I believe her mother was attempting to get her help when all of this transpired. She was told to try the "tough love" approach. What will she say? Probably that she did the best she knew how to do.

When does a parent quit being held responsible for a child's behavior?
Casey is 22 years old, an adult and supposedly capable of being responsible for her own actions.

As a grand parent, if I saw my daughter or son engaged in behavior that I felt would endanger their child, I would take action.

I think Casey has all of the symptoms of Bipolar I. This could be her first bout and maybe she has only experienced the manic side thus far.

I too think she has all the symptoms of Bipolar I. No, I'm not in the medical field. Let's just say, I know from experience. We have probably all seen the manic stage. The Grandiosity, promiscuity, shopping sprees, alcohol or drug abuse, abnormal sleeping habits. She was known to be up all hours of the night. I understand a person can be both, because Sociopathy is a personality disorder. Which means that unlike bipolar it is a product of child rearing and personal choice. Bipolar is a brain imbalance.

No company, no phone calls, isolation and not buying anything with her new found money. I think it shows signs of depression.

My thought too. Add to that three hour visit with clergy last Friday.

I've takencare of psychotic patients many years back. It was not my favorite specialty I have to say.
But you're certainly right. Casey Anthony is not mentally ill or suffering from any type psychosis.
I believe her problem is from a deep, dark place deep within her. She has always been used to doing as she pleased, hurting others along the way, feeling quite entitled and having no remorse or feelings of regret.
She was entiltled to do as she d*^n well wanted. Any time, any way.
She is a morally bankrupt human.

I bet is wasn't- it's a scary thing to see, hell, it's a scary thing to be!

I nurse is a far cry from a diagnostician in my opinion.

Once you have seen Psychosis you will not forget what it looks like, I promise you!

We don't know whether or not KC has been seen by a shrink or psychologist in the past. We do know that CA sought advice.

Her parents maintain she has never been treated for a mental health condition.

IIRC, in one of the very first interviews CA was asked if KC had ever undergone a mental evaluation or received therapy and she said an emphatic "NO."

Well, the diagnosticians who have written or spoken about the case are all saying "sociopath."

Now, a nurse may not be legally empowered to diagnose. But, a nurse can sure as he77 spot something very wrong with a patient. S/He can pretty well nail down the symptoms in the report that s/he puts in the case, or the referral s/he makes. S/he would be very knowledgeable about the specific behaviors from treating, medicating, and observing for 8-12 hours per shift.

And, being KC's mother would make her DOUBLY effective one would think.

CA called it correctly then way back before any of this happened when she told Ryan P that KC was a "Sociopath."

That was part of my point. I don't know how JB can use mental illness as a defense when her own mother says she has never been treated.

I do agree with the poster who said KC not spending any money for anything might be a sign she is depressed. It is hard to imagine she has given up but maybe she has. I would have thought she might have at least bought a coke or a snack. Even the fact that she hasn't bought any decent hair care products or other personal care products seem s very out of character for her.

Well we think that, but it doesn't mean the defense won't try post partum as a last ditch effort, if they do indeed find the body.

And any shrink could shoot it down as easily as I did in my post and I'm not even a shrink, just a person who's been psychotic! There are diagnostic criteria for mental illnesses and she meets none of them for psychosis!

Didn't see your post before I posted mine. Same thought!

I sure wouldn't trust a nurse to tell me what my health problems may or may not be.

It was a nurse (APRN) who finally gave me the proper diagnosis after years of mis-diagnosis and a nurse who found the proper cocktail of meds for what turned out to be Bipolar. It was a nurse who saved my life! You don't give nurses enough credit!

I too agree that she looks scared. I don't see anger, I don't see "wtf". Fear. Fear. Fear.

yeah, I agree. She looks like she knows this is the end of the road.

And why does that not surprise me? IMO, KC has never been called on the carpet for anything she's done wrong. Her parents allowed her to grow up lying and stealing, covering up her little indiscretions until she turned into the mom-ster she is today. And Caylee's death is the result.

http://blogs.discovery.com/criminal_report/2008/08/criminal-profil.html

".... Because she cannot explain her lies, she will blame everyone else. She will want to flee. She may even reach for religion as a means to cope, and depression is likely to follow. Then police will be able to talk with her to find out what she really knows. Detectives will be able to get information from her. The key for officers is to know her patterns and approach her the right way. If they key in on her personality, they will be able to get her to tell what really happened."

Are you aware that Borderline personality disorder has many of the same symptoms as Bipolar? That many psychiatrists misdiagnose one for the other? But there are also differences and simply because a person has some symptoms that are like the symptoms of another illness does not mean they have that illness.

  • #618
And why could'nt you think that?

Because other than stealing, lying, her sexual behavior, and one time her saying she hadn't slept in 4 days- there have been no other Bipolar-like "behaviors" tied to Casey. There is a hell of a lot more to Bipolar then that. Besides that, as I have said before I cannot see a person with Bipolar killing their child and being able to live with themselves afterwords.

Other than that, she has CLASSIC symptoms of the personality disordered... fitting almost every tiny criteria there is.

Yes, I know. But, bipolar disorder tends to run in families and borderline personality disorder is is a product of child rearing and personal choice. Cindy could be the poster child for Bipolar disorder so I was saying that it is quite possible that Casey could also suffer from the disorder. It was just my opinion.

Oh, I agree she is probably depressed NOW, absolutely! I think she knows she's screwed and she's pretty busy attempting to locate her soul at the moment.

I just don't think she was depressed or psychotic then, is all.
