Ummm we are note a flipping state we are a sovereign country

Would you agree that Canada is a sovereign state and should not even jokingly be referred to as the 51st state?" Coons asked Hoekstra.

Coons raised his fingers to make air quotes around the words "negotiation tactics," a reference to the dominant view in Washington that Trump's talk is some sort of bargaining ploy.

Chris Coons is ironically a local representative for me.

How could they make the same mistake twice?

The first time around, farmers had to be bailed out and propped up with subsidies due to damage from Trump's tariffs. Why would they support him again? Do they prefer subsidies over work?

If you add up all the aid from that list it's about half of Musk's net worth, give or take. Think about that.

They voted for him because we are so divided they won't vote for a Democrat and especially not a woman.

I'm sooooo tired of hearing threats of trump trying to take over our country. At what point do our Canadian leaders that's enough. How long do we sit back and watch our leadership deal gently with tariffs instead we need to find new markets and there are new markets. Maybe open the pipeline from alberta thru bc to ship the oil overseas rather then enbridge makeing the line bigger to the USA threw alberta. If smith was doing the work and promoting Alberta's product over seas rather then buddying up with trump. Personally I'm soooo over hearing about trump and the USA. Jmvho

Because it’s all about WINNING and “owning the libs”. They’d burn this country completely to the ground if they could walk around saying they made liberals cry. They treat politics and political ideology like it’s some team based athletic competition. JMO

Well, Tuberville did say about the tariffs, "No pain, no gain."

Trump really has convinced people (MAGA) to be excited about the incoming recession, the tariffs raising prices, the stock market crashing - it’s actually quite impressive how he’s managed to get them to all believe it’s a good thing. Or that it’s all part of “the plan” to make everyone “so much richer” No one is getting richer except Elon Musk and the oligarchs that are currently in the process of purchasing every government agency in the country. Oh and Trump himself. JMO.

We should not be naive about the tariffs threatened against the EU, Canada, and China.

It is in Putin's greatest interest to break up the EU and NATO. Everytime I hear about Trump's tariff threats, on EU, China, or Canada, all I can see Putin behind him pulling the strings.

He is cynically teasing "Peace" in Ukraine, but his terms will be to weaken the economy and the safety of Europe. Trump is just his little operative undermining the strength that Europe has.

Couldn't remember if this has been posted?

I don’t know why Ford and the others are even negotiating with them. They don’t intend to negotiate or remove tariffs. Trump is once again blathering on about removing the invisible border.

I am a Canadian, living in the UK, and to anyone wondering how people are feeling about things over here, I had a frightening encounter in the grocery store today. I was talking to my daughter, and a woman heard me, assumed I was American, and started to have a go at me until explained I was Canadian. I was shocked, especially as my autistic daughter didn't fully understand what was happening.
This whole situation is making everyone's life a nightmare. My heart hurts for Canada, and everyone whose life is being thrown into chaos, because some man-child wants all the toys.
Apologies for the rant, I might not live in Canada anymore, but my heart is still there

In reading the article, the impression I got was that she was getting into more trouble for bringing a hemp product across the Mexican border than having a Canadian passport.

However trying to enter the US with an expired Visa is going to get you into trouble. She already knew her US work Visa had expired and reports she sought legal advice. The advice sounds completely stupid as re-crossing an international border with the US does no automatically re-set a Visa, especially a work Visa.

I cannot imagine an immigration attorney giving such bad advice. I am skeptical that she had advise from an attorney, but perhaps got some on-line advice from a sketchy source.

before sitting down for a meeting with a Canadian delegation in Washington, U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick appeared for an interview on Fox News.

He made similar claims to his previous appearances, accusing Canada of being “not respectful” and “not thankful” for its economic relationship with the United States.

My father always said "you are not just given respect, you earn it".

And Canada is one of the most respectful and respected countries.

imo

This brought me, a Canadian to tears.
I hope this will warm the hearts of Canadians here. I also hope that Americans who watch it will understand, we are a country, we have a culture, we are a sovereign nation, and we want to keep it that way. We are like you in many ways and we are also distinct from you in many ways.
We have always been a friend. What has been happening has been a shock to us. We did not ask for this.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford left an hours-long meeting with U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and Canadian federal officials saying he feels more positive about the Canada-U.S. trading relationship after weeks of bad blood and heated rhetoric.

"We feel the temperature is being lowered. The temperature's coming down," Ford told reporters.
"This, I can honestly say, was the best meeting I've ever had coming down here. We want the best outcome for both countries. We're like a family — sometimes there's tension between families but that was an extremely productive meeting. I'm feeling positive," he said.
Ford says he had 'very, very productive' meeting with top Trump trade official in Washington
