It would be stupid, if anybody involved with the murders threatened KD.

• If KD was threatened, he would assume he was on to something important, so he would double down his efforts.
• The person doing the threatening, would likely be involved with the murders, and this would give law enforcement another avenue of investigation.
• Those involved in the murders want the case to go away quietly, threats only create publicity.
• If people involved live overseas, they probably do not know or care who KD is.

KD has never admitted to not understanding the ITOs, estate law, the content of the will he was reading, the court judgment he was reading, etc. It drives me crazy and is the reason there is a ton of misinformation out there. The court would flat-out say that references to persons of interest or current investigative activities are redacted, and he would blithely report as though the newly unredacted stuff was the current police theory. Or he would have an actual copy of the will and report that it left everything to Honey, and that she must have had a will that someone destroyed. In the past year or so this has slowed down; perhaps someone with a legal background explained this stuff in a way he finally understood.

On the detective: Rich people like to have liaisons. The detective is doing nothing of any value that I can see, nor would his investigations be useful to the police. His real value is probably as a translator of sorts: he understands TPS jargon and processes and can explain it to whoever hires him. The police cannot give the detective any confidential information. It’s exactly as you joked: a cushy retirement gig.

As for why TPS would investigate whether the Shermans were followed: it’s a double murder investigation. They need to run down all of the possibilities, however unlikely. They got several judicial authorizations for “tower dumps” that would show whether anyone with one of about 300 phone numbers of Sherman associates was travelling with the Shermans. That was a bust. Then they got an authorization that would show burner phones or other unknown numbers travelling with the Shermans. Also a bust. This information was unsealed when the investigation moved on to other things. They also have videos showing the Shermans’ movements on the evening of the murders.

I went looking. This is from the Star’s coverage in early 2021:

As part of his investigation team, Seiden has hired a former Toronto police homicide detective who has “good” relations with the Toronto force, Jonathon told me.


Bloomberg’s coverage is from August 2023 and essentially says the same thing:

Here is an excerpt of the obituary for JK that appeared in the Globe and Mail today. I assume this obituary was written by one or more family members. Note the parting shot that the writer gave to a certain someone, which I have bolded. I believe Jack knew who was responsible for these murders, and wasn’t able to live long enough to see his suspicions confirmed. MOO

I guess the term 'involuntary" is the new woke term for fired.
I think JK had JS "number", and knew what he owed BS. I would imagine BS & JK spent hours discussing family. JS probably knew this and resented it. Maybe he resented that closeness, and was jealous. But for whatever reason it was a clear firing and removal from the inside track.

With the Shermans dead, the four trustees Barry Sherman had left in charge of his estate decided that there was a risk of violence and had hired a team of men who at one time had guarded Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu. They were not armed but had experience in self-defence and martial arts and used a sophisticated communication system to keep in touch. Beginning that weekend, the four heirs—Lauren, Jonathon, Alex, and Kaelen—and others, including trustees and senior Apotex executives, had an application called Octopus installed on their phones. If any of them needed help, they only had to touch the app, which would alert a quick response team, in addition to the bodyguards assigned to them.

One of the trustees (Brad, Alexandra’s husband) also filed paperwork with the court seeking to have Barry’s wills sealed because of fears of kidnapping and violence toward the heirs and trustees. No supporting evidence was ever filed. No threats against the heirs or trustees have ever been made public.

I get the sense that Alexandra was genuinely concerned for her safety. She has spoken about her fears.

Rational behaviour goes out the window when a person is scared. And a fearful wealthy person might hire security that’s well outside what others might consider appropriate.

I don't think it was a group but am curious about this group you speak of.

I'm also very curious of this group you speak of. I agree with the view that it was none of the children but when you speak of a group do you refer to a group that hired an individual(s) to commit the murder or an actual group was in the house carrying out the murder? Thanks

A number of Apotex executives were provided with security for many months. I have personal knowledge of two individuals that received such security.

Remember, no one knew why the Sherman’s were murdered (in fact, we still don’t know). Executives of Apotex didn’t know if the executives were the target. So they obtained security protection.

Honey wouldn’t get the money in her name, she was the beneficiary of a testamentary trust.

However, whether anyone besides Barry knew this would be a guess. It’s possibly he told his kids. Honey may not have known or may not have understood. She didn’t have a will and didn’t seem to have an interest in the operation of the family finances.
