USA needs to keep their drugs out of Canada . They are the ones with a problem.

CBSA said officers at the Coutts border crossing seized 108 kilograms of cocaine on March 8, 2025, from a commercial vehicle that originated in the U.S.The seizure and arrest came less than a month after CBSA announced details of two other large drug busts that resulted in the seizure of almost $3 million worth of cocaine and methamphetamine that were also allegedly being smuggled into Canada from the U.S. at the same border crossing.

I have a hard time believing that Trump would want to be a part of something where he can't boss everyone else around. He's interested in leadership, not membership. He also fancies the idea of being the American royalty. Inviting USA into the Commonwealth (honorary membership or not) in the present situation is an insult to existing members, IMO.
Clearly he would expect to be in charge of it and boss people around.

I traced back to the first report. The Independent (Link) said it came from the Daily Mail.

This is the Daily Mail article (below). The journalist apparently got it from "a member". All very vague and the DM frequently lacks credibility, in general. imo

The journalist (Richard Eden) touts himself as writing about the Royals for 20 years and regularly appearing on Palace Confidential. You can click on his name to go to his bio.

I personally think that if an invitation is not extended, and Trump is upset about that .... oh well, too bad. Not seeing any Commonwealth country caring about that. imo

It is just very sad what Trump is doing to his own people and to the Ukraine people. The rest of us will work our way around his broken trade deals and the rest of the garbage.

The King invited Trump for a visit at Dumfries House or Balmoral. The King invited Zelenskyy and Trudeau to Sandringham. It's not an invitation to Buckingham Palace, so it sounds more like a friendship invitation than a formal event held for foreign dignitaries.

Until there is a named official as source, then the Commonwealth claim should probably be viewed as rumour. The Royal Family and the Commonwealth do not release information through tabloids.

I suppose that if King Charles was pushed into a corner, the best response is that he will consider it. The Royal Family and Commonwealth are known for working methodically and slowly. It could take four years to work out the nature of an "associate membership" of the Commonwealth. By then, there will either be a new USA president, or a dictatorship.

It's impossible that the invitation will be made such that it can be accepted and acted on without a long formal process.

"There is no precedent for “associate membership” of the Commonwealth. All 56 countries that are currently part of the “family of nations” are full members described as “independent and equal”.
...

Countries must also comply with the Commonwealth’s “fundamental values, principles, and priorities” including being a democracy, having transparent public accounts, protection of human rights, and acknowledge the King as Head of the Commonwealth."

It's quite funny when you think about it. The USA has made a noisy fuss about Canada's South border and drugs for months. The claim is always that the USA is doing their job, Canada is failing. For the past few months, it is the USA that fails again and again. On several occasions Canada has discovered drugs at the border, sometimes a truckload that originated in Mexico.

The USA cannot keep their borders safe, so they blame foreign countries for their problems. People in the USA are victims of Mexico and Canada ... again, not their own sloppy border security. Those border guards sure are good at finding eggs!

USA border security is detaining Europeans attending conferences, and on tourist visas. It sounds like the USA is increasingly dangerous for people from Canada and the EU. Although I have no interest in traveling to the USA, if I did, I would buy a new cell phone with a new SIM card that holds no information beyond scenery photos and family phone numbers. Cell phones contain so much information that can be turned inside-out to mean something unintended.

"Germany this week updated its travel advisory for the U.S. to emphasize that a visa or entry waiver does not guarantee entry for its citizens after several Germans were detained at the border recently.

An American woman and her German fiancé spoke about their travel ordeal after driving back from Mexico on February 18, 22 days into Sielaff's 90-day tourist permit. U.S. border agents handcuffed Lennon Tyler, a U.S. citizen, and chained her to a bench, while her fiancé, Lucas Sielaff, was accused of violating the rules of his 90-day U.S. tourist permit, the couple said.
...

