We should be looking into how to have a recall election.
OMG, the contenders who are alive, too. Al Gore, Mitt Romney…Ted Cruz suddenly looks like an attractive option, lol!

So. I don’t know what it means when they hire new people, but what do they do with already existing DEI people? For example, one of •now actively persecuted minorities• is a talented programmer already employed by a Dutch company. Are they going to fire a person for being DEI? Or is it not required? Yet?

The difference might be between “ceasing to be politically correct” and targeting people.
for now it’s only about hiring policies, thankfully, although it’s already awful imo. and it’s worrying to think where it could lead. i wouldn’t have imagined a foreign leader could have this kind of influence and that it seems like dutch businesses will comply. at what point will businesses say no, and choose what’s right over what’s profitable? i imagine maybe not until consumers decide to “vote against it” with their money

in other news, did we already discuss japan, south korea and china agreeing to work together as a reaction to trumps looning tariffs?

As long as they don’t betray smaller nations in the area…

Yes.!! that is roughly, China (Population 1.2 Billion...) South Korea ( 51.6 million , ) and Japan, 126 million) all folks with money in the pocket and skills to share, and stuff to make and stuff to buy....

It actually makes a lot of sense. Keeping much of their trading among neighbours. Transporting less goods through controversial canals, and avoiding paying ridiculous tariffs. Putting less of a transportation footprint on their goods.

Look at how geographically close they are.

China is very good at "soft power". When disasters occur in Pacific islands, or when they need help, Australia tries to rush aid to them to try to avoid their need for aid from China. To try to keep the islands in the fold and not have them be obligated to China in any way.

The US is completely relinquishing its "soft power". It has left the door wide open for China to step in.

The Lowy Institute's updated 2023 Pacific Aid Map has revealed a shift in the landscape of foreign aid in the Pacific region, with China reducing overall support to the region whilst increasing the politically targeted nature of its Aid.

Australia, by contrast, has taken a prominent position across the Pacific aid landscape.

2023 Pacific Aid Map Reveals Chinese Aid in Retreat

Australia is the ideal candidate to aid the freely associated states to prevent a Chinese fill-in. China is the second-largest provider of aid to the Pacific after Australia.

Australia can take USAID’s place in the Pacific islands

Going to war, along with the economic havoc he’s wreaking, is perhaps part of Trump’s plan to reign for more than two terms. The depression and WWII kept FDR in office for four terms to provide “stability,” which is what led to the two term amendment. It would be just like Trump to manufacture these reasons to insist on a third term. Assuming there are even elections in 2028.

( a sad tale of chickens coming home to roost ) ......

There’s Richard’s Hotel. Richard’s Motel. Richard’s Pet Friendly Motel. Richard’s Motel Studios — all strung along South Federal Highway just south of Young Circle. But, this season, business is off, and there are fewer Canadians spending money in South Florida. The Trump administration’s mercurial policies are creating tension and uncertainty. Threats of tariffs on Canadian products, talk of new registration requirements for Canadian travelers, or even annexing the country as the 51st state, are making many Canadians reevaluate if they want to spend their money in the United States.

“I got one guy that had a $1,000 deposit. You know for sure he’s coming. He gave up his deposit,” Clavet said. “And it’s not like he decided not to come. But, just to protest, he said he was going to Cuba instead.”

After years of growth, Canadian tourism in Florida is reversing course, tourism officials say and initial data indicate. Passenger arrivals from Canada at Miami International Airport are down this year, three weeks into March. Demand for flights from Canada to South Florida has fallen about 20% compared to a year ago.

This year, something is out of the ordinary.''''''

Whoda thunk, ey??

Now IIUC the administration is saying the deportation of an apparent MS-13 member was an error.

See CNN online April 1, 2025 article by Priscilla Alvarez entitled ‘Trump administration concedes Maryland father from El Salvador was mistakenly deported and sent to mega prison’:

Days earlier the administration led with the arrest of the individual in their Ten Wins list.

See The White House March 28, 2025 published ‘WEEK TEN WINS: President Trump Fuels America’s Golden Age’:

The lead item cited in that White House release:

President Trump’s effort to secure the homeland continued in force.
  • The Trump Administration directed the successful apprehension of a key MS-13 gang leader — an illegal immigrant living in Virginia and operating as one of the top three MS-13 leaders in the U.S.
And IMO this is not attributed to any April 1 happenings. That this is occurring on a national and international stage…… SMH. MOO.

And Trump is not going to ask for his return because ..... "Trump’s ‘primacy in foreign affairs’ outweighs the interests of Garcia Abrego and his family". Link

Somehow at the end of this 4 year presidency term, I don't think there'll be the current 2 men, I think there'll only be 1 left standing. And I don't know if it will be Trump or Musk.

Republicans who like what Trump is doing think that it's funny to "taunt" Canada, as they put it. They believe and echo Trump's claim that tariffs cause them short-term pain, but then everything will be better. They view tariffs as nothing more than an effective tool to manage the enormous USA deficit.

