I'm a smoker, too - where I'm from they've prohibited the sale of both cigarettes and alcohol, classed as non essential items. We got less than 24 hours notice that cigarettes were to be added to non essential items and by the time I got to the shops they were sold out! Managed to get a few packets but am going to run out unless I drastically cut down!

WHAT!? That’s just wrong. Where are you from if you don’t mind me asking?

Where I live we can order booze and it’s delivered in an hour or less. Not sure about cigarettes, I’m not a smoker.

There was a nasty buy going around months back. IMO it wasn't this virus. I think there would have been clusters noted of respiratory distress. As was noted in China early in. I had a horrid pneumonia very early Jan. but it was exactly that. I am prone to it but it was the worst case I ever had. Usual antibiotic and lots of rest and good to go. Flu going around was bad with it seemed a cough that lasted forever. That would have spread it then greatly. IMO

What’s essential has pretty much been decided, for most of us. Fast food, liquor, pharmaceutical, auto repair, gas, grocers, pet/animal feed and garden centers. At least in my area.

I'm not so sure I'm on board with anyone other than ME deciding what's "essential" for ME. What's next? The government creating "essential" goodie bags for us and depositing those bags at our door? Hard pass. MOO.

Yes. She had it in both lungs. I was not sick enough to be in Hospital but I was really sick. My breathing was not compromised but it was a bit laboured. Until the antibiotic kicked in.

What’s essential has pretty much been decided, for most of us. Fast food, liquor, pharmaceutical, auto repair, gas, grocers, pet/animal feed and garden centers. At least in my area.

Pretty soon the roadside produce stands/ farmers markets will be opening up around here in South Jersey. They have been deemed essential as they sell pretty much what they grow, instead of shipping to stores. I mainly shop for fruits and veggies at the 2 near my home from April through November. Jersey farms grow everything from strawberries and asparagus (first crops out) to peaches and blueberries and tomatoes and corn (mid summer) to apples, pears and pumpkins (late summer/ early fall). Tons of other stuff as well.

It will be curious to see how they operate though. One of them has a "pick-your-own" option for cherries, blueberries, and a lot of other fruits.

but no "non essential" aisles in grocery stores have been closed. nor have "non essential" items been prohibited from being purchased in those stores. surplus? yes. but no one has dictated to us what we can or cannot purchase IN those stores.

I went to my local butcher the other day. Stood in line like a good citizen, practicing social distancing, and when I went in I bought 25 four-inch bone marrow bones. for my dog. would THAT be considered "non-essential"?

ETA: I'm still not on board with anyone dictating what I purchase in "essential" establishments. Give them an inch and they'll take a mile... MOO.
