My Costco has those lovely hot-house grown tomatoes from BC, Canada. They seem to be selling better than the vine-grown tomatoes from Mexico.
They're apparently an innovation originally brought from the Netherlands by Dutch farmers who immigrated post WWII, especially to the huge flat delta around Vancouver. I believe it's primarily Canadian companies who have expanded their operations into Mexico.

Don't forget me!!
My congressional senators and house rep are either not responding, responding in a condescending letter misrepresenting the vote he cast or refusing to meet in town halls with constituents aka running scared .

I think they are expecting Elon to fund their reelection.
Hugs to you Kudzuu!! 🤗
I appreciate you fighting for democracy!

I sent a tersely worded email to Schumer when he said he was going to betray us with the Continuing Resolution. It didn't work. He did it anyway.

I don't know anything about "Nature Fresh" so I won't judge them.

But they are based in SW Ontario, where we have a lot of right-wing Christian Dutch farmers. These regions vote right-wing and don't seem to accept non-believers or people who are different from them. They often send their children to private religious-based schools rather than public schools. (for Americans reading here, Canadian public schools are much better funded than those in the US. We pride ourselves on providing public education for all. That's why homeschooling and private schooling is very infrequent.)
These are just my observations and I might be off-base.

ETA: To be clear, I have a number of Dutch-Canadian friends. And I don't want people to presume that they are all like I described. There are many good 'salt of the earth' people who don't judge others. My comment related to a large swath of right wing farmers....not everyone.

She can't be that bright if she's allowing herself to be used to upset Greenland, while pretending that she is suddenly interested in dog sled races. There are dog sled races in Alaska. If that's her passion, she should have a long history of sponsoring and attending those events.

She's playing mind games with Greenland, claiming that the USA has a long history of respect for Greenland. That is absolutely not true. That USA has been threatening Greenland sovereignty for years. Everyone knows that the USA has threatened to use military force to take Greenland, and that Trump recently announced to Congress that he will take Greenland one way or another. It's so rude.

the seal stew will be a hard sell:

At the 2024 Republican National Convention, she said her husband has "adapted to my vegetarian diet and learned to cook food from my mother—Indian food."

Canada should not be too concerned about US attacks.

The US Dept of Defense, National Security Advisor, Vice President, Director of National Intelligence, Secretary of State all wage war now with internet chats and emojis.

Plus, VP and Hegseth had a mean girl exchange about how much they hate those Europeans.

This is like a paintball group dissing the team on the next weekend's match.

I think if Canada won't have much to worry about.

This isn't specifically about the tariff war, but it is about the USA gov't leaning farther into removing the freedom of speech, silencing protesters, and taking away the rights of ordinary citizens. Actions like this will eventually silence everyone who objects to gov't decisions, including tariffs and war.

It always starts small. When one violation of rights is ignored, it spreads.

"Yunseo Chung, 21, has lived in the U.S. since she was seven, but her legal team was informed two weeks ago that her lawful permanent resident status was being revoked, according to the court filing in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.

The Trump administration says her U.S. presence hinders its foreign policy agenda, according to the lawsuit. Chung has not yet been arrested. Immigration agents have made multiple visits to her residences looking for her.

Actions against Chung "form part of a larger pattern of attempted U.S. government repression of constitutionally protected protest activity and other forms of speech," Monday's lawsuit said."

Here's another USA student who fled to Canada a few days ago, falsely accused of protesting. Start by silencing students, does everyone follow in silence?

Freedom of speech and the right to protest has always been more "free" in the USA than in Canada. Canada has freedom of expression, which basically means we can say what we wants as long as we respect the autonomy of others. That caveat doesn't exist in the USA.

Students believe that they have the right to protest on campus. It's almost a right of passage for students - use their voice in a group to express opinions together. Vietnam protests. What's happening in the USA today is that students accused of involvement in a protest several months ago, believing that it was a legal right to do so, are being arrested and detained for exercising that right.

