All I can say is may God bless Grandma Shirley for being totally forthcoming with the detectives and offering up her letters, etc. I cannot imagine the pain Caylee's murder has caused her and her sweet husband. The money being the very very least of it.

I am wholly offended, already, just imagining what the defense can and will try to dig up about them and see what they can blame on Casey's maternal genetics and or how poorly Cindy was raised (theoretically) which translates into how poorly Casey was raised
(allegedly) and therefore mitigates her crimes. If the defense should make any wild accusations and wholly unfounded implications to disparage Casey's grandparents, and the jury gets one look at the frail man humming "You are my sunshine" to the baby.....the jury is going to HATE THEM for it. We do not need to pay a jury consultant to figure this out, but what do you want to bet, they do , do it?
You can reimburse the bank, Jose , but there is no such thing as making Grandma and Grampa whole. I know it is a legal term but in the check fraud trial when they argued that Bank of America and Amy had been "Made whole", I remember gasping out loud. We don't need to understand biochemicals (Body Farm testimony)to know our common sense gut reaction to bs. I am offended, that is the nicest way I can put it. I think the jury, young or old, rich or poor, Anglo Saxon or Hispanic....... will be too.
I imagine any and everything they do to deflect Casey's complicity and premeditation being fully within her control, is going to have to be at the expense of others. Does the defense need Mr. Hornsby to write a few tips in another blog about things that are sure to backfire and alienate the jury, 101?
Cindy's banking being exposed is going to be a picnic compared to how brutal it is going to get in the penalty phase. Once I hear the guilty verdict, I am out. I don't think I could even stand to watch what happens next. Everybody thank their parents for making us walk the line! I remember my Mom marching me and my little friend right back up to the store to tell on ourselves to the manager that we had stole some penny candy. What a wise and strong woman. Everything I am I owe to her parenting. This case has made me appreciate that so very much.
The first time Casey decided to spend money on other things rather than pay her payments she promised to make to Lee, those keys should have been taken and the car parked. There was never any consequences, so she just went on year after year, more and more embolden with her stealing and taking Cindy for granted. The Casey we have in front of us was not made in a day. Neither Ms. Barett, Mort, Jerry Lyon, Mrs. Finnell, nor extra funds from the JAC are going to convince a jury that she was born this way. She learned what she lived.
It wont matter, the juror's religions either, Jewish, Catholic or Southern Baptist, all teach the same core values...Casey was acting on her own free will. So regardless of the lazy, complacent moral teachings, it was still her choice to hurt her daughter. If the jury should find that the evidence does show she covered this little innocent toddler's mouth with duct tape so that she could not scream, or breath, I don't think the defense is going to be able to explain that away to the extent that she does not get found guilty. There are kids of murderers and career criminals, drug addicts, who spend half their lives in jail that miraculously grow up to be upstanding, productive members of society, so we are back to the free will again. Lee didn't kill any children.
The defense likes to say they just need one juror to believe that the one witness who says they searched Suburban Drive and the area was dry is the one to believe. What I like to think is the jury needs just one strong leader who takes to the black board as they start fresh on deliberations, gets out the chalk and writes at the top...
FREE WILL. My money is on the jury foreperson, all day long!!!
As some of our members have told little anecdotes from their lives, with their siblings, parents, etc. we see that everyone likely knows someone who has little Casey tendencies. Perhaps that is why the case affects so many, folks think wow....if not for the grace of God, there goes my friend, or my family member who was on that path.
It is a cautionary tale, of Biblical proportions.