The fact that Republicans view continuous taunting as a joke speaks volumes. It means to anger, wound, provoke, insult sneer, jeer, scoff. This alone defines the difference between Canadians and people South of the border. I have never met a Canadian who spends months laughing at the same "joke" that is nothing more than provoking someone day after day. My first thought is that they are like trained monkeys who enjoyed taunting Democrats for years, and have now turned that same need-to-bully on Canadians.

They clearly don't understand tariffs, and will be shocked when the impact is not short-term. They believe that a tax on foreign-made products will reduce the $36 trillion debt. The incorrectly believe that tariffs result in other countries paying a tax to them, rather than the tariff tax being added to products they purchase.

"The smile begins to form on Joseph Redmon's face, and there's even a little chuckle, at the first mention of Canada becoming the 51st state.

"It's a joke," he says over and over. "He's doing that just to get under people's skin and to make them upset, that's just sort of his mantra," Redmon says. He's aware that Canadians are largely opposed to annexation, and from a practical standpoint, he thinks it would hurt Republicans in the long run, given Canada's relatively left-leaning politics.
...

But on Trump's tariff plan, many of the voters who spoke with CBC News believed that it will cause, at the very least, some short-term economic instability. "It's going to have an impact on employment and jobs, but sometimes to fix what's really broken, you've got to put a little pain in it," said John Clauer, another retiree who voted for Trump.
...

Clauer, who is deeply concerned about the U.S. deficit, supports Trump's efforts to rein in spending. He views tariffs as another tool at Trump's disposal. "I just think that people in other countries need to recognize the position that we're in. And understand that his tariffs are being used to try to rebuild the United States economy, and to bring the deficit under control.""I just think that people in other countries need to recognize the position that we're in. And understand that his tariffs are being used to try to rebuild the United States economy, and to bring the deficit under control."

"As of March 5th, 2025, USA gross national debt is $36.22 trillion. Debt held by the public is $28.9 trillion. Intergovernmental debt is $7.31 trillion."

Important advice for anyone travelling to the USA from any country in the world. The USA wants you to be afraid. Intimidation is their policy. If they are Republicans, taunting makes them feel good.
  • travel by plane, not by car
  • clear customs on Canadian soil at the airport. If there are difficulties, simply leave the airport
  • travel with a burner phone, leave your phone at home. Border security can download everything on your electronic devices
  • beware that "privacy" is completely different in the USA; far less privacy
  • if you have been critical of Trump on social media, it's not a good idea to go to the USA
"There's been much more heightened security and heightened investigations at the border," she said. "There is just tremendous fear, fear for numerous reasons. First of all, there's fear of getting detained. There's fear of not getting into the United States." ... "There's a fear, but no one's exactly sure what they're afraid of. They don't know what they've done wrong. There's a sense of guilt, but 'I don't know what I did.'"
...

Segal recommends Canadian travellers to the U.S. leave from an airport where they can clear U.S. customs while in Canada. She said going through "preclearance" affords Canadians rights while they are on Canadian soil. ... And as long as you tell them that you're just not interested and give them a good reason, you can leave. And they cannot keep you. You're not on U.S. soil."
...

U.S. customs officials can look through a mobile phone, check comments made on social media and look through a laptop, she said. They can also take devices or download all of their contents, she added. "To protect yourself, more so now than ever, I think it is a great idea to take a burner phone, to not take your technology, to not take anything on your technology that you would be afraid of any government entity knowing or having," she said.

"The concept of privacy is completely different when you enter the United States."
...

Jain said he is advising his clients who have been critical of the Trump administration on social media - it's not a good idea to go the U.S.

Today, there will a pointless senate vote challenging Trump use of the Emergency Powers Act, based on fentanyl, that justified the use of illegal tariffs (violation of trade agreement). Republican senators believe that tariffs, although potentially unjustified, are a negotiating tool - even though there is no negotiation in play at this time. They cannot possibly know what they are negotiating for.

"Senate Democrats are putting Republican support for some of Donald Trump's tariff plans to the test by forcing a vote to nullify the emergency declaration that underpins the levies on Canada.
...

Kaine's resolution — expected to go to a vote as early as Tuesday — challenges Trump's use of the International Economic Emergency Powers Act, also called IEEPA, to declare an emergency at the northern border in order to hit Canada with tariffs. The IEEPA includes a provision allowing any senator to force a vote to block emergency powers.
...

"If we get a good solid bipartisan vote in the Senate, that's going to be a powerful message to Donald Trump and his economic advisers that you are playing with fire — don't raise taxes on Americans on their groceries and building supplies at a time when the economy is softening," he said. ... To be successful in the Senate, Kaine's measure would need the support of all 46 of his Democratic colleagues in the chamber, as well as four Republicans.
...

That means it is highly likely that Trump won't be prevented legislatively from pursuing his tariff agenda with Canada, but if Kaine's resolution succeeds, it would still be a symbolic rebuke to the president. ... Most Republicans in the Senate have signalled they aren't exactly fans of tariffs, but argued that Trump is using them as a negotiating tool.
...

They now see a 35 per cent chance of a U.S. recession in the next year, up from an earlier forecast of 20 per cent, "reflecting our lower growth forecast, falling confidence, and statements from White House officials indicating willingness to tolerate economic pain," according to Goldman Sachs economist David Mericle."
