I love the part where Vance suggests that they shouldn't do it because it would mostly benefit the freeloading Europeans.

What a damn mess. You really couldn't make this stuff up. Well you could, but it would seem too unbelievable.

This is utterly despicable that Trump is trying to insert himself into Canadian politics
The entire election has shifted from two parties offering Canadians what they think is best for the economy, to two political parties moving closer to the centre to protect Canada from the USA. It's might be the best thing that happened to Canada because it forced unification while demanding less reliance on the USA.

No. It's a stunt for the press to cover while they do something worse. Probably make Greenland the oppresser. You know the same old cry about being disrespected and taken advantage of.

At least Melania stays out of it. She can hide in her gilded world and get her nails done.

They're probably going there to offer some very big bribes to any local leaders willing to go along with their plans.

If the USA can take control of Greenland, then using Alaska and Greenland as boundaries, the USA has the ability (in the future) to interfere with exports from Canada to the EU.

The USA wants control of Canada's Arctic border for economic reasons.

This is the Canada / USA trade war discussion (tariffs and annexation).

Please stay on topic without everything Trumpish.

Thanks !!

This dog-sled nonsense is such a pathetic excuse to go to Greenland. Unless Usha Vance has a long history of attending and sponsoring dog-sled races in Alaska, citing dog-sled is the reason for landing in Greenland is as transparent as it gets.

"It is unclear whether the US has ever sent a delegation to the dogsled race, much less a group featuring a second lady."

Ushe Vance is very smart but she is originally from Southern CA. I do not think she is a fan of the arctic, but of all the Trump administration, she may actually be the most polite and diplomatic, IMO.

Vance was born in San Diego County, California, to Telugu Indian immigrant parents and raised in an upper-middle-class suburb. She graduated from Yale University with a bachelor's degree in history and from Yale Law School with a Juris Doctor degree.

She can't be that bright if she's allowing herself to be used to upset Greenland, while pretending that she is suddenly interested in dog sled races. There are dog sled races in Alaska. If that's her passion, she should have a long history of sponsoring and attending those events.

She's playing mind games with Greenland, claiming that the USA has a long history of respect for Greenland. That is absolutely not true. That USA has been threatening Greenland sovereignty for years. Everyone knows that the USA has threatened to use military force to take Greenland, and that Trump recently announced to Congress that he will take Greenland one way or another. It's so rude.

One reassuring thought is, should the USA plan to invade Canada, most likely it will be leaked to the Journal de Quebec and the Toronto Globe and Mail while it's still on the drawing board, along with the normal fights and carping taking place among the American 'security' folks... plenty of lead time to gather round..

( what a ridiculous bunch of amateurs this little Marco and Pete combo is.. )

Yeah I feel really awful for them it would be awful to see them lose their livelyhood because of a fool.weve had a good relationship with them. We would get parcels shipped there to pick up. A lot have duo citizenships . Trump's mess just keeps getting messier. He's destroying working relationships ,alliances ,just making the world a uglier place for nothing but greed and drama . Jmvho

With all going on between USA and Canada was it really a accident. It's never happened before that I know of

SEATTLE — The operator of a ferry service between Vancouver Island and Washington state says it’s sorry for “unintentionally” raising the Canadian flag upside down as it entered Victoria harbour on Sunday

My Costco has those lovely hot-house grown tomatoes from BC, Canada. They seem to be selling better than the vine-grown tomatoes from Mexico.

I can't see it being intentional, the ferry entirely depends on Americans and Canadians wanting to visit each other's country.

It's not part of her contract. This time around she negotiated skipping most of the first lady's duties. Trump is busy with Elon and won't notice her absence.

He’s tucked up in bed between Elon and Vlad, ain’t no room for Mel as well.

Interesting

Japan has been slowly and quietly selling US Treasury securities (bonds) and converting them to gold. This started with Canada, but Norway and Germany have also been doing it quietly.

US Treasuries are still significant holdings for numerous countries, but should there be more continued selling for a gold cashout, the value of the $USD will drop.

Bears watching. We are still 9 long days away from big noisy tariff shouting. One should be careful what one shouts and threatens about international tariffs, because whether they are fulfilled or not, other countries have to take action to secure their markets and their currency before the uncertainty and trade chaos starts. Especially if faith in financial moves is being questioned or lost.
