Also from the Time interview (link above):

Q: Your trade adviser, Peter Navarro, says 90 deals in 90 days is possible. We're now 13 days into the point from when you lifted the reciprocal, the discounted reciprocal tariffs. There's zero deals so far. Why is that?

A: No, there’s many deals.

Q: When are they going to be announced?

A: You have to understand, I'm dealing with all the companies, very friendly countries. We're meeting with China. We're doing fine with everybody. But ultimately, I've made all the deals.

Q: Not one has been announced yet. When are you going to announce them?

A: I’ve made 200 deals.

Q: You’ve made 200 deals?

A: 100%.

When asked with whom the deals have been made, he just repeats the department store analogy and complains how the US has been ripped off by "almost every country in the world".

Utter BS.

If you believe that, I've got a casino to sell you, by the name of Trump

idk if im the only one with this thought, but to me personally, i think what makes it worse is the fact that the average american voter is not evil, rather the avg voter here is just incredibly uneducated, and, sorry to say, *very* stupid. not even as an insult, but in a pitiful way. its very sad how uneducated many are here.
Welcome to Websleuths @citlalicue! 😊 I agree. I noticed a big difference between what I was taught about the government in highschool (1963 grad) and the fact that those classes weren’t even offered to my daughter (1988 grad). I think many people are not aware that the President can’t do what Trump is doing. He plays to their feelings of victimhood and foments fear of immigrants so that’s all they think about…not about how he’s chipping away at constitutional rights. It’s a tragedy.

It isn't BS in my opinion. This man has some serious cognitive issues. He can't remember anything he has said except the incongruous lies.

The incompetence is astounding. He seems to believe tariffs are making the USA billions of dollars. I'd be willing to bet that he can't even write the numeral for one billion.

From your link ...

"President Donald Trump is claiming, in a Time magazine interview out Friday, that he's made "200 deals" so far in tariff talks but wouldn't say why he hadn't announced any."

Just blowing smoke ... again?

I was reading yesterday about an Aussie company that is US tariff exempt. It always has been tariff exempt, and will continue that way.

It is exempt because it helps people with disabilities, as per a decades-old exemption.

Maybe Trump will list this as one of his "deals".

Australian sleep health giant Resmed has locked down an exemption from Donald Trump’s sweeping trade tariffs.
Resmed produces sleep apnoea machines and accompanying technology in Singapore and Australia, and the $49bn company confirmed this week its existing tariff exemption will continue in the US.

The company is the fourth largest healthcare firm on the ASX. On the US market, it is worth more than Lululemon and eBay.

“We have a tariff exemption under this decades-old protection. The tax revenue wouldn’t be material to the US government and there’s no reason for them to want to turn over something and get constituents or citizens upset about not caring about people with disabilities,” chief executive Mick Farrell told the Australian Financial Review this week.

I don't think the Australian company making a statement that might bring it to Trump and Co's attention is a good thing.

They don't care at all about anything that cares about people.

I actually wondered who has sleep problems (Trump, consistently making announcements on his social media platform in the middle of the night?) that might explain the exemption.

He seems to “forget” that it’s the U.S. consumer paying the tariffs and making the U.S. “billions of dollars.” It’s not the other country.

He also claimed he’s not aware of stories that have been all over the news, and we know he watches the news all night. Lying liar who lies.

Lots of deranged answers:

But I am this giant store. It's a giant, beautiful store, and everybody wants to go shopping there. And on behalf of the American people, I own the store, and I set prices, and I'll say, if you want to shop here, this is what you have to pay.
He sounds very determined to find a way to violate the constitution and continue as supreme ruler of the USA.

His answers are nonsense, as usual.

I'm struggling not to hate, between trump being a Russian Allie and his 51st state comments and the tariffs in the news every day it's just bringing out anger. We all know when Cheetos got elected it was going to be bad but never expected this much bs. How do we as Canadians over come out feelings of being hammered every day with this it's on the news on the coffee shop it's parents talking as they pick up their kids from school . It's going to be a good few more years before he's gone if we are lucky.some of the maga members are really pushing buttons now. . its kinda sad when China looks like the better trade partner then the USA. I really wish other provinces follow Manitoba and start stopping the flow of energys flowing to the USA. The only people I really fell bad for is point roberts they are more like Canadians.jmvho

It's hard to know how to handle this effectively and correctly. Certainly, if Canada stopped exporting energy into the US, there would no longer be a trade deficit, but would it make any difference? Countries without trade deficits are being treated badly by Trump too.

