Well up until the area was locked down. Not exactly sure on the timeline but I sense they had plenty of time to travel before that happened and could be anywhere now. There is doubt however because there seems to have been no reports of a stolen vehicle unless it involved another homicide and its not been discovered yet. I don't think they would be hiding in the bush as that's a no win situation and I think they would know that. Just my opinion.
Someone mentioned earlier tonight that someone gave them a ride out but who knows...

Don’t they have pub bans in the US or Aus?
Maybe Aus and the UK? but not in the US, to the contrary, some States you can find all case information online!

Yes - "gag order."

I guess there are 'gag orders', but it is nowhere near like Canada's rules about publishing information before trial.

I am amazed how in the states you can find so much info on a person like criminal history, what jail they are in and charges etc.

District Attorney's are also elected there though, right?

I usually follow American cases because we typically get more info. Canadian cases are not as easy to follow because we have a situation like this and then when they are caught, LE shuts up. We will not get much info for months, maybe even years, and that will be preliminary hearings and possibly trial. And even that is different.... it's trial by tweet lol There are no live streamed trials here.
No, district attorneys and prosecutors are not necessarily elected. It varies by area, but where I live, the chief of police and prosecutor are not elected officials, and that is not unusual. As I said, I think this goes beyond just whether officials are elected because it is not an given that the major players in an American investigation are and in a Canadian investigation they are not.

Unconfirmed. There have been a number of comments like this all over social media, none of it is substantiated.

I hope they give an update tomorrow. Either why they think they are still in and around Gillam, or where they think they may be.

yes.. on the grounds of sub judice… Once a perp is arrested, one doesn't hear a thing for sometimes up to a year, depending on the process. If the person arrested is considered nuts, it may be some time before an adjudication on those grounds takes place, add on a few more months, and so on. Au, USA, Canada , Britain, NZ, lots of Commonwealth countries follow this procedure.

I think they are headed toward Ontario (if not there already) then onward to Quebec if in fact they got out of the Gillam area. I think they want to see the country as they play hide and seek.

I am amazed at the number of press conferences given so far....very rare for RCMP. But, yes they are tight lipped.
This is the exact situation where you’d expect a high number of press conferences.

An active manhunt is going on for two spectacularly dangerous men, and they could be just about anywhere.

It is their obligation to keep the public informed, and to draw as much attention as they can to these animals.

I just hope the RCMP doesn’t need to hold many more.

They have had since Monday night to leave that area.

If this is correct, on Tuesday the RCMP learned of the sighting at the gas station which occurred the day before. Then shortly after that, Tuesday, same day, the car was reported burning. So it appears the RCMP were aware the suspects were in or around Gillam while they were still there. Which presumably could be the reason the RCMP continue to focus on Gillam and area.

BBM

“They both stopped in, and they came to my till and he just asked to gas up $20,” Keeper said. “And that Bryer guy, he asked me ‘Is alcohol allowed here in the community?’ because there’s a big sign at the truck stop there, ‘No bootleggers or drug dealers,’ he was asking about that. I said ‘No, it’s not allowed here because it’s a dry community.’ That’s it. They paid for their gas and they left.”

She said they didn’t seem suspicious and added it wasn’t until Tuesday, when Schmegelsky and McLeod were named suspects in the deaths of two tourists and an unidentified man in northern B.C., that she realized she’d had a brush with accused killers.

“After I realized that it was them, I felt really scared,” Keeper said......

.....“A burned-out vehicle was later found near Gillam, on the territory of the Fox Lake Cree Nation, shortly after Mounties in Manitoba reported a possible sighting of the pair. At the press conference on Wednesday afternoon, Courchaine confirmed it was the RAV 4 McLeod and Schmegelsky had been travelling in. Officers recovered the vehicle after receiving reports of a car on fire near the reserve...”

I don’t think you meant to refer to USA as a Commonwealth country? Unless there’s another USA I’m overlooking?

And, due to the First Amendment, ‘sub judice’ is much less of an issue, here. The silence before a trial is usually due to the prosecution not wanting to talk about evidence, for strategic reasons, and the defense not wanting to talk about evidence, also for strategic reasons. The press is usually fairly free to ferret out whatever they can.

MOO

And another difference is our stringent confidentially laws in Canada I notice are different than the US. Plus our entire political system is much different as well. Canada was once a British colony and The Queen remains our Head of State. But entirely OT.

We don't know really the cops could have them in custody already. But they wouldn't tell the public that for quite a Time afterwards probably.

Nope. Not in the US.

That would be a violation of our First Amendment rights to free speech and freedom of the press.
