Canada doesn't have chicken barns that house millions, as they do in the US. A large barn would house less than10,000. And farms are more dispersed in Canada than in the US.

Farms in Canada also suffer losses from the bird flu, but they are more resilient. So if a farm in Canada needs to be culled, it doesn't have the same impact on the market.

Also the Canadian egg producers have a supply management system that makes egg prices more stable.
Thanks for the info.

I guess the answer to the question of why elected politicians sit quiet as Trump leads the country into recession is that those politicians believe that, after some hardship, they will emerge winners as the largest, wealthiest country in the world (owning Canada's natural wealth). They trust that Musk has a plan and that there will be short term pain for long term gain. That's the only thing that makes sense.
Did you see this Rachel Maddow report on the way Trump went about using tariffs as a cudgel and how Congress have the power to stop it? It's unreal.

At a recent press conference, when Karoline Leavitt (press secretary) was asked if the White House was shorting the DOW, she said no and then looked away in a manner that made her look like she was lying.

Sources: I watch a lot of Behavior Panel.

11:58 on The White House channel (are they considered a reliable source?)
I've noticed she's ditched the low-necked items because when she's lying her chest gets red and blotchy.

There are two options for USA elected politicians today. Rally together and do something, or pass bills that prevent others from doing something. That latter seems to be what's going on.

That means the decision is to do nothing and have faith that Musk will make it all better at some point in the future ... after a little financial pain for those who have no financial safety net.

Where is the Democrat Party leader today? Is there a Democrat leader? Why isn't that person standing up and speaking out at this time, or are the Democrats in agreement with this too? If Harris is the leader, it is time that she is replace since she is unable to say anything while the USA financial crisis escalates.
I consider the Democratic party a rudderless ship- there is definitely no leader I an discern. The Dems are almost as bad as the Republicans because they are allowing the Republicans to tear this country apart.

We've had a few outbreaks in bc and at every farm they had bird flu they euthanized all the birds. There was also a turkey cat food that got recalled due to bird flu View attachment 570685
I have a cat that was only eating turkey due to digestion issues and for a while I couldn't find any. I had to switch to what they call 'novel' meats like kangaroo, rabbit. Really expensive and I only bought a couple which she hated. I ended up feeding her salmon.

Well, one could argue the opposite given that the Republicans are actually the ones who have control of all three branches of US government.

If those moderates choose to remain silent and not take back their own Constitutional authorities (and actually giving it away embedded within that CR), there's not a damn thing the Dems can do about it.

"We the People" cannot even call their own elected reps to account as those Republicans have simply stopped having meetings and town halls.

How very democratic.

IMO.

Champagne is by definition French. There's no such thing as USA champagne. It's called "sparkling wine" in the USA. The USA federal government is preventing people in the USA from purchasing champagne by tripling the price. Did Musk just purchase a large supply of champagne and French wines?

"The name is legally protected by European law and an 1891 treaty that requires true champagne to be produced in the Champagne region and made from the Pinot Meunier, Pinot Noir, or Chardonnay grapes grown in this region.

I'm curious - will tariffs create a black-market industry?

I'm expecting sales of this to skyrocket...

If there was an identifiable leader of the Democrat Party, Canadians would know who that is simply because we want to know the Democrat Party position. I don't know who it is, and it's not that I don't read the news. That person is simply invisible.

<snipped for focus>

I think Elon can probably afford the increase in price with the tariffs in place, Lol.

How about ordinary Americans? My guess is no. These tariffs will raise taxes for American households.

I don't think ordinary Americans are really concerned about the tariffs on champagne.

Canada and the USofA had a binding and legal Free & Fair Trade Agreement in place.

It CiF in 2020 after having been negotiated and signed by 45, who also happens to be the current 47 who has breached it by illegally placing 25% tariffs on Canadian goods & services enerting the USofA. When he did so, he clearly stated that his goal was to collapse the Canadian economy so that we'd have no option but to join the USofA as his "beloved 51st State".

Canada retaliated with 25% tariffs of it's own for his illegal breaching of that agreement. When enacted as a retaliatory tariff in response to illegal tariffs levied contrary to legal agreements, the retaliatory measures are considered legal.

I'll put IMO because the facts have been linked in here utmpeen times. Canada did not start the trade war. Canada did not and has not directly threatened the US' sovereignty.

The US however HAS directly threatened our's and Panama's and Greenlands. The USofA has imposed tariffs contrar to signed agreements against Canada, Mexico, the European Union, Australia, New Zealand etc etc.

Oh, but damn all those other nations for speaking up, out and against the man run amuk in Washingston right now. Amercians in government who are letting him run rough-shod over their CONSTITUTION and Consitutional powers may remain silent, but WE are independant and sovereign nations and WE do not have to remain sient about it. And, obviously we are choosing not to. Where have all the actual Patriots gone?? Oh well.

"Blame the US soley" ... 100% on Trump. Canada has zero part in this except to defend ourselves AND our sovereignty. That's a right BTW.

Once again, everyone in the world is wrong ... America via Trump are the victims. FAKE NEWS.

Not.

IMO.

Don't you know? As per Trump, America has the worst USMCA deal ever! If only some bozo hadn't signed such a bad deal...

<modsnip: Quoted post was removed> ... "mainstream America" especially farmers fell for Trump's lies and now they're experiencing the full force of karma, in the form of these tariffs for example.

How could they make the same mistake twice?

The first time around, farmers had to be bailed out and propped up with subsidies due to damage from Trump's tariffs. Why would they support him again? Do they prefer subsidies over work?

Blocking champagne imports would be great for champagne business in the USA? Does he know what champagne is? Does he mean that blocking champagne would be great for USA sparkling wine business? Does he ever know what he's talking about, or does he assume the people he's talking to know nothing?
Trump accept and understand something that is legally protected via international agreements
You've got me in stitches now :) x