How does Canada show Trump that the US economy relies on our Canadian resources, other than by taking them away and waiting for the fallout? Meanwhile it is ordinary American people who would suffer. Somehow, I don't think it is helpful when Canada behaves like a jerk.

I have no doubt that Trump plans to turn the American people into Canada haters to facilitate an invasion and theft of what he needs in Canada. It is classic Fascist behaviour.

Trump knows that the USA relies on Canada for energy. He's counting on the USA population being ignorant of that fact. For the most part, that appears to be true.

When Ontario Premier Ford briefly added a surcharge to hydro-electricity (that Eastern States use to keep the lights on), the USA government went nuts and slapped a 50% tariff on vehicle parts entering the USA from Canada. The USA Government was clearly very upset that Canada controls USA energy.

.
Trump’s fixation on a tariff battle win against China could cost him the trade war

“They got the China piece of it very wrong and misunderstood what it would mean to really back China into a such a corner with such extreme levels of tariffs,” said Emily Kilcrease, former deputy assistant U.S. trade representative during the end of Trump’s first term and the beginning of former President Joe Biden’s term.

“Trump thought that China was a pushover and so he behaved like a New Yorker saying ‘let’s do a deal,’” said Harry Broadman, a former assistant U.S. trade representative in the George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton administrations.

“Whoever is advising him clearly does not understand China.”

Wouldn't that be why you specifically organize an experienced group of top trade officials with knowledge of China and how they view trading BEFORE you make oulandish and an apparently whimsical, nonsensical massive tariffs.

That is how a well-organised president, or CEO, or business leader would do it.

I think that is likely expecting too much from a person who has filed for bankruptcy 6 times. I actually don't believe Trump has any real business acumen or instincts. I think his father ran the show, then Trump jumped off his father's (notorious) successes.

imo

Especially if , like Hegseth claimed ., they were now going on merit... no longer would they look like fools.. .. famous last words.. Xi Jinping must have been gobsmacked at the utter ridiculousness of Trump and his sidekick, Vance.. .. Where did they find this idea that this was how 'deals' were done'? even in the USA , deals are not done like this, otherwise the USA would have sunk like a stone long ago. There are battalions of Americans who know how to bring a deal to a pleasant conclusion, where win -win is normal and expected. None of whom are among Trump's advisors..

It's as if he refuses to seek out the best advice there is.. that kind of stuff is in no shortage right across the USA. It is simply mad, and , unfortunately , ever increasing madness.

"US Out, China In.

Xi Announces Birth of China-Africa Community.

View attachment 581309

Chinese leader Xi Jinping and Kenyan President William Ruto
announced on Thursday
that bilateral ties were being raised to a 'new level'
and pledged to create
a 'comprehensive China-Africa community'.

Xi Jinping said China and Kenya agreed to

'lead the development of China-Africa relations
and the unity and cooperation of the Global South.'

The decision was made
'in the face of the turbulent international situation',
Xi said.

Africa is a key part of Xi Jinping's
Belt and Road Initiative,
which aims to expand China's geopolitical and economic influence by developing global infrastructure.

China's actions in Africa contrast with US President Donald Trump's decision
to close an agency that invests billions mainly in Africa."

And this is where the "soft power" diplomacy comes into the big picture. "Hard Power" means nothing without the soft power influence on hearts & minds around the world to back it up for longevity and influences sake.

Someone is always willing to take up the mantle when the world is left with a vacuum.

I was reading about exports from Arkansas ... China being one of their significant export customers, and Canada and Mexico being their largest export customers. Link

The reason I was reading about their income perhaps being affected by tariffs is because of this.

Trump denies aid for Arkansas after storms that killed more than 40 people

Will Arkansas have enough money to help their people?
