Why doesn't the USA implement federal law governing equal education for everyone, then shut down the Federal Department of Education.

My guess is because the US has scrapped DEI entirely. As a general theme. If they don't want to "include" and have all people be equal they don't have to.

In fact, educationally, I think they might be encouraging learning establishments to NOT include and equalise.

Forty-five prominent US universities are now under federal investigation over their affiliations with The PhD Project, a nonprofit focused on diversifying business faculty and leaders. This investigation, launched by the US Education Department, is part of a broader campaign by the Trump administration to examine diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs in higher education.

..... The PhD Project, which has been active in helping Black and Latino students pursue business degrees.

Someone with cerebral palsy or autism should never have been under the same umbrella as someone who wants to change gender. Education rights for people with disabilities should have been protected by the constitution and law a long time ago. That it wasn't reveals large gaps in human rights in the USA.

I agree. I so strongly dislike what I am seeing happen.

If you are not a healthy white person, your chances of a 'good life' in the US are growing pretty slim.

Not long ago, I read about Trump telling his nephew that he should let his disabled son die.

Trump told nephew to let his disabled son die, then move to Florida, book says

From the link - both of these decisions will damage habitat for wildlife.

"Reinstating a program that makes the entire 1.56-million-acre Coastal Plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge available for oil and gas leasing.
...

"Revoking withdrawals along the Trans-Alaska Pipeline Corridor and Dalton Highway north of the Yukon River in order to convey these lands to State of Alaska."
Yeah, protecting wildlife and their habitat or protecting some of the most vulnerable people in society and ensuring they are treated equally in terms of education or healthcare are really really low on Donald's list.
The guy is callous beyond belief.
He is set on destroying the planet.
Alaska is stunning and unique and he wants to destroy it for money. Some things are worth more than money - once they're gone, that's it - there's no buying that diverse environment and the beautiful and some already endangered wildlife that live there back , no amount of new American jobs will be able to rebuild or replace it.
Its heartbreaking.
Dumbass - would probably sell his Nain to the Devil for a dollar.

Ffs, someone lock the numpty up please??

Canada will erect a series of “huge billboards” along highways in the U.S. as part of a campaign to sow public discontent with American tariffs, Foreign Affairs Minister Melanie Joly told CNN Friday.

The billboards will appear in 12 “red states,” the minister said, which include Florida, Nevada, Georgia, New Hampshire, Michigan and Ohio.
leave it to DJT to create a market for new ads....

GREED, GREED, GREED

Noting but f'ing corporate greed at full strength here.

Nothing about the impact of climate change, of the impact on the lives of the native Alaskans, nothing about preserving the ecology of the land and sea.

It's all $$$$$ for everyone around DJT.

Alaska would be better off in the hand of The Canadians. Alaska for the 12th Province !

If everything is a business, every decision is a cost benefit analysis. A lot of people want the govt to "run like a business" which means if you are not "profitable," you are not "valuable."

Eugh I hope my bc premier and our dept of wildlife are watching what they are doing so we don't end up cleaning up their environmental accidents

Not sure that holds true though. A person of colour, or an immigrant (for example) can be equally as profitable, if given the chance.

I see it more as white 'Christian' nationalism taking hold.

Where are all those Hollywood 'save the planet' types who protested oil extraction in Northern Alberta??? This guy (see image) is a clown, but even that is better than nothing regarding destruction of habitat in Alaska for oil profit.

We understand that the USA government wants to prove that they don't need Alberta oil, but their methods leave much to be desired.

"I've never experienced something so first-hand that was so dramatic. You see the fragility of nature and how easily things can be completely transformed with just a few degrees difference. It's terrifying, and it's what people are talking about all over the world. And it's simply just going to get worse," said DiCaprio.

"We were in Calgary and the locals were saying, 'This has never happened in our province ever.' We would come and there would be eight feet of snow, and then all of a sudden a warm gust of wind would come."

I am not defending the "run govt as a business" but it is what we hear during elections from certain factions and there have been reforms at times trying to encourage schooling or work in exchange for eligibility for benefits.

Shipping or overland transport should be strictly regulated because it's clear that Alaska's only priority is money in their pockets. They will not clean up or manage any mess they make in Canada. The USA government cannot be trusted.

Yes, I get that. But for a country that is so big on "rights", it seems that a lot of rights are being stripped.

Let's face it. The US is no longer a Democracy. imo

The values of freedom, respect for human rights and the principle of holding periodic and genuine elections by universal suffrage are essential elements of democracy. In turn, democracy provides an environment for the protection and effective realization of human rights.

I guess that answers any question Canadians had about the USA government respecting the rights of Indigenous Peoples. The answer is a clear no - they have no rights according to the USA.

It is really, really sad. :(

Maybe this will take away their "need" for Ukraine minerals, Greenland minerals, Canadian assets, and Panama passageway?
Destroying their own country.

Elon has probably prevented them posting about it on X, along with removing all negative Trump talk and so on.