Authorities later handcuffed and shackled Sielaff and sent him to a crowded U.S. immigration detention centre. Sielaff said he was given a full-body search and ordered to hand over his cellphone and belongings. He was put in a holding cell ... before being transferred to the Otay Mesa Detention Center in San Diego.

Two weeks later, he was told to get a direct flight to Germany and submit a confirmation number. Following a frantic call from Sielaff, Tyler bought a ticket for $2,744. Her fiancé flew back March 5."
...

A French scientist was also recently denied entry into the United States for a conference, under disputed circumstances.

"I learned with concern that a French researcher on assignment for the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) who was travelling to a conference near Houston was denied entry to the United States before being expelled," Minister for Higher Education and Research Philippe Baptiste said in a statement to Agence France-Presse.

Trump tries to justify the aggressive stance toward the US neighbors (and beyond) by accusing them of unfair and harmful practices, or simply of being "nasty" to him. It doesn't matter if there is any truth to the accusations, as long as enough of his supporters are distracted from the real problems that he is not working on. Like his role model Putin, he's being fueled by his megalomaniac appetite. "Nice vast country you got there. It has always meant to be ours."

I think one of the most powerful untruth from the USA government is that the USA subsides Canada in the amount of $200 billion annually. The USA does not subsidize Canada for even $1.00, but people in the USA are so uninformed that they don't recognize propaganda.

The second most powerful untruth regards tariffs. Both the USA and Canada have supply management of some goods. Again, propaganda is used to mislead people. Few know that over quota of tobacco exports from the USA to Canada has a 350% tariff.

Both untruths (propaganda) are intentionally designed to convince USA people that they are victims of Canada, therefore they must lash out at Canada and endorse the Trade War. Those same people are more accepting of hardship during the war because they believe that "punishment" of Canada is essential to their economic prosperity.

I think there lies the problem. Trying to put together people who can not be together.

Trump dislikes Zelinskiy personally. It is about the elections and Hunter Biden. Zelinskiy is a seasoned politician. If you are disliked by someone, don’t spend the time trying to change the person’s mind.

With Macron, I suspect there is some deep misunderstanding by Trump coming from the fact that he can’t read Macron, who, indeed, comes across as somewhat enigmatic, but a very seasoned politician.

That is the problem, everything is personal.

Yesterday I read a post which was surprisingly reasonable.

The person said, if you are unhappy with the tariffs, do the opposite: “you low mine, I low yours”. And negotiate from that angle.

Macron has an interesting history. He is a banker, right? I trust people in finances because they can weigh pros and cons. Although suddenly becoming the most seasoned politician in the EU no doubt is weighing heavily on him.

Fox News is actively spreading this propaganda, repeating it in every interview with members of Trump's administration. He makes is clear that his end goal is annexation via economic blackmail.

From the second link: Organizers indicated that more events are planned, including one in Lansing in two weeks.

How did they manage to make scrambled eggs out of such different aspects: tariffs, education, illegal migrants, transgender issues? And again, a strange team, half of which are politicians, half, amateurs. How?

His former national security adviser John Bolton stated on CNN multiple times that everything was personal to Trump. Trump thinks Putin is his friend.

Everyone who has dealt with a conflict between two other parties should know that the first step is de-escalation. That's tricky when one party enjoys the conflict, so each attempt to de-escalate is viewed as weakness and an opportunity to escalate.

When Doug Ford backed down with 25% surcharge on electricity exports, that was a step towards de-escalation. The USA gov't responded by returning to the original offensive position, but did not de-escalate. On April 2, the USA gov't intends to escalate the situation again.

Government propaganda is dangerous. Hitler used propaganda as a powerful tool to unify the population against specific, innocent targets. The ensuing violence against those targets is shocking. The USA gov't is effectively using propaganda to coerce the population to give up rights, jobs, economic security, and to accept persecution of officials for their professional statements and positions.

I guess fox news wants to be the voice of a future dictatorship.
