Have they not already searched the harbour? If they entered the river on 7 January, that is now 10 days ago.

How far down the river are they likely to be after 10 days?
Aberdeen is on the coast, so after ten days they could be well out into the North Sea by now. I'm afraid that the best hope of finding them is if they've become snagged on an underwater obstruction.

Timeline - (times are approximate)

Jan 1 - twins speak to triplet sister edit , who later reports a bad feeling or premonition after speaking to them

Jan 4 - twins speak to brother and mother, who report everything seems fine and the girls are normal

Jan 6 - 1pm Eliza leaves work to go on annual leave
2pm twins visit the bridge wearing rucksacks and return home via the shopping centre
They apparently do not leave again until:

Jan 7 - 2am (approx 12 hrs since their previous visit) now wearing different coats and with a small bag, they leave their flat and walk directly to the bridge.
Before turning onto the footpath they text the landlady , turn off the phone and vanish from sight

Later that day - Landlady enters their home and contacts police, who begin searching

Jan 8 - police issue first public appeal

I just wanted a bit of clarity in my mind about the bridge visit so I typed this up. This made me realize it's not really the day before, it's really much earlier the same day. Probably obvious to everyone else but my brain finds it hard to process time/date info unless it is linear.

Locals, can you tell from the info released by the police if their route from the bridge to the flat was a reverse journey of the route to the river in the early hours? Or did they go a different way?
Yeah, I would say they took the same route going on the information provided, although the starting point on the walking route provided by the Sun newspaper was wrong - it had them leaving a property near the top of South College Street(ish), however the sister's flat was on Charlotte Street which is slightly further away and closer to the Costa where one of the sisters worked. They passed through the Union Square shopping centre in the day-time and walked around it in the night-time. Approx. a 30 minute walk each way.

Pretty much a reverse journey. It stated they went through Union Square shopping centre, which obviously wouldn’t be open in the middle of the night. Nothing about the journey sounded odd and it was a fairly direct route back to Charlotte Street.

I agree that most things lead to self infliction at this point.

I find myself curious about the times though. They were originally there at 2:50pm and returned at 2am. Likely just to plan and times are a coincidence but there’s still a tingle.

I’m wondering if they were there more frequently. If there were any calls any of the times they left. Things like that.

Unless they found Communication from them which could still be possible
What is it that makes you curious about the times TMich6811?

The river dee is tidal so it possibly depends on the flow back and forth over time. There has also been a massive thaw in the last week that would have brought a large amount of water off the hills and downstream towards the North Sea. We had a flood warning a few days ago for that reason but it didn't come to anything. I'm definitely not an expert but it seems that it might be possible for them to be swept out to the harbour beyond.
Also, I think it's important to note that even if their bodies are still in the river or harbour, the extreme cold of the water means it will take them longer to come to the surface.

MOO

This looks to be where they were on the latest CCTV of them the afternoon before they vanished. It actually looks like they are walking back up from the bank towards the regular pavement as opposed to simply walking along the path.

In terms of being in the river or out to see, from the shape of the river it looks most likely they would wash out towards the sea, but given its a tidal river I guess it's possibly the current heading back inland could take them into the port area.
That being said, there are a few breakwater sections which look like they could potentially trap floating bodies if the currents ran more directly out to sea. I assume the authorities are keeping an eye on those.

This is all so tragic if it is that they’ve ended up in the water, they must have been in such a dark place.

I still can’t shake the feeling of it all seeming so well planned and thought out though, that if they had chosen to disappear the perfect way to do it is exactly as it’s playing out, they could’ve gone to the bridge the afternoon before to scope out where they can make their exit and where cctv is etc. I guess part of me is still hoping for this too because it would mean they’re alive somewhere. But it really does still seem so bizarre there is no trace at all of them by the river or in the river, not even the phone, the bag one was carrying, nothing. You’d think something indicating they are in the water would’ve been found by now? Equally, phone could’ve easily been thrown in the river to lead police to believe they’re in there too. Just so strange all of it and so sad

this is the Google direct walking route from charlotte street, is this similar?
They didn't quite take the most direct route (as you show). Instead, they walked towards and around one of the main shopping centre's and joined Market Street further down. I understand them doing that because the full length of Market Street is quite unpleasant to walk down; it's very industrial, noisy and dirty. The route they took is a more pleasant walk.

Yes, Torry Battery is busy with visitors and South Pier is busy with industry. If they wash up around there they will be seen. Similarly, if they are swept out the harbour and northwards they could wash up on Aberdeen beach or further north (Forvie, Balmedie, Cruden Bay, Peterhead, etc).

To me, it seems the two actions they took before going missing are complete oppsosites.

Taking the annual leave suggests they didn’t want anyone to foil their plans, or be reported as missing quickly.

But then they text the landlady at 2 am to let them know they’re ending the tenancy, which obviously prompted the landlady to report them as missing as soon as she arrived at the flat.

Seems strange. Unless they were worried they wouldn’t get paid for their contracted hours this month, so took that annual leave to ensure the funds could be passed on to the family.

MOO.

On reading the latest developments I initially thought the same, but then I thought taking leave is not as drastic as the message to the landlady. There's always the chance you won't go through with it so maybe it wasn't until they were at a point where they knew for certain that they decided to send the text.

If they had changed their minds before the text they could have just gone back to the flat to reconsider/reflect, but not have to think about going in to work.
