I believe the detective lives in New YorkKD has never admitted to not understanding the ITOs, estate law, the content of the will he was reading, the court judgment he was reading, etc. It drives me crazy and is the reason there is a ton of misinformation out there. The court would flat-out say that references to persons of interest or current investigative activities are redacted, and he would blithely report as though the newly unredacted stuff was the current police theory. Or he would have an actual copy of the will and report that it left everything to Honey, and that she must have had a will that someone destroyed. In the past year or so this has slowed down; perhaps someone with a legal background explained this stuff in a way he finally understood.
On the detective: Rich people like to have liaisons. The detective is doing nothing of any value that I can see, nor would his investigations be useful to the police. His real value is probably as a translator of sorts: he understands TPS jargon and processes and can explain it to whoever hires him. The police cannot give the detective any confidential information. It’s exactly as you joked: a cushy retirement gig.
As for why TPS would investigate whether the Shermans were followed: it’s a double murder investigation. They need to run down all of the possibilities, however unlikely. They got several judicial authorizations for “tower dumps” that would show whether anyone with one of about 300 phone numbers of Sherman associates was travelling with the Shermans. That was a bust. Then they got an authorization that would show burner phones or other unknown numbers travelling with the Shermans. Also a bust. This information was unsealed when the investigation moved on to other things. They also have videos showing the Shermans’ movements on the evening of the murders.

I went looking. This is from the Star’s coverage in early 2021:I believe the detective lives in New York
I noted this as well. As one individual who was extremely close to Barry, and likely knew most of everything that was going on in Barry's world, I believe Jack had a hunch who the perp(s) were. Here is an excerpt of the obituary for JK that appeared in the Globe and Mail today. I assume this obituary was written by one or more family members. Note the parting shot that the writer gave to a certain someone, which I have bolded. I believe Jack knew who was responsible for these murders, and wasn’t able to live long enough to see his suspicions confirmed. MOO
“… Jack's next move in the pharmaceutical business was to Montreal to join ICN Canada Pharmaceuticals in 1973, where he rose through the ranks to ultimately be a senior executive at that company. In 1982, Jack took a flyer and joined Barry Sherman at Apotex Inc. in Toronto (a then fledging company), where he would ultimately become the CEO until his (involuntary) departure in 2018. Together, Barry and Jack - kibbitzing back and forth through their adjoining offices - built Apotex into the amazing Canadian success story it became. Jack and Barry were extremely close (even as they would sometimes grumble at each other like the two Muppet old guys in the balcony), and they shared a steadfast commitment to improving lives through medicine and giving back to their communities. Jack was absolutely devastated when Barry and Honey were murdered. While Jack said he did not believe in the afterlife, we leave room for the idea that there is more kibbitzing going on in a world beyond. After Jack left Apotex, he continued his work on various corporate and charitable boards….”
Jack became friendly with Frank after the murders. If he shared anything with Frank we don’t know about it…yet.I noted this as well. Since Jack was devastated by the murders, I wonder if Jack did some sleuthing on his own, or was he so sure of his hunch he did not have too.
Did he share his hunch with anybody?
JK and others close to the Sherman’s and Apotex feared for their lives for many months after the murders. JK spoke to LE, but I sincerely doubt that he relayed his true suspicions to many others, and certainly not to FDA.Jack became friendly with Frank after the murders. Are you sure, 'JK and others close to the Sherman's and Apotex feared for their lives for many months'?JK and others close to the Sherman’s and Apotex feared for their lives for many months after the murders. I'm also very curious of this group you speak of. I agree with the view that it was none of the children but when you speak of a group do you refer to a group that hired an individual(s) to commit the murder or an actual group was in the house carrying out the murder? ThanksI agree that none of the Sherman children killed their parents.
I don't think it was a group but am curious about this group you speak of.![]()
A number of Apotex executives were provided with security for many months. I have personal knowledge of two individuals that received such security. Are you sure, 'JK and others close to the Sherman's and Apotex feared for their lives for many months'?
I believe JS had pretty tight security when KD visited him at his home, but was it significantly upgraded since the death of his parents.
Did JK think he was a target? Why would he be? What would be the motive to have JK dead?
Remember, no one knew why the Sherman’s were murdered (in fact, we still don’t know). Executives of Apotex didn’t know if the executives were the target. So they obtained security protection. Are you sure, 'JK and others close to the Sherman's and Apotex feared for their lives for many months'?

Even the perp(s) were afraid..........of being caught.Remember, no one knew why the Sherman’s were murdered (in fact, we still don’t know). Executives of Apotex didn’t know if the executives were the target. So they obtained security protection.
Regardless of the reasoning: Why both Shermans? That is the most striking and important point, it seems to me.Even the perp(s) were afraid..........of being caught.
Almost 8 years later we still do not know why the Sherman's were murdered.
If we ask what changed and who benefited as a result of the Sherman's deaths, maybe we can develop some insight into the 'why' of the murders.
To stop Sherman's from doing something they were already doing.
To stop something the Sherman's were planning to do.
To precipitate some action as result of the Sherman's deaths.
As the deaths were 'up-close and personal' revenge and/or retribution are possible reasons as well.
Could it be possible some of these reasons were combined?

What did they do together except the building of the new mansion? Not even that, when you are believing, that HS would have received a giant sum from her husband and planned to build HER home in HER name with this money and with the acceptance of her husband.
First, as it seems, something was going on in the Shermans’ house. Holly missed the philanthropy meeting and hinted at something happening.
So imagine they were killed as the result of this new development. They could not finish BS alone: HS would likely know the motive.
Another issue, the money belonged to both. Holly would get them in case of Barry’s death, right? Well, alone for the first time, she could have developed new ideas and plans.
