My thoughts are still the same about Dylan's disappearance: abduction by SO or RSO (with Deputy Sutter being at top of my list); runaway; abduction by a stranger other than SO or RSO; injured while out exploring by himself or with a friend/acquaintance.

Going with this theory, Deputy Sutter would have a difficult time hiding Dylan while in jail. IMO.

Not saying this is necessarily the case here, since I don't know enough about the training of the teams- but it does remain a possibility that either K9's or handlers were not well equiped for the specific searches for Dylan at the time.

Oriah, you and Sarx are invaluable. Thank you so much for your insight! I do have a question though. One of the search dogs in Dylan's case hit on something and started digging and pawing at the snow. From my understanding, this is not really a good thing to do as evidence could be destroyed. Could you comment on this and whether this is something dogs should do if they alert on something. Thanks again.

I think Sutter would have to be on LE radar. They would undoubtedly be checking his movements on the day Dylan disappeared. He might not have been personally responsible for abducting Dylan. To my thinking, he could have passed Dylan off to the type of people he (JS) associates with. Dylan would have trusted him for a ride. Two things get in the way of my putting JS first on the list. One is that nagging issue of communication ending at 9:37 the night before. The other is MR's behavior.

Technically he's only been in jail for a short time, and actually he's out on bond. IMO Deputy Sutter should not be written off so quickly.

It would also be a shame to stop pointing a finger at him, if he was actually responsible. I don't think this cop arrested for child porn, changes the problems that I had with MR. His inconsistent stories, the lack of communication from Dylan, MR's resistance to retaking a poly and his own deviance and past violent outbursts, and being the last to see Dylan, and his very strange delusional statements, about be so much closer to his son than Elaine, and his rude texts to ER and Corey...all of it creates a pattern that makes me very suspicious of him. And this cop's arrest does not change those suspicious factors. JMO

I didn't say anything about not pointing the finger at MR. We have 10 fingers. So far MR has not been arrested. Nothing has come out from LE that MR is guilty. What does it hurt to look at other theories? Dylan is still missing.

As far as JS molesting a child, are there reports? No. Does that mean he hasn't? No. Has he been accused of violence? Not that I'm aware of. Has MR been accused of violence? Yes. Has MR been convicted of violence? No.

I think JS is just one name we could give to the anonymous SO that has been out there all along as a possibility.

5 1/2 months later, still the same possibilities:

Ran away and is still alive
Hidden by MR
Abducted and hidden by someone else

Ran away and was killed
Killed by MR
Killed by someone else

Unfortunately, if Dylan was killed he's either in the lake or he's somewhere else in this very big world.

I'm thinking these days that this will be a case that is solved by someone turning someone in, or even possibly confessing. This may be a situation where LE has gone as far as they can go, with finding leads and new evidence, and the evidence they have is not enough to make an arrest. And the world that they have to search is so big. So hopefully soon that person that knows something will step forward and Dylan can come home.

So I took that as no longer pointing it at MR and looking somewhere else.

I have no problem with parallel investigations. All the local RSOs need to be thoroughly investigated. Anyone that Dylan was communicating with prior to his going missing needs to be investigated. Any weird neighbors or family friends need to be looked at closely. And I am hoping that LE has done that and is still doing that. But I would be keeping one eye on MR at the same time.

The issue is, imo, that the two potential perps would have very different motives. JS's would be a sexual assault type kidnapping/murder. It would not really be specific to Dylan. It would have been an opportunity type crime. Dylan would have been in the wrong place/wrong time.

But MR's motive and emotional trigger was much more complicated and powerful. It would be the age old story/ ===family, jealousy, fear, vindictiveness, anger. And he had a much bigger window of opportunity than JS did. JMO

Regardless of how people feel about MR, it would be absolutely irresponsbile NOT to look at other theories. How many people are on the task force? Surely they aren't all focusing on MR. And if they are, well I hope like hell they have enough evidence to back that up. Dylan is missing. He needs people to look for him. Are they looking for him or are they looking for someone to blame. Find Dylan and blame later. Dylan needs to be found. Dylan should be the sole focus of this investigation.

Of course, I totally agree they'd be two different motives. The things is though it seems a lot of victims of violent crimes like this already come from a jacked up situation. That's usually why they are so vulnerable. Most victims of violent crimes are in a wrong place/wrong time situation, right? Actually, no one should be a victim of a violent crime so they'd all be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Who knows? I'd imagine lots of kids who come from broken marriages feel that guilt/pull between parents. I think it's pretty common and not necessarily a breaking point that would make a parent want to harm their child. I don't think that means a bond was broken. I can go days/weeks without speaking to my closest friend and even my sister, but that doesn't mean our bond is broken.

I think it's pretty common and not necessarily a breaking point that would make a parent want to harm their child. I don't think that means a bond was broken. I can go days/weeks without speaking to my closest friend and even my sister, but that doesn't mean our bond is broken.

But Dylan texted all the time so why wasn't he responding to Mark's texts after he moved? When Dylan arrived in Durango in November, he responded immediately to the texts he received from his mom and friends. If it didn't bother Mark and it was no big deal, why did he mention it when he was interviewed by MB?

I don't have enough knowlege to understand how this would work, but maybe someone can explain this to me. I really hate going here, but what I am saying is, how can we determine whether earthly remains are stuck in those underwater dam mechanisms when the dam is active? I would think the only way to thoroughly check that would be to "power down" the plant? I don't know how all this works. Anyone?
It's just from what I read, it sounds like they are death traps for anything that gets sucked in to them, or lodged against their mechanisms.

In MB’s interview, Mark blamed the environment Dylan was living in for why Dylan wasn’t responding to his texts and he claims Elaine was being secretive and purposefully hiding information from him (where she worked). He also didn't like the school Dylan attended in CS because they didn't allow him to participate in the football program.

BBM - I would really wonder about about a couple of things in regards to this.
1) what kind of father would NOT admit after 5 1/2 months that he lied that he spoke with his missing son in the morning? Pride is one thing, but my Gosh this is your child! If you (in general) lied about trying to wake your son up in the morning, why!? Wouldn't you (in general) just come clean about it rather than mislead the nation?
2) Wouldn't LE indicate that there is a witness? They may, they may not. But IMO, someone seeing that MR was asleep the Sunday evening and either seeing or not seeing Dylan Sunday evening is a HUGE factor. That changes the entire timeline.
3) IMO, LE is not going to compromise an entire investigation by NOT disclosing the time of disappearance if it can be narrowed down. They would IMO state clearly, something such as, "We have a witness that has come forward, this witness has verified that Mark was in the residence at 10:30 pm on Sunday evening and Dylan was not present"
Unless the implication is that "another friend" is involved in Dylan's disappearance and nobody has noticed that this person is missing along with Dylan.
I'm also certain that IF there was a call to Dylan's phone after MR went to bed, the phone records would indicate so. I know that there has been discussion on how quickly various phone companies record calls on the online version of phone records, Dylan IIRC has a verizon phone, which from my experience, shows immediate accounting of calls incoming/outgoing as well as sms incoming/outgoing. LE would have had ample time to determine any incoming/outgoing calls by now.

I do not recall saying that Dylan did NOT go back in after meeting with a friend outside later that night in my scenario. My scenario was what if he did meet a friend outside and lost the phone then and it died? At night it would be difficult to look for, so he would RETURN, go to bed, wake up the next day and then try to find it, possibly on his way to Ryan's since he missed his ride. That scenario in no way had Mark lying about speaking to Dylan that morning.
