The LCSO said that, upon being notified of Konanki’s disappearance on Thursday evening, the agency immediately followed up with federal and state law enforcement officials, as well as contacts in the Dominican Republic. The Embassy of India in the country has “taken the lead” on the ground, the agency said.

Loudoun County officials have also been in contact with the University of Pittsburgh, as well as Konanki’s family, amid the search, a spokesman for the college told Virginia outlet WVEC.

I thought of Natalie Holloway when I first saw this yesterday, as I thought she was on a sponsored trip. But I see that's not the case.
Wonder why the India Embassy is involved if she's American unless her family isn't from America and are diplomats.

SK and her family are Indian nationals, but permanent residents of VA since 2006. Not sure if that means they have dual citizenship or H1B1 visas or green cards?

I am thankful that they are getting help from every possible source!

I think LE needs to have mulitple, repeat, individual interviews with the friends about the events of that morning.

I'm not willing to buy that she drowned, or that she was by herself. I also think there needs to be some very serious discussion about what drugs were being used.

This case reminds me so much of Reny Jose's disappearance. Like Sudiksha, he was on a Spring Break trip with his friends but in Florida. And just like this poor girl, Reny seemed to have straight up vanished into thin air. It was speculated that he drowned while under the influence of drugs.

ETA: Oh wow. They're both of Indian descent.

I'm a little skeptical of the details being released so far. Did something go wrong with a male she was in the company of, or even the group as a whole? I'm gonna need more information directly from witnesses and verified LE investigators, in order not to be suspicious of the circumstances under which Sudhiksha disappeared.

Bbm.
Hmmm.
Locals ?
Other resort guests ?
Imo.
I don’t like anything about this story, least of all the fact that she was last seen swimming with an unspecified guy in the pre-dawn hours.

I wonder if her friends were able to provide any insight into who he is—hoping that somebody got a name or a good look at him (though, as young folks celebrating spring break, I imagine they might’ve been inebriated—I would have to be, anyway, to entertain the idea of going to the beach at 4 am, let alone ignoring any “rough surf” flags or signs* that might’ve been present and actually attempting to swim— and therefore may not have been paying close attention to people’s details, or perhaps find themselves unable to clearly recall them now).

*Since some reports out of the DR seem to indicate local authorities think she might’ve drowned in the rough water, I am imagining a big resort like this one would have posted some kind of warning on its beachfront/beach access path, but I don’t know for certain if this one did. Unless I am mistaken, we also don’t know if the group that included the missing young woman was hanging out on the resort’s beach OR on a beach outside of the resort property that was open to the public.

Young man last seen with missing student in Dominican Republic questioned by authorities as land and sea search continues

[…]

At around 5:55 a.m., surveillance cameras
captured five women and one man leaving the beach. Konanki is believed to have stayed behind with a young man, according to the police source.

Later surveillance video shows the man leaving the beach area at 9:55 a.m., the source said, with no sign of Konanki.

Authorities have interviewed the young man to determine what happened when the two were alone. The Dominican Police said it is broadening the investigation to corroborate the preliminary version offered by him.

Missing Univ. of Pittsburgh student believed to have died by drowning in Dominican Republic

[…]

At some point, most of the group went back to the hotel during the night, but one person stayed with her on the beach, according to a Dominican Republic investigative police report.

She and this person went for a swim and were caught by a big wave, the police report said.

The last time Konanki was seen on the beach on security camera footage was around 4:15 a.m. on March 6, the Dominican Republic Public Ministry told ABC News.

So what time did they go for a “swim”? He’s seen leaving the beach at 9:55 AM. No call for help?

Makes no sense as stated? Maybe I’m just too tired to understand the situation, but I thought her friends reported her missing when they discovered she never came back to the hotel. What about this dude, what did he do?

I just read through this thread.
I have the same questions you do.
They swim together at around 6 am when the others left the beach. Then about 4 hours later the guy left the beach without her? What happened in those 4 hours? If they got "caught by a big wave" at some point, did he try to rescue her or just let her go, and he just left? He didn't shout for help, he didn't run to get help?
From what I understand, the other girls reported her missing when they didn't find her in her room.
Who is this guy? A local? Another student?
Did they swim at all??

Subbarayudu Konanki ( her father). said he wants local authorities to broaden their investigation.

“They’re only looking in the water, but I want them to also investigate other possibilities including whether this is a case of kidnapping or human trafficking,” he said.

“We don’t think she would be able to survive for more than three days in the water and I think something else might’ve happened to her,” he told CNN from Punta Cana on Sunday.

Violent crime, including armed robbery, homicide, and sexual assault, is a concern throughout the Dominican Republic,” the department said in a June 2024 travel advisory.

This is so sad. If the young man she was last seen with is claiming he thinks she drowned, that is highly suspicious. I think there may be a lot he is not saying and hopefully he can be charged with a crime for walking away. My opinions only.

I can think of an infamous case just like this one. Just so horrific. I hope her family is well-supported but their lives will never be the same.

Sudiksha's Venmo information indicates a couple of payments on the 5th. One for Coco Bongo, presumably a nightclub in Punta Cana, and the second to a "New User". The payment to the new user was listed as a sailboat emoji. Both payments were made before she went missing.

Situations like this are so scary. Even if this turns out to be an accident it's not going to end well for this young man, imo. He was the last one to be with her, didn't report her missing if she went missing after the "big wave"...I have the same questions and confusion!
I wish our young people would understand how dangerous their choices may be.

I'm still trying to understand the mystery of the power outage.
How long did it last? From what day to what day? Was it only at the resort the young ladies were staying at? Or the main hotel drag?
Because it would have affected any cameras aimed at the beach.
