This brought me, a Canadian to tears.
I hope this will warm the hearts of Canadians here. I also hope that Americans who watch it will understand, we are a country, we have a culture, we are a sovereign nation, and we want to keep it that way. We are like you in many ways and we are also distinct from you in many ways.
We have always been a friend. What has been happening has been a shock to us. We did not ask for this.

We are a sovereign nation. Love Mike Myers at 1m12s in your video - "elbows up!"

From Atlantic Canada, to British Columbia, to the Ice of the Northern Arctic ... and everything in between. We are strong, proud and free. United.

A Heritage Moment straight outta Hali, Nova Scotia. Keeping it bangin'. Elbows up.

Watching the press conference , Canada gov is ticked not just about the tariffs but about Trump's border line bs
I think Trump is entirely out of his mind (rabies??) to even suggest that the border with Canada should not exist. He is starting to sound like Putin.

These are not huge amounts.
And now they have tariffs applied to much of them, making it more expensive for Americans.

And why would Canada agree to even sell eggs to the US, who is stomping on their throat, trying to make them a 51st state? (reminder: after Trump declared our existing trade agreement very fair and fantastic!)

I suspect that the eggs sold to the US are not whole eggs in the shell that end up on the grocery shelf, but rather tankards of processed eggs for the food industry which relies on a steady supply of eggs. Eggs for that market would not reduce the available eggs for the Canadian consumer, because of Canadian egg supply management.

It seems to me that everything Trump has done since taking office will benefit Putin in some way.

First, take out Russia's--at least erstwhile--most powerful enemy, the USA. Trying to keep my examples brief, but there are many others.

1. Make its citizens sick (RFK Jr, cuts to disease research)
2. Make its citizens poor (lay off thousands of people, impose tariffs that will cause prices to skyrocket)
3. Make its citizens hungry (tariffs, deporting undocumented workers in the food industry)
4. Make its citizens less secure, especially against Russia (https://www.cnn.com/2025/03/02/politics/us-cyber-operations-russia-suspend/index.html)

Second, with the weakened USA well on its way to its knees, crash the world economy with tariffs that will impoverish remaining enemies in the west, so that they will be less likely to defend Ukraine and any other country he chooses to invade, like Poland.

Change my mind.

Add also... make its citizens less educated with cuts to education, research and development.

Can you get rabies from eating the dogs, eating the cats, eating the pets? Serious question.

I'm curious to see how the USA federal government adjusts to a new prime minister in Canada. It's a new, and potentially brief, era with a downsized cabinet, focus on growth in national/international transportation of goods, shift towards strengthening trade partners - especially Europe, and hopefully action towards restoring the existing CUSMA (also known as USMCA South of the border, and NAFTA pre-2020).

I don't think anyone expects the USA government to stop their war, but there is an escape hatch that does not require an admission of error: claim that the economic turmoil was only intended as a negotiating tool. No one will believe it, but it's an option where the USA government saves face while restoring economic stability in the USA.

Continuing with the war will result in Canada permanently altering global relationships that bypass the USA. At the same time, countries around the world will rally behind Canada in the name of protecting sovereignty.

By the end of the day, the USA government will either congratulate the new Canadian prime minister with optimism for a strong, respectful relationship going forward, or launch into a tirade about distinction without a difference.

I think it's important, regardless of America's behaviour the next few weeks, that we look into new trading partnerships around the globe, starting with the EU. The US has demonstrated that they are a volatile, hostile, and unreliable partner, and we need to stop putting most of our eggs into their basket.

Everyone in this town will soon be on EI (employment insurance), which means 55% of normal income, with a cap of $695 per month. Hopefully, the company will remain open - if only to ensure training for future opportunities.

"Mayor of Champlain Township Normand Riopel said Ivaco is one of the area's biggest employers. L'Orignal itself is home to only about 1,400 people.

"There's a lot of manufacturers, there's a lot of subcontractors that do deal with Ivaco. They will also feel the impact," he said.

"So it's not just in regards to a steel plant. It's also a whole community."

Canada has a trade relationship with the EU, it just hasn't been used much because of the former strength of CUSMA. That relationship needs to be developed and strengthened going forward.

'Unreliable' is the problem with the USA. The phrase: fool me once you're a fool, fool me twice I'm a fool applies here. The problem of unreliability will never go away, not even with a change in USA government. Each election would renew the possibility of the USA being unreliable again.

Awful.
One man's insanity and delusion destroying so much for so many. Don't believe any country in the world will trust America after this and it's all because of Donnie.

So far, the big winner in these trade wars is emerging as China. There are minor wins by Vietnam, India, Japan and South Korea as long as they do not get targeted for manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, or autos.

King Charles gives his Canadian attendant a sword as sovereignty threats intensify

Buckingham Palace does not publicly comment on the King's private audiences.

But a palace source told CBC News that there was a particularly warm exchange between Peters, a staunch monarchist originally from Prince Edward Island, and the sovereign during the sword presentation and the audience that followed.

The King, Peters and Gagné had a 30-minute discussion about topics of great concern in Canada and internationally, the palace source said.

The USA government is still dishonestly stating that the USA does not need anything from Canada, while insisting that Canada should cease to be a sovereign country. Why? If the USA doesn't need Canada's natural wealth, why has he said he will use economic force to steal Canada from Canadians?

It sounds like Joly had to scold Rubio to show respect for Canada while visiting Canada.

"Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly wrapped up the G7 meeting in La Malbaie, Que., on Friday with a stern message for U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio: hands off our country.
...

"There's no argument, there's no conversation about it, there's no need to talk about it," she said. "You're here, you respect us, you respect our sovereignty, you're in our country, you respect our people. Period."
...

"Canada only works as a state," Trump said at the White House. "We don't need anything they have. As a state it would be one of the great states … if you look at a map they drew an artificial line right through it … a straight artificial line … makes no sense."
...

Joly also said ... "Canada wants to foster new partnerships in the world, we want to be closer to Europe, we want to be closer to Britain," she said. "We need to diversify our economy."

That is deliberately irksome.

Again ... just keeping repeating lies until they are believed. A tried and tested Trump tactic throughout. Now being used by his press secretary, Musk, govt officials.

imo

“[Trump] used to tell me, ‘It doesn’t matter what you say, Stephanie — say it enough and people will believe you.’

Former Trump spokesperson shares insight into how and why he lies
Mary Kay the cosmetic lady trained her employees to repeat something over and over about a product and they will believe it .

I'm sure Trump antagonizes Mexico and Canada obeying Master Putin's instigation to force both countries to abandon north America's economic treaties and make them to join BRICS. Do you know who else is in BRICS? China. And Russia.

The "artificial line" comment threw me for a loop. I didn't know whether to be angry, or laugh at how imbecilic he is.

This is the same man who moved to the artificially outlined state of Florida to avoid paying taxes.

However, moving to Florida could be a huge tax saver. The president and first lady would be escaping an 8.2% state tax rate and a 3.87% city tax rate on income over $90,000, according to Joseph Callahan, attorney and president of Mackay, Caswell & Callahan, P.C. in New York.
Trump lives in the White House. So, why is he moving to Florida?