As the USA gov't becomes more authoritarian, protesters are learning that speaking up can result in arrest. I wonder how long it will take for students and the general population to be afraid to protest.

When the USA declares war on Greenland, as it has with Canada, will anyone protest?

Every night on MSNBC Rachell Maddow shows protests all over the US. Some are against DOGE/Musk, Tariffs, Veterans Administration and social security messes, privatizing the Post Office, Ukraine, Tesla, etc etc. It’s interesting to me as a senior citizen that the vast majority of demonstrators seem to be seniors. The same at town halls. It will be interesting to see what is going to happen when the government turns on these protesters. It didn’t stop the Vietnam War protests (also my generation), so I have a feeling it won’t stop the old folks now. :)

Canada Joins Finland, UK, Denmark, Germany in Issuing New Travel Warnings for US: What You Need to Know

[...]

Ottawa has issued an important update, stating that starting immediately, all visitors staying in the U.S. for more than a month must now register with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). This requirement also applies to other foreign nationals traveling to the U.S.

[...]

Canada has joined Finland, the United Kingdom, Denmark, and Germany in issuing important travel warnings for citizens planning to visit the United States.

[...]

With concerns growing over the potential for more stringent border controls, Canadian travelers are being urged to carefully follow U.S. entry rules to avoid serious consequences.

[...]

Recently, travelers from Canada and other European countries have been detained or deported upon arrival in the U.S., raising alarm among both government officials and citizens. Canada, alongside several European nations, has issued travel warnings urging citizens to be aware of the risks when traveling to the U.S.

[...]

Stricter U.S. Immigration Policies and Their Global Impact

The heightened travel warnings also reflect a broader concern regarding the Trump administration’s crackdown on immigration. The U.S. government has recently suspended policies that allowed transgender, intersex, and nonbinary individuals to update their gender identity on passports, further complicating travel for some international visitors.

[...]

Economic Impact of the U.S. Travel Warnings

Canada’s travel warning comes at a significant economic cost. Canadian tourists traditionally contribute more than $20 billion annually to the U.S. economy. The new advisory is expected to further disrupt tourism from Canada, with projections showing that 2 million fewer Canadian visitors will travel to the U.S. this year. This decrease in tourism spending could result in a loss of $2.1 billion and cause 14,000 job losses across industries that rely on Canadian visitors, including airlines, hotels, restaurants, and retailers.

With a significant portion of U.S. tourism reliant on Canadian visitors, this trend is already affecting businesses that cater to international tourists. As travel cancellations rise in response to these stricter regulations, U.S. businesses, especially in regions close to the Canadian border, are experiencing a decline in bookings and sales.

I'm looking for any American here who supports this slamming of allies.
Anyone?
I don't believe there is any justification to threaten close allies on no basis whatsoever.
JMO.
But I can't agree with unjustified bullying.
Absolutely disgusted, angry and terrified!! His first 4 years in office were horrendous, difficult to live among anyone who voted this criminal mess into office

The Netherlands has just issued travel warnings for the US too - specifically for LHBTI people

and a previous article says the Dutch already booked 20% less trips to the US in january 2025 (compared to january 2024)

"The figures for February are not there yet, but we expect that in that month far fewer people booked a trip to the US."

Radstake cites the high dollar exchange rate as a possible explanation, but doesn't think that's the whole story. "We don't ask people why they don't book to the U.S., but in a general sense, travelers don't like uncertainty. If it's uncertain whether you will get into the country, that doesn't help sell a trip."

That uncertainty is not unjustified. In recent weeks, for example, some German tourists were detained at the U.S. border.

Any country importing Venezualan oil directly or indirectly will be facing tariffs
Does this mean Donald will tariff himself? The states buy oil from Venezuela.

That's quite a stretch for Trump. He can't impose a tariff on a product (crude oil) that isn't imported to the US.

His followers are dumb enough to think he can, though.

Most of his Executive Orders aren't valid. They aren't worth the paper they're printed on.
