If Dylan's phone stopped working or would not charge on Sunday night-he would have told his father. He would have wanted a new phone, or a loaner or something. Clearly if his father was texting him on Monday, he did not know of any problem with Dylan's phone, if he is telling the truth. Phone stopping working does not work for me.
As far as someone knowing he was coming to town to visit his Dad, why on earth would they think he might be home alone at any time, much less the very first morning, to come by and abduct him?
From personal experience if your battery is gone and you don't realize it is completely dead, you can put it on the charger and it does not hold that charge. You would not know it until the next morning when you took it off the charger and the battery was still dead. This is a valid possibility. jmo
