If it was being protected, I don't think reporters would have been able to get photo's of the keys to begin with. I also recall seeing photo's/video's of the area after the vehicle was removed, it was not being protected. JMO

Contaminated if not protected.

As far as I know they were not reported missing until the day after their burnt camper truck and Mr. Dyck's body were located
A very good point. In that case, just to be consistent with my young acquaintance's view, they would have just decided to steal Professor Dyck's vehicle because it was in some way better or at least better outfitted than their own. However, truth be, I can't recall exactly when they were reported missing or, more importantly, when they were called out as being charged with the Professor's murder.

Me too... during quiet moments I unintentionally notice my mind present with LF and CD at the side of the highway. I try to replace that scene with the happier one of them on video at the gas station. They seemed like joyful, wonderful people.
That footage of them at the gas station was just lovely (and heartbreaking). They really did seem genuinely very happy with each other and life.

I read all about the preliminary hearing in the Bernardo/Homolka trial in the British press, which also did not follow the publication ban. The local news agent had it for sale. Later, after those papers were temporarily banned from sale, I had someone mail me articles.

Agreed it was also avail in the British press. I lived just over the Can/US border, so my deets came from the US.

Canada has very different laws and standards regarding the publication of things deemed to be of investigative or evidentiary value both prior to any possible court case and during trials themselves. And often long after post-trial too.

No court cases with cameras - artist renderings only etc. No evidence documents being released to the public etc etc.

Canada is nothing like Florida with it's "Sunshine Law" or anywhere else in the states. I stated back in the beginning of this saga that those looking/waiting for the nitty gritty details of this case may find themselves greatly disappointed. Kind of sucks, but it tends to be the way we normally roll around here.

Yes, quite right. A very good point. In that case, just to be consistent with my young acquaintance's view, they would have just decided to steal Professor Dyck's vehicle because it was in some way better or at least better outfitted than their own.
Personally, I think that Dodge Ram truck would have been better equipped to handle the off-roads they took than the Rav4. I would be surprised if the truck would have gotten stuck in the mud like the Rav4 did--or as badly, if it did get stuck. Just MOO.

I know you guys are all passed this, but I have confirmed(for my own brain really) that there were two computer towers in that photo with someone I very much trust to know that.
I now 100% do not think they planned any of this. I truly believe they Were planning on going to look for work and things went haywire along the way.

ETA: The one on the left is an XTI case apparently, though I don't know what that exactly is yet..will add once I know. Also having them compare the photo of B with a computer in the background to see if they can tell whether that is the same kind as one of the burnt ones. Information is coming from someone who works with computers(I'm talking ALL aspects of them) and is pretty much a genius when it comes to them.

I agree.

I might be a soft touch, but I feel the same way. I don't think he necessarily makes good decisions in regard to talking to the press, but I still feel really bad for him. That interview he gave when he just thought they were missing was very raw. I've said it before on here and sincerely don't mean to sound like a broken record, but he reminds me of people I've known--incidentally from working in a public library--who were not well and were really hurting. I think the only person in his life as a family or friend was probably Bryer, and now he's gone, and in the worst way imaginable.
Yes, my take completely...

PLEASEpleaseplease, hit the "Go to First Unread" button or search for @aphoto and read...
What am I missing that I need to read? Aphoto has unconfirmed information that the keys are in police hands but can’t say for sure, and has reason to believe they were still there four days ago? Hopefully the answers will come, and we all appreciate the intent and effort to learn more, but there’s nothing particularly definitive about either of those limited points.

They smiled & laughed a lot in photos, always goofing around. I keep thinking I need to try to enjoy life more, as they did. Prof Dyck, too. Happy people. There are so many lessons in this tragedy.
I think we’re thinking of different people... AS is BS’s dad...
But yes, if you’re thinking of LF and CD, they’re good examples of carpe diem-ing... :)

But gas is more readily available than diesel from alternate sources.

I saw an interview with CD’s mom, who said something like that video is a gift to her... the happiness was so evident :)

Yes, that's true, probably the only upshot, besides just fear regarding their earlier vehicle being spotted, so anything would be better.

Yes, I can see why. I'm glad her mom has that. I remember her mother saying that her taking the time to clean all the windows instead of just sitting there and waiting for him was so something she would do.

The problem I have with some alternative theories on WS is they don’t start with the facts to build a narrative. They are heavy on complicated “what if” stories and light on known specifics. The evidence isn’t coming solely from RCMP. All kinds of people have contributed & tested the emerging picture without coming to conclusions: journalists, photographers, people from all walks of life on WS & many places in the world.

It is a truism that the hardest thing to see can be what is right in front of you. For me, seeing the size of the military response in Gillam shifted the weight of non-publicized evidence to proof, ie, what I don’t know but can indirectly see is happening. Governments don’t spend millions of dollars searching for nice boys.
But they do when there is international publicity and horror at the senseless murder of two foreign tourists and an innocent man in a tourist area. If the amount of time and money spent is equated to confirming guilt, that is frightening. No amount of money spent on plastic surgery can make someone "a natural beauty" and no amount of time and money trying to prove someone guilty with no evidence will lead to a conviction either. I wish LE were able to spend the same time and money on investigating the many other unsolved and continuing murders there.

Are you sure AUS 60 Minutes pays people? Do you know how much?

Yes they do. It will depend on the value of the story.

This has received enough coverage in Australia that AS would get a five figure sum.

I think it’s safe to say I’m the only person in these threads who has been to Gillam during the search for K&B and whom is in contact with multiple people still on the ground.

Don't know if I missed them but have you posted any photos of the searched areas in or around Gillam?

I imagine a judge asking "how and where were the keys you need to prove that KM and BS were at the scene found" or "and how and where was the knife alleged to have been used to murder Mr Dyck (hypothetical) found?"- the reply, "by a reporter, somewhere on the road, days after"...."but it doesn't matter, Judge, as WE decide what is important and WE believe they are guilty and they are dead now anyway, so can't tell you something different"...things that make you go hmmm.

Yes. They came across a sleeping couple in a blue van, and murdered them in cold blood.

I do not think the flagger who escaped an attempted abduction near Fort Saint John this week is living in denial. People who live and work in that area are expressing worries.

Ahem.... I wasn't referring to the flagger who escaped an attempted abduction near Fort Saint John this week ;)
