Agree- flying is gross. However, I personally don't think she showered. I've always been perplexed about the suitcase being found at the bottom of the steps. It seems like it must be important to the pieces of this puzzle but I'm not sure how exactly.

To me it signals something happened rather quickly after she got home. (The only reason I can think the suitcase would still be at the bottom of the stairs is if she, or CW, just hadn't had a chance to bring it up yet. Hence something shortly after she got home).

A lot of people do not wear shoes in the house. Leaving the suitcase at the bottom of the stairs at 2am makes sense. Who wants to lug it upstairs. Plus I am sure she would have dirty clothes in there that needed to go into the wash which I figure would be downstairs.

"did CW dispose of any bodies during that time" BBM, snipped to avoid confusion

I have considered that possibility. It might explains the shallow grave and the evidence left behind at the oil field.

JMO MOO MOO
I think that that would come out at autopsy too, by the lividity of the bodies.

Yeah. Maybe they didn’t do the palm, and they definitely didn’t do the feet. They didn’t give him a cheek swab either, hence the requests from the DA.
They also asked that the whole process be photographed, and the photographs be attached to the finished prints and swabs. Last week they said on AB they requested photographic evidence so that there would be no question about the chain of evidence during the trial.

I think her shoes were at the front door (lots of folks take shoes off at front door - I’m not one of them but), when I get home from a trip, no matter what time of day, I always leave the luggage at the foot of the stairs. Our laundry room is on the first floor so I prefer to unload the dirty clothes from downstairs straight to laundry

Shoes at front door/suitcase at bottom of stairs doesn’t trigger anything for me. I always leave our suitcases at the foot of the stairs. Our laundry room is on the first floor and we store our luggage in the front hall closet across from the stairs. I unload the dirty clothes from the suitcases right at the foot of the stairs and on into the laundry room (usually the next day :)why carry up suitcases full of dirty laundry only to bring it all back down .... toiletry bags/shoes, etc go on a stair or two until the next time up the stairs, empty suitcases go back into the hall closet, my purse always goes into its spot in the kitchen area. It seemed normal to me. The loft area directly above is my concern,
Exactly same here. We put the shoes out when we come in and eave the suitcase close to the entry door/washing machine. I would not have showered at 2 am. Especially not when pregnant, I would have just fallen into bed after such a trip.

It would be a good explanation for that. My sticking point with this theory though is the idea that he would have had to leave decomposing bodies in his car in the summer heat at work all morning. I don't think it is a good idea to bring dead bodies to work...more driving time to get caught, caught at work, etc. But who knows?

They obviously aren’t messing around then. With this many people watching, I guess I’m not surprised.

I did not realize that CW went inside the tanks himself. I thought it was stated that the tanks were quite full of oil at the time of discovery of bodies. Would CW not have opened the latch and drop them inside? Was there a requirement for CW to enter the tank to drop the bodies?
@Bluff, I believe this was just a scenario and not actual fact.
You would think that there would be something in that suitcase that she need to shower and brush her teeth, wouldn't you?
Good catch. I agree.

I have my travel stuff . Things that are in a little case that I can grab instead of having to remember to pack them everytime. She seemed to travel a lot so I,wouldn’t ,be surprised that she had a travel pack.

Hotels provide soap and shampoo so I doubt she would be hauling that around

I agree. I think he dumped those bodies first thing, otherwise he’d risk them being discovered. Cadaver dogs would have a field day, hitting on that vehicle after the fact.

Who knows, maybe SW put her suitcase in the garage when she got home and CW took it out of the garage and put at the bottom of the stairs with him intending to deal with it later. Why I suggest SW putting the suitcase in the garage is because SW was OCD according to NUA about a clean home and so am I and when I return from travels I always put my suitcase in the garage for fear of bedbugs from hotels, airplanes etc transferring into my home. Then I wash the clothes and check the luggage when I unpack later. Could be ridiculous habit to some but maybe it was something SW did as well. As for toiletries, I think most women have duplicates and options available in the bathroom to use instead of having to unpack the moment one returns home. jmo

It’s strange. I’ve been thinking of the shoes and suitcase as kind of a symbol of the last normal thing that happened in that house.

She drops the case because maybe CW always takes it up for her or has been since she got pregnant. She kicks off her shoes and heads upstairs, business as usual. Then everything goes wrong and there is never a chance for CW to move it later.

