Exactly how long has LE known about the alleged hispanic male whose vehicle ran out of gas? In November investigators specifically wanted to talk to anyone with pictures of vehicles. I'm sure this could be normal procedure when a child goes missing. In my opinion, it comes across as if LE was looking for a specific vehicle.

November 28, 2012 -

Specifically, investigators would like to talk to anyone who was taking photos or shooting videos that show vehicles along the typical routes between Vallecito and Durango from 6 p.m. Nov. 18 to noon Nov. 19. That would include County Road 501 and Florida Road (County Road 240).

Anyone who can supply a copy of his or her photos or videos is asked to call the La Plata County dispatch center at 385-2900.

November 29, 2012 -

Anyone who took photos or shot videos that included vehicles along County Road 501 and Florida Road (County Road 240) from 6 p.m. Nov. 18 to noon Nov. 19 is asked to share a copy with investigators. The county dispatch center may be contacted at 385-2900.

What could possibly make you think they were looking for video of the alleged vehicle of the alleged hispanic male? Especially considering the time frame. The alleged hispanic male was supposedly seen on Nov 19 (morning). Videos of vehicles they were looking for were from 6 pm on Nov 18. Who was known to drive at that time?

There are 12 news articles about the hispanic male and what LE is looking for. Nov 18th and 19th is what they are looking for. Here's an example from just 1 of the 12 articles.

Anyone matching this description who was in the Vallecito area on Sunday or Monday, Nov. 18 or 19 is asked to contact La Plata Sheriff’s Office.

"If anyone feels they may have seen something unusual in Vallecito before or soon after Dylan was reported missing, we encourage them, including the man looking for rentals that day, to contact the Sheriff’s Office," said La Plata sheriff's spokesman Dan Bender.

edit to add direct quote from Bender in Durango Herald -

“La Plata County Sheriff’s Office is hoping the man might be a potential witness and not realize it,” Bender wrote in a news release. “Anyone matching this description who was in the Vallecito area on Nov. 18 or 19 is asked to contact La Plata Sheriff’s Office.”

Anyone matching this description who was in the Vallecito Lake area on Nov. 18 or 19 is asked to call the La Plata county Sheriff's Office right away.

And? How does that prove LE somehow knew about this hispanic male back then? There is a tip coming from somebody claiming that almost 3 months ago they saw a hispanic male (providing most general of descriptions). No description of a car was provided. How does the idea that LE was looking for videos of cars driving proves LE was looking for this hispanic male?

Snipped because I want to talk about footprints...

In regards to the footprints, I completely understand that there is a paved road. If the road is not well traveled a child may walk in the street (I did it as child in the neighborhood) so, yes footprints would not be on the paved road unless perhaps they were muddy footprints. There is also a shoulder that is made of dirt & rocks, where footprints would be seen. My point is that we can't discount or accept (IMO) footprints or the lack of footprints unless we know that Dylan would NEVER walk in the road.

This is my opinion also. I also was looking at one of the photos of the house and it does not appear to be set back too far from the edge of the road. Does anyone know how far DR would have to walk on the driveway/ground in order to get to the paved road? Is the driveway dirt or gravel? Does it appear possible to get from the house to the paved road without leaving a footprint on a dry day?

I didn't say anything about proving anything. :waitasec:

So the searches for the past weekend were stopped or rescheduled due
to weather ?

Well they had all that snow which looked really bad, so I don't think they could go out. They were there in the area and did the interview with Elaine, but I think they had to reschedule because of the storms. :twocents:

This shows the road to house area in the video pretty well.

I looked and it is only a 5 hour and 43 minute drive from Vallecito, CO to Colorado Springs, CO. Might just be me, but that's a completely doable drive in a day, so Mark may have been planning on driving Dylan back. Just a thought.

It's not just you... I've thought about this numerous times, particularly how it would be SO MUCH EASIER (for both parents) to drive and meet halfway or something. DR's "long day of traveling" gets mentioned a lot but I think it wasn't all that long. He probably waited in the airport more than spending time on a plane.

Gas here is 3.70 a gal!

Wow, bargain! Sadly I'm excited anymore when it gets under $4. Gas prices are the only reason I can see for Dylan flying instead of driving (w/Mom or Dad)/meeting up.

When I first heard about the footprints it struck me because I couldn't remember any case where a missing person's footprints were found in dry dirt and gravel such as that. I still haven't been able to think of any. I wish LE there would comment on it - whether they would or wouldn't expect to find footprints, and if they did or not.

I remember the talk from the family regarding the distinctive tread on Dylan's shoes. So, my normal Nikes might not make much of a footprint but the Jordans Dylan was wearing might stand out. The best guess I can make (from squinting at pictures) is that these look alot like the shoes he is wearing in the airport pic. http://www.footlocker.com/product/m...ptor=1&cm_mmc=SEM-_-Engine-_-Google-_-Plusbox

The tread is quite distinct. I think a print might have been made in the dirt around the house but that is, as always, MOOOOOOOOOOO. :moo:

This article shows shoes and some up close pics of the house where I see dirt adjacent to the road just perfect for footprint making.

my bolding.

If that's the case I wonder how long after all the police and searchers and people looking for gas stations etc tromped through and may have smudged or obliterated Dylan's footprints (if in fact he left any) that the search for Dylan's footprints took place.

Dylan was reported missing around 6pm. Elaine and Mark and Cory didn't get there until very late (6 hr drive?) when it would have been pitch black.

I don't know. Not a biggie. Given circumstances and never having heard of a missing person's footprints being found on a dry day with similar dirt, I just can't use the inability to find his footprints as indication of any at all without hearing something from LE about it.

Personally I think this report is fake or mostly fake I don't see someone maliciously lying but something's also not right.

I don't think anyone is deliberately lying. But because of time passed, I am not convinced that the date this hispanic male was seen at is accurate.
And if the tipster believed it to be important, I find it strange that the tip only came in last weekend (at least that is what was reported).

These days with the price of gas AND airlines like Southwest that ' specialize' in short, cheap local flights AND purchasing ahead of time, it might be cheaper to fly !

Tx, you're in Texas right? Remember when Southwest was sort of young and they had 29$ flights all day from dfw to houston or austin as a promo. They went like every 45 minutes all day long back and forth. That's how Southwest made their money and their name !

That flight cost me around $100, one way. Two tanks of gas would have cost about half that, back then, gas was a lot cheaper than it is now. This was about 15 years ago.
So, it wasn't that expensive to fly 250 miles, give or take. But how far did Mark have to drive to get to the airport and back? He could have been halfway to Col. Springs by that time. Just doesn't make a lot of sense to me, but then I hate flying.

Maybe he gets tired of driving?

I just checked on Expedia and a 1-way Colo Springs to Durango ticket 3 weeks advance purchase is about $200. Might have been a sale but I doubt it, travel within the state has always been more than a ticket to either coast, in my experience.

Actually when I first heard they put DR on the plane and that MR had bought the ticket right after the decision, I thought it was MR's way of either saying "See, I really do want him with me so I'll buy the ticket now" or "Paid my half of the travel cost, now you pay yours." IMO

Exactly... I don't think anyone's lying deliberately, but I do find the timing and vague description really strange. All JMO.
