries Inc., Sherfam Holdings Inc.—as well as Bernard C. Sherman Limited and numerous trusts and private foundations. The Shermans’ real estate holdings—apartment buildings, condos, commercial properties, rumoured private islands—were held via Sherfam Inc., Signet Realty and Weston, Fla.-based Sherm Realty, as well as trusts. At one point, Sherman owned Deerhurst Inn, an Ontario resort, but sold it after failing to obtain a casino licence. Just months before he was killed, he partnered with a prominent Toronto developer to provide $61.5 million in financing for the most buzzed-about condominium project in the country: The One, an 85-storey structure to be built at the corner of Yonge and Bloor….”.
Endless court battles, angry relatives and shady players: the truth about Barry Sherman

The children receiving the money would only have occurred if HS died in addition to or before BS. Otherwise, HS would have been the sole beneficiary and received all of the money. Was LE was looking into this as to why perhaps both may have been killed together by looking closer at the conditions in the wills?

I think it’s important to remember the probated estate files released were really only pennies compared of the full value of estate.

Slain billionaire Barry Sherman's will divided estate equally among four children
“The newly unsealed estate papers list assets of more than $124 million, though that number would not include the bulk of the Sherman fortune that was tied up in various holding companies.

In fact, at the time of Barry Sherman’s death Forbes had estimated his net worth at $3.2 billion U.S. and the Toronto Star has reported that it could be much higher than that.”

TPS have never suggested they are looking at conditions in the wills to determine why they were killed together.

You might have drawn that conclusion from the following quote but if you read it closely, Yim was simply arguing why the Court shouldn’t release search warrant documents while the estate file was still sealed. Two other points -
- Wills and estate files are not synonymous, wills contain instructions for disbursement of the estate but an estate file contains a full accounting of the value of an estate at the date of death including payables and receivables. This must be determined prior to disbursements in accordance to the Will. As well, we know little or nothing of the non-probated estate files.
- LE will obtain ITOs to collaborate statements which may lead to either incriminating or clearing persons of interest or opening another investigative avenue entirely. An ITO is just that - a legally required document to obtain information.

Estate of Barry and Honey Sherman part of Toronto police murder probe, detective tells court
Oct 16, 2019 — “The information from the (Sherman) estate files is embedded … it is embedded within the ITO,” Det. Const. Dennis Yim told the Ontario court of Justice during an application from the Toronto Star to unseal hundred of pages of search warrant documents called an”ITO” or “information to obtain”.

I’ve heard that rumour, but haven’t found anything about them owning a GTA condo.
Barry had invested in a condo development prior to his deaths.

KD wrote the the Shermans had two homes on the market at the time of their murders. Their plan was to sell one and live in the other until their new home was built.

From KD’s book:

Posted this link on the Ukraine thread, but it fits here too considering the hired hit man theory, speculation, imo, fwiw.

PUTIN'S SECRET ARMY: Mercenaries accused of global atrocities | Toronto Sun
''The Wagner Group sounds like a plodding wealth management firm located in a strip mall outside Kansas City''
''But this organization does not greet people with a toothy good morning and a coffee. It welcome comes with a bullet.
Despite the bland name, they are in effect, Russian strongman Vladimir Putin’s secret army. And they have unleashed bloodshed around the planet.''

IMO, in the former Sherman's world nothing has not to do with money, it seems. HS+BS were humble in their lifestyle, it always seems, but then there are some greedy children, some greedy relatives of both sides HS+BS, many businesses re sponsoring someone, many own large businesses, 8000 paid employees, million dollar homes/condos, "manny" pending court cases, sponsoring of politicians, etc. etc.
I think, revenge for something re a huge sum of money might well be possible. Revenge on both, Honey and Barry, because they both were to blame for a huge loss, which turned the killer's life upside down. Something like that perhaps. I have no one in mind for that.

We also heard, that Honey's relation to the 4 children wasn't really unclouded, so to build a "family home" for all (including children-in-law and grandchildren) doesn't make the most of sense in my eyes. Why should they have met there often, especially since they all have more than enough money to have their own mansion and also nannys for their children (no need for grandparents as supervisors ;)). MOO
