UK Eliza & Henrietta Huszti, sisters both 32, CCTV captures them near a river at 2am, Aberdeen, 7 Jan 2025 #2

If they have entered the water willingly I wonder how long they had been planning their exit. They may have withdrawn into themselves for some considerable time if they knew this was coming. Sometimes avoidance seems easier than putting on a mask in front of your loved ones :-(
The fact they went home and thought about it and 12 hours later still thought it was a good idea or their only option is very sad.

On a rough, unlit path that runs alongside the River Dee, a bunch of tulips still fresh in their wrapping stand out among the mangled beer cans and strewn litter.

The simple bouquet is addressed to Eliza and Henrietta Huszti, 32-year-old sisters, originally from Hungary but living in Aberdeen for about a decade, who vanished from this spot in subzero temperatures in the early hours of 7 January.

The accompanying card reads: “Never met you both but will always remember. You look gentle souls,” and is signed by two women who identify themselves as twin sisters.

I'd love to know what they did for those 5 minutes at the bridge, the day prior. Were they quietly looking out at the water, and perhaps deciding whether to jump from there or go down the path? Were they gesturing? Standing quietly and contemplating the future? Animated? Subdued? I also wonder what they did for those 12 hours in between? Home, and life as usual? Or something like a last meal? Preparing paperwork and sorting out their affairs? It's very sad all round.
My opinion and assumptions only.
Yes, I have the same thoughts. I wonder what was in their backpacks during the day and if they had gone out walking in the afternoon not knowing if they would return to their flat or continue wandering until they found an appropriate spot somewhere. It seems they did decide on a spot but decided to get rid of the backpacks

Yeah I saw this bunch of tulips yesterday.

Further police searches for missing sisters to continue in upcoming days

Further searches for the missing sisters, involving specialist resources, will continue in the upcoming days, Police Scotland has said.
The force added that this will include the harbour area in Aberdeen.

It has also emerged a text message was sent from Henrietta’s mobile phone to the sisters’ landlady at 2.12am on Tuesday January 7, from the area of Victoria Bridge, indicating they would not be returning to the flat.

That is so sad! Moments before whatever happened, happened.
So that is why they only took one phone. They only needed it to send that final message. :(

Have they not already searched the harbour? If they entered the river on 7 January, that is now 10 days ago.

How far down the river are they likely to be after 10 days?

It unfortunately seems highly likely now, given today’s updates, that the sisters have ended their lives by entering the water. I wonder whether the backpacks they wore during the previous visit earlier in the day may have been significant - weights for pockets, pills/alcohol to incapacitate themselves which they could have left there for use on their return in the early hours?

The river dee is tidal so it possibly depends on the flow back and forth over time. There has also been a massive thaw in the last week that would have brought a large amount of water off the hills and downstream towards the North Sea. We had a flood warning a few days ago for that reason but it didn't come to anything. I'm definitely not an expert but it seems that it might be possible for them to be swept out to the harbour beyond.

They have been doing so for the last few days on a boat and divers. I assume they will be bringing in specialist imaging or sonar equipment by what they have mentioned. As due to it being a live busy Harbour, for safety reasons they can’t go every where they may need to diver wise.

They could have floated straight out to sea not long after entering the water, or still be in the area, I doubt anyone is qualified to know.

I too feel that this latest information leads to a firm conclusion in a certain direction.

But I do wonder why the police have chosen to release that CCTV image, and also wonder why they are asking for witnesses to that first visit to come forwards.

JMO but if the police are sure of what has happened, then how will that information help them?

Perhaps there's something obvious I'm not thinking of.

Possibly to check if any passers-by picked up on anything that wouldn't be possible by watching CCTV. Conversations, facial expressions, crying, etc. There might be parts of their walking route that haven't been covered by CCTV but they are almost certain of the route by patching together the available sightings from various cameras. Sometimes the smallest piece of information from a member of the public can take an investigation in the right direction. They passed through a large shopping centre and there might be clues that can be picked up from inside of there (did they window shop, buy anything, speak to anyone, look scared, laugh).

I would think just to confirm what concretely happened. Without a witness (or a note if there isn’t one) there’s always still that 1% of doubt for the family, friends and workers and that doubt is harder to live with the knowing a lot of time.

I agree that most things lead to self infliction at this point.

I find myself curious about the times though. They were originally there at 2:50pm and returned at 2am. Likely just to plan and times are a coincidence but there’s still a tingle.

I’m wondering if they were there more frequently. If there were any calls any of the times they left. Things like that.

Unless they found Communication from them which could still be possible

knowing how they tied up loose ends with the landlord and their job, i feel like it would make sense for them to also have left a note to their family. i know nothing has reported about that and police didn’t immediately found something like that in the appartment. i guess i just hope for something that will give their family that bit of certainty, and something to begin understanding why :(

Just too sad for words, their perceived ending. I thought the same, there has surely got to be a note they have written to their family, especially to the 3rd triplet
I hope it surfaces.

Despite the persistence of the myth that there is almost always one, only a minority of people who complete suicide leave a note. The number varies depending on the study. This study puts it at barely over 18%.
