The locals were no doubt worried about the bad effect on tourism a murder would bring so wanted it swept under the carpet quickly. This was my thought at the time
IMO

Swiping a murder under the rug instead of doing the opposite will have much worse effect. Tourists who bring in the money have to be protected against "the locals" who made their money and connections on the tourism. JMO.

I had a couple of occasions in my 20s when I thought it was a good idea to keep drinking well past being tipsy. I was NOT normally someone who partied often, or engaged in risky behavior, so no real explanation for how these things hapened. Only I know first hand that it is not that difficult to go from :Hey this is funnnn....to vomiting in some bushes, etc.

The only difference is most of us who did something similar just have a youthful memory of a friend helping us home, or stumbling home somehow and waking up feeling terrible the next day.

Thankfully I did have enough sense not to do this when traveling. I did go to all inclusive resorts a few times though, and some people basically spent their entire vacation inebriated. It is probably amazing we do not regularly hear about things going wrong at this type of resorts given all the partying and proximity to water.

The timestamps for the payments were in the afternoon, right? I thought I saw 3pm mentioned?

I'm a bit curious what the sailboat was, and if any of her friends know if she went on an excursion.

I personally never have believed she drowned

Just as a reminder on this case, two Venmo payments were made by Konanki on the afternoon before she went missing. The first transaction was made at 2:54 pm with the emoji of a sailboat in the description, while the second payment towards "Coco Bongo" - a renowned nightclub was initiated at 3:38 pm
Both the payment were sent to different users and the amount remains unknown.

Dominican Republic disappearance: Indian student missing in Dominican Republic, Sudiksha Konanki made strange payments before vanishing
Ok found it. So the afternoon before she went missing.

Sudiksha was traveling with friends, so it should be easy enough to see if anyone else in her group also had the same Venmo or credit card payments to the Coco Bongo and any sort of boat related excursion. I personally think both of these seem like legitimate vacation expenses. There is always the chance she was buying drugs, sure, but again, LE could find out who received the funds.
