What did she say? I remember his father's brief statement about not being able to speak without crying and wanting privacy, but I can't remember her statement.

something about him being a good son and asking for privacy for the family
I'll try to find a link

ETA: I must be misremembering cause I can't find it. I edited my original post.

Hey guys. So extremely puzzled right now!
I was sure it was confirmed that the RAV4 belonged to LD? Was it not?
Thanks

I think it was confirmed that K&B were in the gray or silver RAV4, and their burned out truck was a couple of miles from the Professor's body. It is presumed that they did not own the second car, so it was stolen. LE has not charged them with auto theft nor said explicitly that the car belonged to the Professor - but we know from the Professor's family and friends that he was on an extended camping trip in a car. Ergo, unless we want to be really nit picky - it was the Professor's Rav4, at least in my mind.

The idea that theft motivated them to kill 3 people soon after embarking on their summer job seeking tip is pretty hard to resist if, in fact, they killed Lucas and Chynna.

They did not burn Lucas and Chynna's van, so that MO doesn't connect them. It's not clear the Professor was a victim of gun violence, so that MO doesn't connect them. Theft does link the two by MO (but there is actually no word from LE that they did steal the Professor's car, so I just leaped).

Purely speculation, perhaps the RAV4 wasn’t LD’s, instead was owned by a friend or family member who lent it to LD for whatever reason and given the tragic outcome, that individual just doesn’t want their name disclosed to the media at this time. I’m certain the RCMP would respect their wishes. The two suspects are charged with murder of LD.....not car theft of the RAV4 for which is barely a rap on the knuckles in Canada.
LE has never stated that the Rav4 belonged to LD, but I would be very shocked if it was not his car. I keep thinking that there must have forensic evidence in the truck & the Rav4 that ties KM & BS to both murders and that is why they burned both vehicles.

Getting an “article not found” message from your link

I just got the same message. Here's one that's working.

Sandra Broughton and her husband, a mechanic, were traveling on the Alaska Highway 97 when they spotted the couple’s camper van pulled over with its hood up about 3:30 p.m.

Fowler said the van’s engine was flooded and they were waiting it out, Broughton said.

“The guy knew what he was doing and he was confident they would be OK,” she told CBC News. “They didn’t seem in distress. They seemed like a young couple in love, just on their road trip in their van going north.”

What to Know About the Canada Highway Murders of Chynna Deese, Lucas Fowler and Leonard Dyck

If it is true.

It is true. In the first two days of this discussion, witnesses were interviewed and discussed here. A man and his children drove by the stranded van around 3:30PM. He asked the couple if they needed help. They did not need any help. This is not the mechanic, who also asked if they needed help.

Twenty minutes later, this same man's wife drove by and the couple were still stranded on the side of the highway. She had a car full of relatives and did not feel safe stopping on the highway because there was oncoming traffic in both directions. She contacted RCMP and notified them about the van at the side of the highway. We know that RCMP were 4 hours away, and they probably assumed that by the time they checked out the van, it would be gone.

RCMP responded to a call at 7:19AM the following morning, when they learned that there were two victims next to the van.

All links can be found in the first couple of days of this discussion - back on July 19.

And it was the woman with the full car who says Chynna was sitting in a camp or lawn chair "in the ditch" and waved at her (I think the gesture looks like a friendly wave, not a beckoning gesture).

Searched and searched and searched........can't find that anywhere.

Was listening to a Canadian (msm) radio podcast the other day, and the criminal journalist who was being interviewed did say the suv found burning in Gillum was Prof. Dyke's.

Been working and need to catch up on everyone's thoughts. If I find the interview on the radio station website can I post the link? I don't want to post anything that isn't allowed.

Thank you! Sounds like the McLeods have just stuck to a couple of general talking points and otherwise stayed out of the media eye. Can't say I blame them.

I didn't find it so I edited my original post.

criminal journalist?
you mean crime journalist?

A non sequitur of sorts, because I've never criticized any old member: I've been here since before Tybee passed away (RIP!), before Renee Fox, so that's at least 13 or 14 years. I just never made an account until a couple of years ago and post until last week. So not all of us are new. And this had been a hospitable, warm place for newbies. :)

Off topic ... Tybee - tragic accident, swimming and riptides, a very kind person who helped set the tone here.

Ah, okay. I knew his father issued a brief letter and thought maybe I had missed something else from their family, which honestly wouldn't be surprising considering how much coverage there has been.

But I am surprised at how much from people outside their families have talked about Bryer but nothing really about Kam.

I do not have a link, I am replying to judgejudi post of a cracked cylinder. that post states daily telegraph.
Mrs Broughton said, ‘With my husband being a mechanic, he likes to make sure people are okay see if they need help. My husband talked to the young man Lucas, he seemed to know what the [van] problem was. An engine problem, the engine was flooded, the one cylinder wasn’t working. He was quite confident it would be okay’.

She said they didn’t seem distressed or in danger, despite the van troubles. ‘We did see if they needed our help and he said ‘no’, he was okay’ and ‘we went on our way.’

I’d be curious what’s their source as the Daily Telegraph is a UK publication.

As the o/p only referenced the Daily Telegraph in the text of post with no actual link, I'm making the above, consistent, report by Mechanic and his wife the gospel on the van's breakdown.

The Broughton's statements have not wavered in print or in video during numerous accounts.

I'm quite certain the Mr. Broughton would have counseled Lucas on the nearest shop capable of replacing a cracked cylinder, and helped him arrange for the towing. This also could have been the end of their journey-- at least in that vehicle.

They left the couple confident they had things under control.

I think they are solid witnesses.

MOO

There are two possible routes from Port Alberni, Hwy 37 or Hwy 97 with the two hwys connecting to the north at Watson Lake Yukon. Both have several traffic cams along the way. I’m certain LE will have found the videos very helpful in determining the route traveled and precisely at what time who was where.

Traffic cams -
B.C. Highway Cams

Those highway cams are so important in this case. The truck and camper should be easy to spot compared to a small grey car which is a very common colour. They must know already if they were near the blue van or Mr. D.
