Ironically it was the burning vehicle that brought immediate attention to their disappearance. If they were looking to buy time they could’ve driven to a private campground, paid a few days fee and nobody would’ve been the wiser they were long gone until camping fee was due. Or just parked in the bush and until somebody noticed and reported it abandoned, it would’ve went unnoticed.

That’s one of the puzzling aspects to this case, the burning of vehicles, not once but twice.

There’s something very unusual about this photo of the burned truck which doesn’t make any sense. Notice the vegetation and trees including the green weeds right behind the truck box which the camper was sitting atop of...that reportedly melted due to the high intensity heat? JMO but the site of the burning truck and camper wasn’t exactly there, it was towed out of the deeper bush.

B.C. teens charged with 2nd-degree murder as Canada-wide manhunt continues
Has their been an image of the front of the truck anywhere?

Burning truck and body of Leonard Dyck were both found on July 19, but we don't know exact time. Stikine River bridge on BC highway 37 to Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan seems too far a distance for this sighting. Cold Lake July 21 early morning sighting make more sense.

Extracts from the article:
“I will confirm these two individuals did stop in to my business for haircuts early Friday afternoon (July 19),” remarked the owner of a local hair salon.

salon owner asked not to be identified by name ...
employees themselves denied Northern Pride’s requests for an interview ...

I see a large burnt area around the truck. I think using a long telephoto lense made the green grass appear much closer.

Even much closer is still pretty darn close IMO considering the intensity of a blaze required to leave a camper and truck burned to only a shell. The brown areas look like dead grass to me, it’s noticeable on the edge of the gravel as well. Fire leaves behind dark black ash.

Burned grass - very black coloured.

I looked at all published photos of the site, and there is really no other spot where the truck could have burnt. The fire may have been started inside the camper, and perhaps light wind was blowing towards the front of the truck.

The media photos, yes but the earliest media photos were taken after the fire was put out and investigators were already processing the scene. There would be no media stationed nearby which makes it is very different than say, immediate reporting in a well populated area where the media has the opportunity to follow fire trucks.

we have all looked over and over at the pic of the burnt truck. something seemed off to me though I couldn't figure out what. now I see the front fender of the truck is sitting much higher than the back fender when comparing to where the tire rims are. I wonder if the truck is sitting with large rock wedged under the frame on the front. the front looks to not have the weight it should have. maybe it was wrecked.

Holy cr*p! Is it just me, or does the shape of this closeup of burned grass look like the shape of a body? If this was at the location where the truck was burned is it possible that they "kidnapped" LD frm where his RAV4 was, burnt him AND the truck and then took him back to the pull off to make it look like it had nothing to do with their vehicle's burning? I know its a long shot but anything is possible.

I bet they utilize satellite imagery.

“Satellites send digital image data in several spectral bands to receiving stations on earth. These systems use multi-spectral scanners to collect

It’s a different type of imagery. And not exactly specific to the size of a person. It’s kinda an area of 300m by 300m and then the reflective heat source is figured out for that area. It would take some time for me to find again but a couple years ago I was reading up on so I could figure out the wildfire maps for what was happening around me.

Stock photo, is it not?

Also, the Dodge and camper was found Friday morning as was Leonard's body (as I recall reading.) That doesn't rule out Kam and Bryer could have killed him, burned the truck and left say round the midnight to 3am hour.

It was found on fire in the afternoon. So most likely noon is the earliest they left the Dease Lake location.

I’m pretty sure it’s a stock photo, completely unrelated.

Ya this is why I was wanting to see the front of it. I was wondering if they wrecked it somehow and were stranded (hence the hitchhiking). The frame just looked off a bit in the front from the few angles I have seen, then I started to notice I couldn't find any front views after it was burned out.

Edit: My husband throwing out the theory they tried fixing it (why the hood is up) and ended up starting it on fire instead. Or if LD tried helping them and same thing happened and they took it out on him for losing everything.

I don't think the rim is there on the drivers front either. it looks like the brake, not a rim. moo.

I think the intense heat of the fire caused the steel frame to break or twist where the truck box meets the cab, resulting in the V looking bent frame. You can see the bottom of the truck box is warped close to the cab. It could have been due to the diesel fuel leaking out and concentrating there or accelerant from items in the camper being closest to that location.

Early pictures of the truck show it with the hood closed. It’s only after they started processing the truck that images, with the yellow evidence markers, show it with the hood open.
