Here in my colder region of Australia we'd need a puffer jacket, beanie and UG boots.

But after the sweltering summer we've had, I'm almost welcoming colder weather.
Ours is often WINTER, and it lets us know it.

I just hope that tariffs don't affect our clothing too much, especially since Rivers and a lot of other clothing brands have closed down and here we're probably going to have to shop more at boutique more expensive shops. unless we get some new clothing stores.

Of course there is the internet and I do buy a lot online. With clothing whatever I buy usually fits but I have had a coat that went around me three and a half times.
And a brown coat that was kind of boucle, that made me look like a giant bear.
I took that back and got a smaller size but I still felt kind of big and bearish.
I ended up donating both coats to the Salvos.
That's probably where I bought my beloved bear coat, SA!! I've been wondering why people cross to the other side of the road when I wear it, ( hope it fits this winter, )....

I think he’s talking about George Soros. They put a little disclaimer in for optics. moo

“We do not direct, coordinate, or dictate the strategies or activities of the organizations we support,” said a statement from the Open Society Foundations. “The Open Society Foundations support a broad range of nonprofit organizations that work to strengthen democracy and promote nonviolent civic engagement. Our grantees operate independently and are expected to do so in full adherence to U.S. law.”

ye gods, not Soros again ,.. the RW has been moaning about Soros since the Lord was in the cadets, can't they get a new topic? rinse , repeat, rinse , repeat.. Soros didn't give them any money, and that defines enemy for the MAGA cult, that's all it exists for, money, nothing else. they'd sell their grandmothers.

'The Open Society Foundations support a broad range of nonprofit organizations that work to strengthen democracy and promote nonviolent civic engagement.'..... because this position results in profit for all , whereas violence and a weak democracy IDI AMIN"S one's own democracy... as will be seen first hand , I suspect, possibly this northern summer..

Foreign labour, particularly in agriculture, can be replaced with USA 18-30 year olds who prefer labouring in the sun over partying on the beach.

They won't do that. Why would they? They're not going to pay anything like a fair wage to free people. They'll default to modern slavery, and use the USA's enormous prison population to fill the gap left by migrant workers. Pay them pennies an hour and congratulate themselves on the money they're saving.

MOO

Trump has actually made me miss Idi Amin.. he was such a jovial fellow. He was straight up, too, he said he was going to pull Uganda to bits and he did!! He didn't pretend that he was going to make things better.. One just can't get a laugh out of DJT, this Canada nonsense is merely dreary and fantastical, his fixation on such poltroonery is repellant, not amusing..

Whereas Idi could suddenly , while destroying his nation from the ground up, make a good joke. When Princess Ann was to be married ( the first time ) .London sent out a pleasant note to all Commonwealth countries ( Uganda was such, then ) to send a little memento to the happy bride from their country.

Countries responded, great sets of Royal Doulton, enormous sheepskin rugs, handcrafted sterling silver supper sets, bear skin chair covers, jewelry, all the usual bridal stuff, Idi, seeing the opportunity for a great jape sent a crate of Bananas, gift card sayin, 'present from Uganda. '

London didn't know what to do. make a fuss ? accept it as ordinary? they chose the Brit way and with enormous dignity, placed the crate of bananas on the display table, flanked by the sterling silver coffee pots and cutlery, the Honiton lace, the bearskins.. People just walked past it .... with composure, so British..

EXACTLY where my head went, this. DEF THIS.

More retaliation against the USA government war against Canada. Musk is delusional. Are left-wing USA billionaires paying Canadians to boycott and/or vandalize his products?

"Musk briefly addressed the issue Monday during an appearance on U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz's podcast, saying at least some of the vandalism is organized and paid for by "left-wing organizations in America, funded by left-wing billionaires, essentially."

Ah yes, just like when they blamed antifa and whoever else for J6 violence, then turned around and said J6 rioters deserve to be pardoned. Why did they need to be pardoned if they didn't do anything?

Some of these people move goal posts faster than the weather changes.

Be careful.... I went around a curvy path in a park once and a near sighted guy almost got me with some bear spray- his better-sighted son stopped him in time.

One reason why US politics is so corrupt (and therefore allows a private citizen like Musk step in an take over the democratic process) is campaign finance rules.

I seems that in the US people and corporations can give lots of money to PACs. And that seems to be the vehicle that Musk used and that people like Peter Theil use.

In contrast, Canada limits campaign contributions to CAD 1,725 per person, to all parties. There are no PACs.
This means that billionaires have less influence in the voting process. Of course they buy other influence through media, etc., but not nearly to the extent that we see in the USA where it seems that elections are 'bought'. (Or at least significantly advantaged to the right wing party.)

ETA: US elections need a serious overhaul both in terms of election finance and gerrymandering. But, of course, we know that certainly won't happen anytime soon. We are still wondering if there will ever be another democratic election (as Trump has said their won't be one in 2028).

It wasn't set up to be so corrupt.

In prior administrations, the entity now know as DOGE and the director positions, and the funding and budget would have to be approved by Congress. There would be open disclosure of it's intent and means and open bipartisan scrutiny.

It would have had reasonable organizational chart, proscribed plans and rules, and Congressional oversight of the functions. Musk would never have passed the necessary security screenings or background checks. He would not have been allowed any hidden functions at all.

DJT has deliberately bypassed the legal protocols by his expansive and apparently unchallenged use of the Executive Order.

But one reason Musk got to the position he is in is that he contributed several hundred million $ to Trump's campaign. How did he do that?

Where did the Republican party go so out of alignment? The slippery slope from Eisenhower, to Nixon, to Ford , to Reagan, to Bush 1 & 2 , is like watching a large , somewhat boxy and awkward piece of machinery morph into a weird and uncontrolled , unstoppable electrified ziggurat of crazy, screaming to itself strange phrases and even actually scaring itself..... it is not enjoyable theatre, at all.

I cannot recommend the book It Was All a Lie by Stuart Stevens enough.

His thesis is that Trump didn't change the party, instead he revealed its true nature. His evidence is compelling.

And convincing considering he was a Republican campaign consultant for decades. So I expect he knows what he's talking about.

In the same vein is Why We Did It by Tim Miller.

Some American "giants" are directly contesting our Aussie PBS (Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme). Not that they can touch the scheme, but they are trying to influence it. The scheme fixes affordable prices for about 930 medications by negotiating good prices from the supplier.

American medical giants have labelled the federal government's Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) "egregious and discriminatory" and have pressed US President Donald Trump to target Australia when he imposes sweeping "reciprocal tariffs" on trading partners next month.

"There's no way we're going to change the PBS because of advocacy of any other country," Health Minister Mark Butler said on Sunday.
"This is a cherished part of the Australian healthcare system, one that Labor has fought for 75 years."
