I guess the answer to the question of why elected politicians sit quiet as Trump leads the country into recession is that those politicians believe that, after some hardship, they will emerge winners as the largest, wealthiest country in the world (owning Canada's natural wealth). They trust that Musk has a plan and that there will be short term pain for long term gain. That's the only thing that makes sense.

They'd have more control over the bird flu if they treated the birds more humanely. Instead of packing them in cages like sardines where they have no life other than pumping out eggs. No wonder the flu is ravaging the industry. I would think the same thing would happen here in Canada too if it took hold here.

Canada doesn't have chicken barns that house millions, as they do in the US. A large barn would house less than10,000. And farms are more dispersed in Canada than in the US.

Farms in Canada also suffer losses from the bird flu, but they are more resilient. So if a farm in Canada needs to be culled, it doesn't have the same impact on the market.

Also the Canadian egg producers have a supply management system that makes egg prices more stable.

"While investors watched in horror as the stock market plunged on Monday as a result of President Donald Trump’s sprawling trade wars, he was busy reposting praise for his administration on Truth Social.

The president posted over a hundred times between noon and 6 p.m. on Monday while the Nasdaq fell 4 percent, marking its worst day since 2022.

The hashtag “#stockmarketcrash” trended on Musk’s own social media platform, X, as the public reacted to the market’s nosedive.

In many of those posts, Trump continued to hail the sweeping tariffs his administration imposed on goods from Canada, Mexico, and China, even as those policies spooked investors into a massive sell-off."

Whilst this isn't Canada tariffs, it is still about Trump's tariffs!

Trump threatens EU with 200% tariffs on wines, champagnes and alcoholic products

Elsewhere, US president Donald Trump has just threatened the European Union, “one of the most hostile and abusive taxing and tariffing authorities in the world,” with 200% tariffs on “all wines, champagnes and alcoholic products coming out of France and other EU represented countries.”

In a post on Truth Social, he said this would be a response to the EU’s plans to put “a nasty” 50% tariffs on US whisky.

He said the proposed US retaliation would be “great for the wine and champagne businesses in the US.”

Not sure if US consumers and drinkers will be equally excited, though."

I believe the EU tariffs were a kind of sanction on Trump because of his actions towards Nato, Europe and Ukraine - and he's just retaliated. JMO

18 eggs are $8.50 here, which is still high, but that's because eggs are hard to get due to bird flu and the millions of chickens killed in our state recently.

I think this is likely and wish we, as a country (read media), would get off of eggs and be watchful about other things.

Rebates for single-family home chargers. The Government of B.C. and BC Hydro are taking action to preference Canadian goods in our rebate programs going forward and to exclude, where practicable, U.S. produced goods. As of March 12, 2025, Tesla products (electric vehicle chargers, energy storage batteries and inverters) are not eligible for CleanBC and BC Hydro rebates. If you purchased or have received pre-approval for your Tesla product before March 12, 2025, it can still qualify for rebates and will be processed as normal.

They are all scared. Many know there is no wealth at the end of a destructive tunnel.

Remember it is not just tariffs. He is desimating every US Social Service. Every one is scrambling to salvage...

EXACTLY....They are mucking up so much at all levels. There is simply no one single issue that is not in disarray. Seriously... teachers, professors, social workers, VA,

eggs, eggs eggs. Just a simple visual for all....

I am waiting for MUSK to just say "Let them eat Pancakes"

Aussie here. Im actually scared. Im hopeless at all things economics/financial but, with the stock market falling, was that on purpose so billionaires can buy them cheap? Or does the current US govt really not understand what they’re doing / have done?

At a recent press conference, when Karoline Leavitt (press secretary) was asked if the White House was shorting the DOW, she said no and then looked away in a manner that made her look like she was lying.

Sources: I watch a lot of Behavior Panel.

11:58 on The White House channel (are they considered a reliable source?)

I've seen jellyfish with more spine than Rubio. Guy went from anti-Trump to kissing the ring within a year.

Marco Rubio has said he is not planning to discuss Donald Trump’s threat to “take over Canada” during a visit to Quebec, as Washington’s top diplomat arrives to the backdrop of a raging diplomatic crisis and trade war.

When asked en route by reporters about Trump’s repeated comments on making Canada the 51st US state, Rubio said Washington was working on a number of issues, including defence and Ukraine.

“We’re going to be focused in G7 on all of those things. That’s what the meeting is about,” he said. “It is not a meeting about how we’re going to take over Canada.”
Rubio says Trump’s ‘51st state’ plan not on G7 summit agenda in Canada

Well we are in a space where Republicans have the majority everywhere and those are the people who blindly follow Trump, so what kind of response are you expecting?

The plan has always been to dismantle public services to allow private industry to come in and take them over.

It's the same concept as their private prisons.

"Tariffs are a tax cut for the American people, and the president is a staunch advocate for tax cuts."

I... what? Do Americans really believe this? Or is this just bad faith arguing / blatant manipulation of the American people?
No most Americans do not believe this!! Trump has spent the last decade brainwashing his followers and repeating his demented lies. This was Steve Bannon's chaos theory plan and the only change now is they are going at lightning speed to bog down all the illegal actions in the courts because that is what saved Trump last time, well that and McConnell changing the rules in real time.

The press secretary lies on a daily basis. The executive orders are riddled with false information. Trump has violated upholding the Constitution. K L the press secretary IMO is just a newer version of Sarah Huckabee Sanders. Keep lying and they'll eventually believe the lies.

Thank all of you for calling out this president. His mental illness and compulsive lying and delusions. Folks this is an untreated personality disorder, IMO, or psychosis at worst.

Please know that people are scared here. With good reason. I can't tell you what I know as fact from my side because I have no link to media.

Blame those who deserve it MAGA. Not us ordinary law abiding citizens who voted against this. Blame those who don't vote because "they don't like either candidate".

The GOP's plan is to break our democracy and seize control. Read project 2025. Trump lied to the people saying he didn't know anything about it. OR he was too delusional to recognize it.

All my opinions. I feel a bit beat up. Most Americans did not want this and too many trusted our system to work. And it does when the laws are followed. There is no diplomacy now.

Many of us are engaging. But with billionaires who can buy the election it is hard.

United we stand divided we fall.