Laundry room is on the second floor it has been reported.
Even if she didn't take her shoes off when she entered the house each time, she probably would at that time so as not to make too much noise.

IIRC, their laundry room was upstairs.
In the beginning, I thought nothing of her shoes, purse and suitcase being downstairs as that is what most of us would do. However, this is SW who has EVERYTHING in it's place according to NUA. Knowing what NUA said, I think she would have taken everything upstairs to her closet. MOO
Yes, the laundry room is upstairs, I can confirm that and waiting for moderator to allow me to post an SW instagram pic to demonstrate that.
Shoes by front door I understand.
Purse on the kitchen counter I also understand especially if the baby monitor satellite monitor was on the kitchen counter. I have seen FB videos where SW showed the baby monitor in her video while she was in their kitchen. Plus I saw some electronic docking station in the kitchen not sure what they are for. Maybe SW went in the kitchen so as not to disturb CW and be able to take a look at the girls on the monitor.
As for the cell phone found in the cushions upstairs. I think SW went to lay down on that couch and fell asleep. Her cell phone made its way behind the cushion. There are numerous cushions on that couch. Again, waiting for moderators to allow me to post a pic from SW instagram with the couch and numerous cushions but the victims are also in the photo so want to be certain before posting. Dieter is also in the pic.

That's kind of what I was thinking- just that those things all being out of place seemed "out-of-place".

As to what it signals to me, I'm not sure. I think the only thing it really points me towards is that whatever confrontation happened that night at least started before SW had gone to bed or showered. I don't personally think it means the confrontation happened downstairs. No, actually I think the murders themselves happened upstairs (cell phone, sheets, children in their beds, monitors, etc). JMO.

The State is not letting go of the possibility the girls were killed before she arrived home which is reflected in the DOD ranging across the 12th and 13th.

Her purse too, right? I’m wondering if her phone was upstairs only because he took it up there and put it between the cushions. Wonder if he used/did anything to her phone. We’d need to know more info, but yeah, maybe she never made it upstairs.
I believe reports were that only the phone located upstairs in the loft area. Handbag, keys, Rx, suitcase, shoes all located on main level.

Of all the scenarios here, I tend to agree with yours. This one doesn’t preclude her removing her toiletry bag from the suitcase, if that’s what happened.

Taking her shoes off, leaving her suitcase at the bottom of the stairs, and SW running upstairs to check on her kids and jump into bed, sounds plausible to me.

Since she was a frequent traveler for her job, she might have had two of everything and travel size items she always left in her suitcase. I wonder if she had restrictions on how much weight she could lift due to the pregnancy? She might have been able to roll it ok, but needed Chris to carry it up and just left it until morning. JMO.

Yes, I am pretty sure the floorplan I saw posted has the laundry room or closet upstairs. Ours is upstairs too. (I think ours and the Watts’ home are by the same builder, though their home is bigger than ours.) It is very nice to have.

Her suitcase would not have been all that heavy for just a weekend trip, would it have been? I know she was pregnant and probably exhausted.

Speculation Alert!

Around Noon
NUA: I can't reach Shanann. Do you know where she is?
CW: She is at a playdate with some vague friends.
NUA: Can't be. She missed her dr's appointment this morning. Her car is here in the garage.
CW: Oh, I asked her for a separation. Please just go home.
NUA: You need to come home. I'm calling the police right now.

Noon-1 pm
Hmm... Perhaps Shanann was buried in the morning, then he ran out of time before he had to go to work. He had planned to bury the babies during lunch time. Then at noon NUA called so he had to quickly drop the girls in the tanks before going home. No time to dig.

1pm
CW rushes home blowing every stop signs.

1:40 pm
Police arrives. Since this is a wellfare check, and not a 911 call, it takes a while for them to repond.

Thank you, @pocketaccent, for putting this in a timeline. IMO, he looks ridiculous again. Why did he need to blow through every stop sign? NUA called him and the police around noon. The police arrive about 1 hour 30 minutes later. NUA and the police are waiting on him to show up. I guess he thought he was back in NC on a bootleg run! (If you know NASCAR, you know that bootlegging was the start of it.)

I feel bad now. No one could ever use a luggage bag at the bottom of the stairs as a good gauge of when I was murdered. That bag could be there for a week or two. Sometimes I just unpack it where it is.
But as compulsively clean as she was...I do agree I would have guessed she took it upstairs. And since such a short trip, I would not have thought it too heavy.
